Bob, thank you so much for your videos! With so many folks just posting watch reviews, I particularly enjoy how you balance your content with the historical and mechanical information as well. I have always been a watch appreciator, but began down the path of enthusiast in the last year (I’ll call myself a collector once my kids are out of college ☺️). Thank you for what you do, I look forward to your videos weekly!

Thank you so much for the nice comments. I do try to publish a variety of content. Looking forward to more historical videos. I know what you mean about kids and college. Hang in there and hopefully when they are done, they will be able to buy you watches :)

I remember in high school a friend got an Acutron. We all wanted to listen to the tuning fork.

Very enjoyable video on the quartz crisis. So many brands during 70s and early 80s went into liquidation. Even the mighty Rolex entered the quartz revolution with the Oysterquarz. Astonishing how many companies were acquired by Swatch:Omega,Longines,Tissot,Glashutte, etc. Heuer was revived by Tag and Porsche in 1985!

Glad you liked it. Like many industries, consolidation has been happening. Does that make it better or worse?

Some call it Quartz crisis, others call it opportunity 😅. What it definitely did is democratising watches. Even people with a small amount of free money have been able to buy an accurate watch. Take care ;)

My wife loves to buy inexpensive watches when we go on a cruise. They usually have a popup store once during the cruise where they will among other things, $20 quartz watches. Nothing great, but you can get some funky things.

Though I lived through "the crisis", I can honestly say I don't recall anything. Being in grade school at the start, and always having a watch on my wrist, (from the 5th grade on?? which would have been the mid-70's), I can honestly say I don't recall, or probably even knew at the time, whether they were quartz or mechanical. 🧐 I have vague recollections of winding a watch. Kind of wish I still had it....whatever it was. No doubt a cheap Timex.

Me too. I just remember when all of the digital watches came out. They were neat. Wish I could find the Casio Data Bank watch I had.

I would like to know about the people involved and how it affected their lives and what they did, do, instead. There are many industries that suffered the same fate in England.

It all depends upon what you're looking for in a watch.
