I watch a lot of your videos and follow your Insta. This is by far one of my favourites. I've made my own kumiko panel and I walk past it virtually every day and I'm reminded that one day I will make it to one of your courses, even though I live on the other side of the world. I've lost count how many times I've watched it, sometimes at the end of the day it's nice just to tune out and watch you at work. Thank you and a huge thank you to Ben.

It is shibumi. "Shibumi is a Japanese word that means 'effortless perfection'. Anything that is Shibumi is quiet in refinement, noble and fulfilling in a manner that is not shaped exclusively by analytical thought." Shibumi is also a great book by Trevanian

When I was at a open house at Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking I met you and you were doing a demonstration on this I could not believe that these joints are pressure fit no type of glue are used. I had a great day but meeting you was awesome.

Awesome video and awesome channel! One question though. What would be the best way to prepare stock for Kumiko using only hand tools?

How do you make the long thin pieces? Seems like it would be dangerous on the table saw.

Disappointed at music in a video about quiet art. I wanted to hear the sounds in his studio only.
@wolflahti4122 ай бұрын
No discussion of dimensions or angles. Very pretty but disappointing. FWIW, the jig angles used to make this asa-no-ha pattern are 22.5, 45, and 67.5°.

Sadly a CNC machine took this man's job and his wife.
@Erowens987 жыл бұрын
as had happened to so so many woodworkers in the past years. Sadly, we live in a changing world that places more value on speed and mass production than fine craftsmanship. With Cnc machines mass producing, one man can do the same job as 5 men in the same time as one. Though fully custom one off work is still faster by hand because Cnc programing does take actual time. But once you make more than 2 of something the Cnc blows hand work out of the water for speed. Quality depends on how good the programmer is though and how he selects the wood he uses, which seems to be a neglected talent in the Cnc world as actually looking at your wood kills the time gains.

Yeah cnc's cant touch the quality of a human
@ericzander12546 жыл бұрын
Sadly, staring at computer screens have taken your class and taste. If there was any to begin with. He is a legend. A CNC can't take the man's journey away. Discover something about yourself and use your hands.
