That color scheme alone is something else. If you think the R34 is rare today, finding one in Midnight Purple would be close to impossible. Heck, only 0.5% (less than 1%!) of all R34 GT-Rs ever sold came in that color. Whoever ends up with that unicorn of a car truly is lucky. Now we see why Doug had to do another R34 review - this particular example warrants it.

It wasn't just a 180km/h speedo, there's was also a speed limiter by Japanese law. One feature of the R35 when it came out is the JDM versions use the navigation to tell when you're on a track and disables the limiter.

Not when this car was around. The 180kph speed limit was mandated for cars then but few actually seemed to get them. I had 2 r32 GTS-t's and a supra in japan and both would sail over 200 kph with ease. Stock.

Just a little info about the different versions of the R34 GT-R 1. The “standard” GT-R: it was the base version (if you can call any version of this car basic) 2. V-Spec: The one Doug reviewed, as he said it added a rear LSD and also an improved ATTESA system, stiffer suspension, a new splitter and diffuser. 3. V-Spec N1: Homologation version, stripped out of any luxuries like radio, A/C and carpet. 4. M-Spec: the “luxury” version, similar to the V-spec with leather heated seats and a stiffer rear sway bar. 5. V-Spec II: Similar to the original V-Spec, with upgraded brakes, even stiffer suspension and a carbon fibre hood with a NACA duct 6. V-Spec II N1: Homologation version that is even more stripped out than the first N1. 7. M-Spec Nür and V-Spec II Nür: The last 1000 of the R34 GT-R’s, upgraded with larger turbos, more power, a 300 km/h speedometer and a different color for the cam cover. 8. Z-Tune: The last variant of the R34 GT-R, Nismo bought 19 used GT-R’s to build these since the production was already over and they stripped it all together, the car ended up producing 500hp with a replaced engine called the Z2, Nismo also replaced the brakes, wheels, bodywork and suspension. Only 19 Z-Tunes were ever made, including 2 prototypes

@@rdfdsv yes there are 2 midnight purple Z-Tune, though I forgot the chassis number I think there's also CRS trim and it's kinda released at 2019, though I dunno if they sell it as upgrade or sell it as full car. It was using several engine upgrade as option 500hp RB26DETT F-Sport, basically similar power as RB28DETT Z2 but I dunno if it's same 2.8 as Z-Tune or still 2.6 FYI if you're loaded then you still can buy R34 from Nissan / Nismo via Skyline Restoration Program. But the program cost 400k USD without car, so it might hit 500k if you request Nissan / Nismo to provide the car. And that's just the starting price, it will go expensive quickly if you opt upgrade such as engine (RB28DETT Z2, RB26DETT R4, RB26DETT N1, RB26DETT F-Sport R), paint (Midnight Purple, Silver Z-Tune) and others. But at least it will come with 1-year warranty Also in FAQ section, Nissan / Nismo say it's possible if owner want to upgrade trim to higher trim (such as non-Nur to Nur or higher) but they will not re-register it so there will be no another Z-Tune or CRS or Nur even if you opt for fully Z-Tune upgrade and engine. I dunno though if they can upgrade from basic trim such as GT, GT-Four or GT-T into GT-R Sometimes Nismo also selling cars that's already ready in-case you're loaded and hate to wait if there's available units, but currently only R32 at the moment, hopefull there will be R34 in near future. Interestingly if you see it at Nismo site, the model was changed into "NISMO Restored Car" instead say "BNR34 Z-Tune" and model year also changed to "2019" instead of say "2005". Probably that's why Nissan / Nismo stated that they will not re-registering

This is VINTAGE Doug. Outside (NOT in a studio), ALONE, and 20 + minutes going into the tiniest details about the car all the while conveying GENUINE interest and enthusiasm. Reviews like this are why I started watching Doug in 2016-2017, and I felt like his enthusiasm and interest in what is his bread and butter has been waning. It's nice to see that fire is still in there even though he won't starve if he stopped YT entirely.

5:25 I think It’s also important to note, there are multiple versions of midnight purple. The first midnight purple (LP2) came out on the R33 and I believe there no drastic color shift Later on, Nissan introduced Midnight purple II AND III for the R34. The car Doug is reviewing is MPM II, which shifts from purple to green tones. The more iconic midnight purple, MPM III, shifts from purple tones to blue and orange/gold tones.

On the TV mode it is basically a screen that will display anything with NTSC signal. You will need to wire in a RCA connector to connect a video input signal. Also need to solder a jumper connection. It doesn't have an inbuilt TV tuner so you cannot use it to see local TV networks, but you can install a DVD or TV tuner and have it display the signal on the MFD screen as far it is NTSC signal.

*THE GODZILLA* Skyline R32 caused shockwaves in Australia in the early 90's. It destroyed the traditional touring car heavyweights from Ford and General Motors, winning Bathurst in 1991 by a whole lap, and recording the fastest-ever time of 293km/hr down Conrod straight. In one race I saw it go around other vehicles with two wheels on the grass and still overtake. It was so dominant the other manufacturers influenced the governing body to outlaw turbos and all-wheel drive, effectively banning the GT-R from competing. That same 'Take my toys and go home' attitude among Australian car manufacturers and auto enthusiasts led to the demise of the entire Australian car industry, which became a dinosaur.

I believe what makes the car so special, aside from its presence in numerous games and movies, is the synergy between its performance and its generally simple body shape. It it doesn't look as flashy as Supra, NSX, or Eclipse. It is a sport coupe, but it looks like a Japanese full-size sedan with a shortened greenhouse. A factory-built sleeper, so to say. But that's just my opinion and that's one of the reasons I love Japanese cars of the era.

@@80s_Boombox_Collector The car looks 10 years younger than it is and it might not be as pretty as an NSX or RX-7 but if I may, I think the R34 GT-R is cool in an understated way with an aura of stoicism and pedigree that the other cars of its time didn't have. Strong, prominent body lines, functional and not over-stylized aero parts contribute to its aesthetics. @@endingtasks8538 There's good and bad. I came from a very rural town in the South, so living in a mega city like Tokyo was an adjustment. The trains are not fun. A lot of stuff is shockingly cheap here(price, not quality). Areas like Shibuya and Akihabara- the major tourist attractions- are really horrendous. overcrowded, overpriced, and lots of annoying tourists. BUT area's deep in Saitama, or even in smaller districts like Ikebukuro, have a lot of cool and interesting places. One of the best things you can do if you are here is just look at Google maps for a while, until you see someplace interesting. Even from Saitama, most of the city is accessible in around an hour, and there's just so much STUFF here, you will probably find something interesting you weren't initially looking for.

Anyone who grew up in the late 80's to mid 90's understands that the Nissan Skylines were extremely popular long before they were ever put into a film or game. They are the car all import lovers were dying to get their hands on ever since the R31 came out, and that was in the 80's. I had a poster of a moded R32 on my bedroom wall in the early 90's (I got it from Spencer Gifts at the mall). It was probably 6-7 years before Gran Turismo came out and Skylines were possibly the most popular tuner cars back then. Supras, RX-7s and others were far more common but Skylines were always well known and loved.

Right hand drive is my preferred side because I’m right handed. It splits the body into right hand controlling acceleration , braking , steering while the left side of the body handled clutch and shifting. I’ve driven plenty left hand drive, and it’s fine, but the body and mind takes more time crossing over sides. Just my feeling. But, I won’t argue. It’s like an argument over circumsised or intact.
