It hasn't been portrayed well in recent Punisher movies, kinda like how Daredevil wasn't very good in the 2003 Daredevil movie (lookin at you, Batman). Marvel TV and Netflix shows are done by Marvel Entertainment while the movies are done by Marvel Studios, if Daredevil was a movie it probably wouldn't have been as good as this and would have been toned down. Honestly I am glad they gave DD the Netflix treatmemt.

Makes me wonder if Castle's own Netflix series will feature him having an arc where he starts off as the Dixon/Grant version and slowly becomes the cold, soulless machine of the Ennis/Aaron version.

It makes sense to do that. It's a plausible and logical transformation. Most people would turn into a cold, ruthless killing machine being involved in that life, especially one who's already used to death and killing as Frank was in the military as special ops.
