This will be the first video in our sequence of short videos called: Bassists of Japan.
From now on, each video will be dedicated to one or two bassists.
In this first episode, we're going to talk about a very, very talented bassist.
Let's start with a bassist who was in the first video, but most of you didn't recognize her, I'm talking about CHOPPER KOGA, the current bassist of Gacharic Spin!
A big Thank you to Dave, Dzsky and Kevin!🙌🙏

Mind-blowing talent! She has helped propel GS into such amazing creative musical realms and is pivotal to GS crafting a sound that is not just amazing fusion, but is also uniquely Gacharic Spin! ❤ I would love to see a video on Misa, or Fami or Mina or Juna Serita, next!🤞Great vid!!💯💥👍

Good choice for your first basset. Chopper has to be one of my top 3. . . . . She has a very unique style. Fun to watch and listen to.

Great video! Koga is my favourite bassist. Very often, her bassline becomes the initiation as well as the "motor" for a complete song. I think a video about Serina from Trident would also be interesting.

Hana, the other founding member of Gacharic Spin, is also technically a Bassist, though she does not play bass in Gacharic Spin. Hana is a highly skilled multi instrumentalist, playing drums/guitar/bass as well as vocals at professional levels and a handful of other instruments less well. She has been the bassit for other bands she has been in. It should also be noted that Angie, the microphone performer (vocalist), is learning bass with Koga and Hana teaching her.

Hana played keyboards on Gacharic Spin before they recruited Oreo (well both Hana and Tomo-Zo played keyboards live for GS).

KOGA is amazing, fantastic bassist and such a positive energy spirit. love everything I know about her. one of the best slap bassists out there right now. I would say go for MISA of Band-Maid Rina Hoshino (Tokyo Groove Jyoshi) , Haraguchi of (NEMOPHILA), FAMI of (LOVEBITES) and HARU from BRIDEAR to start there are so many more very talented Japanese women bass players though lol I could easily name another 6+ to checkout

I can never decide whether F-Chopper or MISA is my favourite ... fortunately I don't really have to, because both of them are out there, kicking butt and taking names.

Juna absolutely vies for a top spot in Japanese bass players. I don't catch a lot of her except I sub to poppin' (aka suzaku) on here so I do see her a few times a year. Before that she was doing lots of her own stuff with TG and she has shown that her skill on slap and pop is as good as anyone, male or female.

Hiroyuki Ogawa, not a name that will spring to mind with many people, as he is really a jazz bassist. He also plays for Unlucky Morpheus, also The Charm Park. He was the protege of Mikio Fujioka in Trick Box, and he played in Swing of the Dead, Chrovio, and Lunatic Toho.

Koga is an excellent bassist, just like her band Gacharic Spin. My recommendations are Tokie (Ajico) and Satomi Senba (Show-ya) for old school bassists, Juna Serita (The Jazz Avengers) and Rina Hoshino (Tokyo Groove Jyoshi) for jazz/funk bassists and Sawa (Aldious) and Haru (Bridear) for Rock/Metal bassists.

Next? Very surprised you didn't start with Misa. Like the concept of giving an episode to one or two bassists but would like more detailed info. My vote would go to either Juna (but that girl does so much and is so out there on the Internet you would find it hard to find new info she hasn't already given us) or Margaret Hiroi but although incredible innovative reliable info is sparse. If you're prepared to have some low view counts I'd personally like to know more about & see YU-KI from Paranoid Void but like Margaret I doubt many people know her even though she's great. If your counting mentions as votes then Asa of the Wagakki Band obviously.

A really good slap bass player, queen is probably a bit strong though. There are so many very good female bass players out of Japan, something about that place and musicians in general. Chopper is one of the very few who earned my sub for social media and I am very picky about that.
@kicorse
@kicorse 3 ай бұрын
I think it implies seniority rather than superiority. Koga released her instructional DVDs on slap-bass in 2010 and 2011. This was before the start of the professional careers of the female bassists in Venus's last video. (It's possible that Misaki Fujiwara was in a band at that time, but if so it's not one that has received much attention.) Of course there have been many fine female bassists going back to the 80s, at least, but not that are so identified with slapping, as Koga is. That said, personally I find it a bit cringey when female musicians are called "queens" or "goddesses", so I don't use that term myself.
