In sharp contrast to Arjun’s words of lamentation, Shree Krishna smiled, displaying that the situation was not making him despair; rather he was perfectly happy with it. Such is the equanimous attitude exhibited by someone with knowledge in all situations.
With our incomplete understanding, we find faults with the situations we are in-we complain and grumble about them, wish to run away from them, and hold them responsible for our suffering in life. But the enlightened souls inform us that the world created by God is perfect in every way, and both good and bad situations come to us for a divine purpose. They are all arranged for our spiritual evolution, to push us upward in our journey toward perfection. Those who understand this secret are never disturbed in difficult circumstances, facing them with serenity and tranquility.

Calamities such as earthquake, cyclone, flood etc leave behind irrepairable loss to the survivors apart from snatching lives of many. The damage could be minimised by Him.

It is true that God could minimize the damage, He could have made a world where there is no scarcity and no calamities at all. But we know from our experience that when we get all physical comforts we lose gratitude in our hearts, peace of mind is replaced by pride and arrogance, we sacrifice our values to get what we want even if it is at the cost of others. There could be many reasons why God designed the world the way it is, but it seems that a world filled with problems makes us better humans as it gives us opportunities to develop qualities like humbleness, gratitude, inner strength, patience, tolerance, empathy, kindness, hope, love etc. And realize that there is more to life than having a comfortable life. And most importantly, we are all bound by our own karmas from previous lives and the fact is we ourselves are responsible for what we have to endure.

Controlling the thoughts in our mind can be very difficult. Shree Krishna also consoles Arjun in a later verse about this problem. But He says that with practice any difficult thing becomes easy. You can engage in a daily habit of meditation which is very helpful to calm the mind. Also when you notice that your mind is bringing you thoughts of stress, anxiety, anger etc, try to bring a positive thought at the time. You can have a thought of gratitude in those times. There is lot of power in contemplation. Keep revising the divine knowledge; that way you will remain cognizant of the negative affects of overthinking, that will help you become alert when it happens and you can strive to divert your thoughts to a positive direction. Everything takes time, but with effort, we can create new habits and get rid of bad ones. The ultimate way to control the mind is by practicing devotion to God as the mind is made up of God's material energy. The only way we can completely cross over Maya is by praying and surrendering to Him. You can begin a daily practice of allotting some time daily for spiritual practice. Hope this helps 🙏
