This interfaith talk was delivered on November 18, 2010 and courtesy of UCLA Muslim Union in Los Angeles California. This talk was delivered via the Muslim Community Center - East Bay (MCC East Bay) in Pleasanton, California.
Ustadh Ali Ataie is a teacher and researcher of the Islamic sciences, specializing in theology and biblical interpretation. He has been both a guest lecturer and guest instructor at several colleges and universities such as California Polytechnic State University, UC Davis , UC Berkeley, and Cal State East Bay. He holds a Masters’ Degree in Biblical Studies from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, and is working on a PhD in Islamic Biblical Hermeneutics. His comprehensive knowledge of the Jewish, Christian and Islamic traditions is matched by few. Ustadh Ali is certified in Arabic, Hebrew, and Biblical Greek, and fluent in Farsi.
The Muslim Union @ UCLA is an organization comprising of UCLA Undergraduate and Graduate Students formed to combat Islamophobia in the United States. With growing religious intolerance against Muslims and Islam, the organization hosts events at UCLA to educate others about the true message of Islam.

I used to be a hindu and then became an atheist but neither hinduism nor atheism made any sense to me. After intensive and thorough research, I found the truth in Islam and accepted it, Alhamdulillah !!

If God is not located somewhere, He is located everywhere. Granted He is beyond spatial location, Is that a sound argument?

God is beyond the heavens outside of the creation. His knowledge, hearing, and seeing is everywhere

The Quran is the speech of Allah. This idea that it is a dalalah of Allahs speech is mutazili theology. What is contained in the mushaf is Allahs speech. Our voices and the ink is created. Allah speaks, how he wants when he wants. All of this philosophy doesnt come from the quran itslef, the sunnah, or from the understanding of the early generations. These are neoplatonic ideas that are foreign to our tradition contaminating the pristine understanding of the early generations. Also Allah is above the heavens. The Prophet (S) asked the slave girl where is Allah - and she said above the heavens. And the Prophet(s) responded with "free her because she is a believer". So all this space time talk is ambiguous. It has some meanings which are correct : Allah is not like his creation. Allah cannot be contained by his creation etc. But to call the sky the qiblah of duaa only is incorrect. It is the Qiblah of Allah who answers duaa. The Prophet (s) ascended the heavens and went beyond the sidrah to be in the precense of Allah. It is correct to say that you are nearest to Allah in sujood - but this is nearest in terms of hearing and support. This is clear and unambiguous in the Arabic language. Also Allah (swt) talked to Musa (a) with an unkown modality. You cannot say he spoke to him in his heart without a language etc. This statement has absolutley zero evidince for it. Stop where the Quran stops. Other than that i enjoyed this presentation
