A theory sent in by a viewer of the channel has me really thinking. Did qui-gon see his death just before it happened?
In the phantom menace, qui-gon, maul, and obi-wan are all separated by plasma shields, as we see qui-gon meditating, while maul paces back and forth. This is a perfect example of sith vs jedi training and mentality.
The theory here is, was qui-gon calming his thoughts and replenishing his energy while he waited for the shields to go down? Or was he actually able to see into the future, and see his death? Knowing that this was the will of the force.
Qui-Gon was extremely dedicated to the will of the force, essentially saying, if that’s how it happens, then that’s how it’s meant to be, it’s fate. Whereas the jedi started to bend the force to their will, by fighting for political ideologies and becoming disillusioned with how the force was used for thousands of years, partially why Dooku left the order.
So while qui-gon was meditating, maybe he actually saw that he was going to die, and instead of changing it, he allowed it to happen. If he didn’t, he would have gone on to train the boy, and Anakin Skywalker wouldn’t have turned to the dark side. He’d have had qui-gon to discuss all of his issues, including his dreams about his mother suffering and padme dying. I believe qui-gon could have made anakin the jedi master everyone hoped he would become. But then what…Anakin would go on to lead the jedi order for the rest of his years, training many jedi and protecting the galaxy…that wasn’t balance like the force wanted. It was what the jedi wanted. It was their prophecy, not the true prophecy of the force, which in the end did bring the final end of the sith. See, I think in order for their to have been balance, wasn’t for anakin to live, but for him to die. There was darkness in him waiting to take over like a symbiote, and once the right circumstances arrived, such as padme needing to be saved, and palpatine having the answer, his darkness fully enveloped him and he became Darth Vader.
So maybe qui-gon knew that if he did indeed stall until obi-wan joined him to fight maul, that he would be acting against the will of the force entirely. Maybe he knew that Obi-Wan would fail, and it must be no other way. For if he was alive, so many things would have changed. Luke probably would have been raised at the jedi temple, assuming anakin still had kids, and Palpatine would have perhaps manipulated Luke or Leia, if he couldn’t have anakin, he’d have their children turn into Sith Lords from a younger age, which could have been even more devastating because Anakin would have died for them, maybe like Han Solo to kylo, then what.
Qui-Gon might have seen many different outcomes we’re not aware of, now this is just my mind doing its thing, but I imagine the untold story of what Qui-Gon saw during this brief meditation could be rewritten someday, and heck, that could be kinda cool. It would just add to his overall arc by making him sacrificial for the greater good. Things always have to get worse before they get better, nothing ever just starts great and ends up greater, that’s not real life, and it’s not proper storytelling.
I hope you guys enjoyed this theory, shoutout to the viewer who came up with the thought provoking question.

What do you think? Was it the will of the force telling Qui-Gon he was about to die, and MUST die?

I'm not 100% convinced Anakin HAD to join the dark side beause it means a life of suffering, pain, grieve and hate for him. And I feel like nobody deserves that and that ultimately, it's not what the force is about (I think?) 🤔 he could have just been the gray jedi in the middle, using both sides and re create a new order (kinda like Luke). But hey, kinda new to this, still learning a lot and just beginning to take an interest in lore and deeper theories 😅 so what do I know?

I’m sorry friend, but I believe this theory is contrary to Star Wars and hope you don’t really believe it. It makes no sense. Anakin wasn’t meant to turn to the Dark Side. The Jedi being obliterated and the entire Galaxy being thrown into chaos and oppression was not the will of the Force. Qui Gon had every intention to kill Maul. He was fighting for Anakin, for the Chosen One. Filloni said so himself, so having Qui Gon accept his death and just let it happen doesn’t make sense. Anakin wasn’t drawn to the Dark Side. He knew what love and what the pain of loss felt like, more so then anyone else in the Jedi. To say Anakin was just always meant to become Vader takes away from the Tragedy of Anakin Skywalker. Balance in the force is the absence of the dark side. I believe you have referenced this from Lucas own mouth, so the Dark side doesn’t “draw in” anyone. The dark side is simply force users using the force to their own whims, abusing it and turning it into something selfish. No disrespect friend. Love you and your channel. There is a lot to unpack here and hope it doesn’t come across as an attack on you.

People can crap on George Lucas for whatever their gripes are all they want, but he was a truly gifted creative mind to be able to spawn this universe in the first place, in all its complexity and splendor, beauty and tragedy, fantastical yet grounded; how deeply it impacted modern culture and became a mythology/mythos all of its own is proof of this.

Yes I was actually just about to comment that and maybe that’s what SWT was gna talk about. I wouldn’t be surprised if QGJ had a glimpse of not only his death but, OWK, as well as AS and EP, maybe even Dooku’s death would also have been glimpsed so he knew not only that he would die but that it would lead to balance possibly being restored. So that gave him not on resolve but balance as well. Sorry, SWT has been overly critical of late, as I’m one of the people enjoying Fett but getting tired of people saying things are shit just for views and because of external reasons or projecting instead of just enjoying the show for what it is rather than where it fits or the notion of “but it should be more like this..” really if you REALLY feel like that write and make it yourself and just don’t watch the stuff other people do if it’s just gna make you think “I could do it better” and I know at some point he will prob do his own iteration like he has done for other movies in the past so whatever

@@SIR1U5 I completely understand your thoughts on Book of Boba; however I'm in the camp that while I think newest episode was a little rough, I'm hopeful the remaining episodes will really show us some great story telling. I will reserve full judgment when the entire show is released and do a full watch through to understand the whole storyline in one cohesive manner. While Theory needs to make content as he is a SW channel, I believe he holds this same sentiment. He's stated multiple times that he won't write off the show until it's all out then he'll tell his full thoughts. As well I understand the need to make content but idk, i guess critics are gna critique though it would be nice if they only noted the missed opportunities or maybe missed representation and just thankful that the opportunity for that representation is there in the first place. One problem with this theory: The entire reason this mess started is because Qui-Gon doesn't believe in looking to the future, he told Obi-Wan to focus on the here and now instead of the future when they were sitting in a room waiting for the Trade Federation for supposedly routine negotiations and Obi-Wan started sensing something would go wrong, why would he ever start going against that philosophy right in the middle of a life-and-death fight where focusing on the here and now is actually a really good idea.

To be fair, sometimes the visions come unbidden. Perhaps he was meditating to regain strength, but an unbidden vision came to him from the force telling him that he must die so that the will of the force was enacted. But his whole reason for not focusing on the future is because so many Jedi, even those among the council, get lost in the search for the future that they miss the present. But he was also a really big proponent for the prophecy of the chosen one, which also somewhat contradicts the general "focus on the here and now" statement. It's not so much that he didn't like prophecy and visions, it's that he didn't like that the Jedi were lost looking to the future so much that they missed the things happening in the present.

He did say in that scene that Obiwan should "be mindful of the living force" so it is possible (although as with these theories it is difficult to prove exactly right or wrong) that whilst being in the present he could be aware of the force's direction within the near future as his death is only a minute away from the meditation.

The disconnect was on full display in that convo, and predictably the "let's humiliate this adult individual who doesn't owe us a damn thing by telling her that she can't do adult things with this other adult individual, because we say so" tactic was a complete disaster that served only to entrench the secrecy and add to the resentment, shame and bitterness stewing in Anaken. @@Count.Saruman imo the concept of the "force" is not good. The force is not a good thing that guides people into being good, the force is like nature, powerful and cold. @@manoyt007 Well, George Lucas said that the Dark Side is clearly a 'cancer' of the Force, and that Balance means the death of the Sith and the end of the Dark Side. Even then, if we are to ignore 'word of god' statements, it's interesting to debate. If what you say is true, then it lends validity to Darth Traya's argument that the Force should be destroyed. The prevalence of good is simply naturally preferable to an equal amount of good and evil. If the will of the Force wishes to keep good and evil in an eternal deadlock for its own arbitrary reasons, then it should by rights be defied. Thus, an argument is born that the Galaxy would be better off without the Force. As I'm not very fond of this possibility, I maintain that Balance does not mean good=evil. Balance means light=dark. A position of moderation and rationality while not falling to the extremes of either.

In the clone wars mortis arc, during Anakin’s test when he finally brought the light and dark side to their knees, the Daughter was the first to fall and while the Son struggled and resisted for a few seconds he to eventually had no choice but to kneel before Anakin while we hear the breathing of Darth Vader. Then there is the prophecy of the Chosen One. “Only through sacrifice of many Jedi will the Order cleanse the sin done to the nameless. The danger of the past is not past, but sleeps in an egg. When the egg cracks, it will threaten the galaxy entire. When the Force itself sickens, past and future must split and combine. A Chosen One shall come, born of no father, and through him will ultimate balance in the Force be restored.” I think things happen exactly like they needed to the light side get balanced first which could have happened by simply having the order change it’s ways to align themselves with the will of the force like Qui-Gon, or just wipe the slate clean so the new and true Jedi can return aka Luke. Then to destroy the Sith and bring ultimate balance, like the Son the dark side resisted for a time but ultimately it fell to the chosen one, as Vader destroyed the Sith by becoming Anakin once more and killing Sidious. Ignore the sequels.

When Qui-Gon meditates, I think The Will Of The Force wanted Qui-Gon to Forceghost himself like Obi-Wan did in Ep4. But Qui-Gon didn't understand why OR maybe he saw Anakin would become Vader if he does. When the shield drops,, he doesn't Forceghost, he tries to take matters into his own hands because he promised Anakin and Shmi he would look out for him and not burn in lava or become a Sith, but he fails and dies. Consequently he can't communicate as efficiently to heroes(Obi-Wan,Anakin, Jedi Counsel) like Forceghost Obi-Wan could to Luke. When Obi-Wan fights Vader in Ep4 The Force wants Obi-Wan to Forceghost, but what if Vader catches Luke/Leia and kills or turns them into Sith too? The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. And it shows, that even someone like Yoda, who probably had the best knowledge of the force, couldn't or maybe rather didn't want to bend the will of the force, even if he could. The Jedi are the stand in for the riverbank but the Sith aren’t the dark side, they’re using the dark side to assault the river bank and will flood the valley. I find it a very interesting theory, one that shows Qui-Gon's actual affinity with the force better than it can be seen in the films, since he was one of the most spiritual Jedi at the time. Still, I can't help but disagree with it. As you very correctly said, he is the kind of man that believes "if it has to be, then it has to be". People that have that philosophy and follow it by heart, don't even feel the need to see into the future, they just live in the moment and do their best, so when their time does arrive, they have no regrets even if they leave something unfinished. If anything, I think at most he would use the ability to see into the future the same way we look at the clouds in the sky to guess if it's going to rain: not an actual future reading, but just discerning potential possibilities so you don't get caught by surprise without at least a jacket. I believe that is what happened when he met Anakin, he felt his potential and, while he obviously understood that it doesn't mean that the boy would end up being good, he decided to focus on it. Simply because he felt it was the right thing to do. Who knows if that kindness and interest he showed Anakin since they met (betting on him both by letting the boy help them and on the race, wanting to bring the boy with them, and teaching him the mistaries of the Force even if the council did not agree with it) was actually the spark that Darth Vader needed to finally turn to the Light and kill the Emperor. Nobody could see Anakin's future, not even Yoda, but Qui-Gon didn't need to see it, he just did and let the Force flow as it itself intended. I do believe that scene where he "rests" in front of Darth Maul was an actual rest, to show how different both fighters were: one, a philosophical warrior, who trusts in his fighting skills and the guidance of the Force, who knows he is at his peak with a calm mind and body; the other, a caged beast always tense, on alert, ready to jump at his pray the moment a chance shows up, letting anger be both fuel and driver of his attacks. What better way to show us, the outsiders, who follows the path of enlightenment and who just wants power?

I think “Vader” always existed within Anakin, even as a young boy. As the Chosen One it would make sense that he embodies both the light and dark sides of the Force. Anakin Skywalker represents the Force in balance and Vader is the imbalance. If anybody hasn’t read it, I highly recommend reading the Revenge of the Sith novel by Matthew Stover as it talks about Anakin’s struggle against his demons and how by him crushing the dragon beneath the heel of his foot, the dragon actually seeps poison into him and corrupts him. This is also similar to what happens to Ahsoka in the Mortis arc of TCW, when the son (disguised as a helpless prisoner) bites her and infects her, causing Ahsoka to fully turn to the dark side for the rest of that episode. Even in real life I think we all have a demon/dragon inside of us that wants to break free but most of us are able to keep it caged and keep ourselves balanced, just like the Force is in its natural state.

I've always believed there was more to Qui-Gon meditating in the that scene, that he saw more then we were lead to believe. Maybe if he waited for Obi-Wan then it would've been Obi-Wan that died instead of Qui-Gon. And that would've messed up the Force's plans for the reasons you listed above. So fighting Maul by himself not only followed the will of the Force but also kept the boy he raised since he was 13 years old alive. Qui-Gon is one of my favorite characters in Star Wars. He gets overlooked often, but he was very important to the Star Wars universe.

Idk, I wonder if he did. We have seen Jedi like Cal have elaborate visions of the potential future so maybe Qui Gon knew things would go terribly wrong and Anakin is there to somehow destroy the sith. By the way, I think both the council and Qui Gon have equally valid beliefs on being in tune with the force, it's just the council was getting too focused on everyone and themselves always getting it right, and that's why they want ppl to ignore their visions (in the past, taking visions too seriously lead to the killing of many Padawans). Imo there will always be Jedi that disappoint us, but it's okay as long as most want what's right. I don't think we should expect for them to be perfect just bc they strive for perfection. All but Pon Krell and Barris Offee have good internetion.

Having to navigate through both, one bringing balance back to the dark & the other eventually bringing balance back to the light side.

What if Anakin left the Jedi Order with Ahsoka?
@danmarusan2878
@danmarusan2878 2 жыл бұрын
Palpatine would immediately try to turn him to the dark side. He would seperate Ahsoka and Anakin, killing Ahsoka and therefore any witnesses. He would blame either, Dooku or Grievous, for killing Anakin's former padawan fueling his rage and bring him closer to the Dark side. This would give Anakin one more reason for learning to prevent people from dying and would make him turn against Windu even faster. Maybe he would just block Windu's final blow against Sidious in order to fight Windu himself. He would blame Windu and the order for Ahsoka's death. Saying something like: She died because the order abandonend her. Making her an easy target in the process. First the order betrayed Ahsoka and me and now the Jedi are betraying the republic by trying to kill it's leader. Sidious would bolster Anakin with the force (no point in hiding any longer) and since Anakin at this point is no pure dark sider Vapaad's effectivenes is reduced. Which gives Anakin a good chance to beat him.

"Anakin was always pulled to the Dark Side." One reason this would be true is the fact he was created by the Sith Dark Plagueis. My theory would be Plagueis created Anakin with the intent of having him replace Sidious at a later date, but Sidious found out about the boy so killed his master then "arranged" to have the boy trained as jedi. Not by the peaceful, calm, Living Force sensitive Qui-Gon Jinn but the cocky, aggressive, edgy Obi Wan Kenobi. If Qui-Gon let himself be killed, he fell into the plan Sidious was implementing.

To add to this i think qui gon didnt know how anakin would bring balance to the galaxy just rather that he would. I think anakins story was destined for him to always be vader but qui gon didnt know the destruction he would cause first just that ultimately he would restore order which did happen. I dont think qui gon was ever destined to live to raise anakin although he maybe thought he was to be his master ultimately him knowing he would restore order was enough to recruit him but as i said wothout knowing the destruction before this was destiny and vader was always destined to rise.

Qui-Gon cleared his mind in this brief moment before that fatal fight. He knew that to let a Sith make use of his offensive capabilties meant certain defeat so he chose to push Maul aggressively (jedi-untypical) into the defense as his only chance to survive the encounter. Even if he failed, Obi Wan would use the aggressive Aturu style to the best outcome being younger than Qui-Gon.

Rather then good vs evil I've preferred to see it as order vs chaos. With total order things stagnate, with total chaos what is built is also destroyed. @@ooopsaccident9931 I would second this. I don't think the dark side is evil per se. It's just based on passion, anger and intense emotions in general. Even love, an intense emotion which is considered to be a good one, but is banned by the Jedi order. It's just that it's way too easy to succumb to the negative effects of these emotions, especially anger. But every psychologist will tell you that even anger can be turned into good when channeled properly. How many people are actually able to channel anger for good instead of turning it into rage and want to smash things, though? That's why there were Jedi who understood the dark side as well and didn't succumb to it (I think this includes most notably Windu, very likely Yoda and probably Qui-Gon, too), but they're rare.

Qui Gon was a Sith disguised as a Jedi. He saw the Sith prophecy in Anakin. Qui Gon was adamant in wanting to train Anakin even after the Jedi Council said no. Qui Gon doesn't even want to be on the Council eventhough he was qualified as no Sith would. Qui Gon immediately recognised Maul as a Sith Lord eventhough the Sith have not been around for the last thousand years. And that's exactly why Qui Gon needed to fight Maul because of the Rule of Two. He was a Sith.

I have always argued Qui-Gon to be the best Jedi. He knew how to transform into a ghost after death. Besides he was right that Anakin brought balance to the force.
