Fatriya Fahru Ramzi It’s a dignity and respect thing. A politician representing it’s country should always speak native language so that all citizens of his country can understand him. When speaking with politicians or reporters off camera english can be used. Aida Aman, I during 18 years watch Putin on tv in original and we in Russia have more true knoledge of him. Putin has nothing common with his "hard and severe" fantastic image that made from him western media. We also want to see Putin more hard, strong and decisive in many situations, but in fact Putin is very soft and liberal,some times its annoing, he is very liberal with oligarchs, with opposition , with Ukraine etc. And of course as a personality he is very intelligent and may be too kind for others.

He was a KGB agent… of course he can at least speak and understand English. That being said, I suppose it’s not a good look for a president to often speak a different language. President interviews and appearances are somewhat rare. Their speeches even more so. Often times, when they have to speak, it’s a speech regarding a different nation. If half the time they appeared, they spoke a foreign language then that’s an issue. An occasional foreign speech is good press. Constant use of foreign languages isn’t. Besides, I think the main concern is clarity and ease of speech. You don’t want any mistranslation when you concern yourself with important political figures as this.

It's ridiculously telling that for subtitles they used the in-the-moment translation of the translator. That's... not how true translation works. But I understand that doing otherwise would be confusing to the viewers. And yet... why not just mute the in-person translator and have a proper team do the subtitles then?

When speaking through an interpreter the normal etiquette is to always face the subject, not the interpreter, and to direct the questions in the second person to the subject (What do you think? What did you do?) and not to face interpreter and say, "ask him what he thinks..." Perhaps Oliver Stone had a specific reason for not following protocol. I wonder if Putin thought negatively of this approach (or noticed or cared).
@MrZlocktar
@MrZlocktar 2 жыл бұрын
Putin is not kind of guy to think about you negatively just because you are not following protocol. He is most pleased that this person is listen him while asking questions no one ever asked. He want western world to hear him, and he believe that Oliver Stone is the one who they will listen to. I am serious, you would be surprised how really easy it is to understand him and his motives. You can read him very well, if you just listen to him. He is my president for last 22 years. I've seen 4 of them, and i can tell the difference. I know what drives him, what pleases him, what makes him angry, and i know how he thinks. It's really easy to understand him. Because he is thinking the same way i do, the same way most Russian people do, but simply have means and power to do what we can't, but want. What happening right now was said by him 15 years ago and he repeated it every year after it. No one ever listened. Now their best course of action is to sit and watch in awe. That's all they can. Monopolar world order is over, multipolar world is coming. Russia wants to stop hegemony of US. To make world a better place without any fear that NATO or US will destroy them by sanctions. To make fair economic world based of each national currency. Right now he started global DEdollarization. Something that many people before him tried, but were bombed by NATO before they managed to do anything. What can they do to stop him now? Only to lay down and pray for his mercy. They are in deep shit. It's over.

Ya know, it's common curtesy when a translator is present, to talk directly to the interviewee and NOT the translator. I can tell Putin was rightfully miffed at Stone for continuing to speak only to the translator when he directly answered his last question. Poor manners. He does this because he understands English but struggles to speak it, this is evident when Oliver pretends to direct Putin in a movie and he asks Putin "how are you today Mr president? I love what Putin states, President Obama is a thinking person, he assesses the real situation. All our President's are. All of them. This is serious business and the world is at stake. Why can't we have open dialogue with all parties to see where there is flexibility, fairness, and greater good for all. I like Putin's forthcoming nature in this interview but only until it is tested by others views openly in front of each other can we see a larger picture. Keep the conversation going.
