We are getting tired of buying couches that wear out in a couole years! Whats a really good brand to look for that wont cost 10 grand that will last for for over ten years? I remember my parents having couches that lasted over 20 years. They even had a couple reapolstored because they still were in great shape except for the fabric. The couches we buy have cusions that sink within a year or two.

From the brands that we carry, England Furniture, Simon Li, and Micheal Nicholas Designs have great options for under 10K. You may be able to get custom orders from brands like Smith Brothers as well, although they will be a bit more pricey due to their solid wood frames and customizable features.

We bought two leather sofas in 2002. Top grain leather with special treatment. Tire rubber web instead of springs. Paid $1,100 each. Two years ago, we gave them to our daughter with 4 kids who like to wrestle and jump and everything else on the sofas. Still look like new except the leather is a little stretched where you sit. The funny thing is, I bought them at a dumb store that went out of business the next year.

@@furniturefair Monique, while I appreciate the time and effort you provided by telling us how furniture is made and their respective quality, you did not answer Daniela's question which is the same one I had. WHO makes good, better, and best furniture respectively? If, say, I'm going to get the better furniture, why not just provide a list of the manufactures who make them? This way, it saves me time and I can go about buying what I need. Aside from the above, and just as mattresses have different comfort grades, what about sofas? I see that some sofas are really plush while others look like they have no padding. Why is that? Are there grades or standards that measure plushness on sofas? If not, why not? Another question I have is this: sofas are often a real pain to carry into a house or apartment, especially if you need to go up a second or 3rd floor. I believe sofa manufactures are losing customers because they are too big to get them up the stairs. I'm one of those customers! I'd like to buy a sofa, but my apt is on the 2nd floor and the stairs are half turns and narrow. The only way to get it up would be to buy one that is designed to be partially disassembled (knock down). Do they make them that way and are they as good as a sofa that is not a knock down?

How does Bradington-Young Recliner sofas rate?
@moviemakerwannabe
@moviemakerwannabe Жыл бұрын
I appreciate the information. Something I'd like to know that don't seem to be addressed is how do you find the sofa that doesn't eat people but is still comfortable enough to sleep on if you have to provide an extra place for a guest to stay for a few days. My parents and my in laws have to very different style sofas but both eat people. While sitting and while laying on them. I don't want a sofa that eats people (meaning you are unable to rise from the sofa easily and you have this sinking feeling every time you move while sitting.) Can you give tips?
@furniturefair
@furniturefair Жыл бұрын
This is a great question! From my experience a few things come to mind. You should look for sofas that offer better support such as high density foam cushions with spring support systems underneath. Some manufacturers even build coil spring support systems directly into their cushions for added support to keep that sinking feeling away. I recommend shopping within the better and best categories for support that will hold up better for longer. Two brands at Furniture Fair that offer great supportive cushion features are England Furniture: furniturefair.net/blogs/lc/who-is-england and Smith Brothers: furniturefair.net/blogs/lc/smith-brothers-brand-overview with each having their own unique support systems and custom support options. If you are looking for space for sleeping, I would recommend a sectional with a chaise: furniturefair.net/blogs/lc/sectional-types, since some chaise pieces are the same size as a twin bed! Chaise sectionals are perfect for hosting a few relatives during the holidays. The most important thing to do is try the sofa, chaise or sectional before you but to make sure that the support level is to your liking. You don't want to be stuck with furniture that doesn't suit your needs. I hope this helps!

What’s Ashley furniture considered? I liked a durapella sectional for 5300 out the door is that a good price and good quality?
@furniturefair
@furniturefair Жыл бұрын
Hello! Ashley has a wide variety of quality levels, mainly ranging from good to better. The durapella is one of their better reclining sectionals that they make because of some of the features (usb, power recline, corner blocked frame, better quality foam, and water repellent faux leather). Another brand to check out in that price range is a company called Cheers, they go a little higher to that better and best quality levels. The price can be a little higher but some of the features and benefits are well worth the investment. we hope this helps, thank you for reaching out! furniturefair.net/search?type=products&q=cheers*

@furniturefair
@furniturefair Жыл бұрын
@@currentresident7760 We strive to be honest about the quality of every brand we carry and who it would be right for. Ashley ranks as Good on our GBB ranking system since it is a mass manufacturer with high volume of output. The level of manufacturing that Ashley does requires quick turnaround and the pricing of Ashley means that they use more cost-effective materials. Ashley is perfect for an individual or family who is starting out in a new home or apartment, and needs affordable furniture fast. Expect an Ashley sectional to last 10 to 12 years if properly cared for. While Ashley is not the highest ranking on the quality scale, for anyone looking to get good value on a starter sectional Ashley is a good option. Hope this helps!

@@furniturefair BUT, if you let your children jump on your 'good' sofa, it's probably going to break. Our 4 year old busted the seat of our 3 year old 'good' sofa, and we lived with sitting on pillows until we could replace it. That looked so bad that we didn't have company over for awhile, because the bathroom sprang a leak and we had to fix that and replace a vanity.
@ThatGuy-gc1du
@ThatGuy-gc1du Жыл бұрын
@@RebeccaMcCagueSipe Sounds like you have an energetic 4 year-old (aren't they all lol) but yes we would advise keeping jumping to a minimum. Their are brands with better suspension and more supportive foams, but they are not designed for jumping. Too much roughhousing or jumping can reduce the lifespan of your couch cushions and suspension. We are glad you got that vanity replaced and the leak fixed though!

Hello, Jermaine! to be transparent, we are not that familiar with Cozey. However, if you are looking for a modular sofa that ships in a box, it seems like a good brand to look into. Their starting price point is around $1000 for a sofa which means that it should be in that "better" range.

I bought the Abbyson Braymor reclining leather sofa. Just not sure the quality or if it’ll last long
@furniturefair

"Hey Jonathon, congrats on your new Abbyson sofa! It's a great choice. This power sofa would most likely rank as Better on our Good, Better, Best scale. It has some high quality top grain leather seats with leather matching on the seating areas for durability. The high-density foam cushions make it super comfy looking and the USB charging is a neat feature. While I cannot find the inner wood construction, I can say that it looks to be of good quality and is made of real leather which is higher-end. Great choice for sofas. We hope it lasts a long time!

I was thinking about returning it for the “room and board” metro model couch? Quite a bit more expensive, but don’t think the metro would be better quality?
@furniturefair
@furniturefair 8 ай бұрын
@@jonathonborges2914 The Metro model might be a good alternative provided you are willing to give up power reclining features, as from what I can tell the metro model doesn't have them and is stationary. That being said, it has a nice modern silhouette and features semi-analine leather, which is similar to top grain leather. My only worry is that you may not like the change in arm styles, as the square box arms of the Metro are not as cushioning as the pillow arms of the Abbyson. If you like to rest your elbow when you sit, you may wear down the box arm faster, leaving an uncomfortable divot in the arm. I wish I could learn more about the material construction but it doesn't seem to be listed on the Room and Board website. Hope this helps!

How much ballpark is a "best" couch that will last for more than ten years?
@furniturefair
@furniturefair 10 ай бұрын
With current pricing, anywhere from $1,500 and up should be made with more quality material and will last much longer if properly maintained. The materials will affect the quality significantly so look for solid woods and performance fabrics for the most durable couch build.

Most furniture in today'stores are made of cheap materials, such as rubber, plastic, and vinyl. These materials are wasteful and detrimental to the environment. Whatever happened to using different types of hardwoods, cotton, wool, silk, and other NATURAL materials for home furnishings? I understand the value of quality craftsmanship, but the prices of real furniture made with higher-quality materials is unreasonable. The high prices of better-quality furniture are the reason why most peoples' homes are so sparsely furnished. Too many furniture dealers are price gouging. Where do these furniture shops and dealers expect homeowners to get thousands and thousands of dollars for quality furniture, drapery, rugs, etc. AND for multiple rooms? It's absolutely ridiculous.

Is the room & board metro sofa a “good better or best”?
@furniturefair
@furniturefair 8 ай бұрын
We would classify it as Best quality due to its hardwood frame construction, combination foam and feather cushions (feather and down cushions are more rare in modern furniture building) and performance grade fabric upholstery or semi-analine leather upholstery options. Hardwood construction is one of the biggest factors in determining the quality level, but the other features make it a top-tier quality sofa. Hope this helps!

What are the price categories for these quality categories?
@furniturefair
@furniturefair 11 ай бұрын
Great question! Specific prices are hard to nail down since pricing changes often, however here's a fairly consistent rule. Good quality sofas usually run under $1000, Better quality sofas will usually be over $1000 and Best quality will be over $3000 especially when you get into custom-built sofas. Keep in mind these are averages and you will find outliers in each category. The most important thing to determine is if the price is worth the quality and longevity you are looking to get from your sofa. Hope this helps!
