This is the third video about collecting DVDs I've seen in as many weeks. Looks like I was ahead of the curve I've been loading up on used DVDs for the past three to four years most of them for 5 bucks or less

I have been collecting over the last few years. But the prices are on the floor right now. Only problem is, I am going to need more space.

i really miss the days of videoshops and movie posters too. had my room covered from wall to wall in my teens in movies posters the guy who ran the video shop up the road used to let me have when he needed space to advertise the newer movies.

8:38 I love theatrical movie posters too from back in the day and many years ago, I purchased a lot of original theatrical posters via eBay (Ones that studios provided to movie theatres; not just the reproductions sold in stores for the general public) because I loved the artwork, the nostalgia factor, and I even thought about framing some or specific ones for movie nights with friends as a "Now Playing" novelty. Some of the posters I have include: - Many variations of 'Star Wars' movie posters, especially the original trilogy, and many are rolled and in perfect condition. - 'Metropolis' (1927) as reissued on a large French poster. - '2001: A Space Odyssey' (large Italian poster). - Disney's '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' (large French poster). - 'Blade Runner: The Director's Cut' - Large French posters by Jean Mascii for the five original 'Planet of the Apes' movies (Of course! Haha!) that measure 47 inches wide by 63 inches in length (Huge!). - 'The Good, The Bad & The Ugly' (large French poster by Jean Mascii). - 'The Seven Year Itch' (a German poster that is very reminiscent of an Andy Warhol design). - 'Death Wish' (large French poster). - 'Gallipoli' (large French poster). - 'Tron: Legacy' (large French poster). - 'The Watchmen' (large French poster). - Etc. I'm mainly attracted to vintage or classic posters that were drawn or painted (illustrated in some way) that have striking images and graphics, particularly if they depict a key scene or scenes from the movie. I can't stand modern Photoshop posters that are lazily designed and often just show photographed headshots of the principal actors/characters that don't excite or inspire me the way that classic posters sold movies to potential audiences. :)

I love DVDs, in my opinion if you have a CRT TV DVDs will look best on a CRT TV especially via RGB SCART and Component, I personally have Blu-Rays as my favourite home video format (I would say 4K but I don't have a 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray Player nor a 4K TV) however the jump in video quality from DVD to Blu-Ray is outstanding, I think it's also worth mentioning that the key factor to DVDs success was the PlayStation 2 which also lead to the console being the best selling console of all time due to it at the time of release being the cheapest DVD player which enticed consumers, similarly to an extent the PlayStation 3 being the cheapest Blu-Ray player at the time of release helped the format which definitely helped it beat HD DVD which the Xbox 360 used DVDs as its disc based media and had a HD DVD player add on

Here in Portugal we have some really nice collecting facebook groups for trading and selling DVDs. I got a huge part of my collection there once i started buying movies again. It's really fun specially when something rare appears, gives you a feeling of joy and nostalgia, just love it!

Collecting old DVDs is fun! I like going into thrift stores and hunting for Blu-rays, and I always look through the DVDs too. I've found Silence of the Lambs with lenticular cover art, a nice edition of Se7en designed like the killer's notebooks. On my most recent trip I found a zero-budget African romance movie that I couldn't leave behind. If it's got nice packaging or looks really bizarre or obscure, it's coming home with me. $3 to $5 is my limit for a DVD though

Sometimes you need to pay more, like $10 on Ebay if it's a title you can't find.
@TwoTailedCaperer
@TwoTailedCaperer Ай бұрын
@@kurtrussell5228 for a rarer title, I guess I wouldn't mind paying $10. At this point I'm all in on Blu-rays and 4Ks, most of the movies I want to watch are already available on better formats. There are some anime titles that I like which are out of print and only available on DVD tho

I had hundreds of VHS tapes, now I have hundreds of DVDs and Blu-Rays. I don't regard myself as a collector, though. I just buy movies and TV shows I know I'll like or if they're cheap enough and they look half decent, then I'll give them a go. I rarely pay full price for any of them. I have a typed up wish-list that I carry with me when I see there's another sale on. I don't buy many discs online, because there's the risk of them being damaged in transit. If I find out I don't like something I bought cheap, I just give it away to someone else. Some of my brand-new movies only cost Au50c. That's less than a replacement DVD case! About half the movies only cost me about Au$2 second hand.

They are dirt cheap at the moment, I stubble upon so many great ones, some still sealed. I have a list of movies I want, right now I am looking for There will be Blood, in my pursuit the stack keeps growing.

I really do not know what you are trying to say, but quality blu-ray 1080p , 4k 2160 p, i have had to buy a few on dvd cos they are not available on the other formats, but have a lot of blu-rays, some rare items too, The old title from Warner Bros, Never Ending Story is on 4k, and will look better than your old DVD.
@LikeYesterday-sv3kr

Yes, that is the best way to enjoy those movies. Some films never made it to Blue-Ray or 4K. DVD is not the best, but most great movies can be bought cheap and preserved, by collectors.

Nice vid , im a physical media collector myself, i have thousands of dvds, blurays, 4ks, vhs, laserdiscs ect and winter really ? Your lucky i love the winter, here in England its bloomin boiling, i dont like the heat, wouldnt be as bad if there was a nice cold breeze with it. But yes charity shops are a good way to pick up physical media on the cheap and sometimes they have great films in there to add to the collection

Thank you so much for you comment. Yup, Southern hemisphere, but to be honest, it is not as cold as it should be, and that is concerning. I lived in England back in 2003, 2004. That is where my collection started. I wish I could time travel back to that time and raid all the GAME stores in the early 2000s

The first DVD(s) i bought was A nightmare on Elmstreet box with the first 7 movies. I kinda want to sell my DVD collection (or most of them) because they just collecting dust but they just aren't worth anything. A few years back i threw away alot of my VHS and a few of them i regretted (wish i digitized them first).

I remember that box set. i borrowed it from a friend in the early 2000s. I have done the same, best thing is to hold what you have now, might become valuable in the future. Thank you for the comment.

Hi, thank you for joining. Mostly hit local spots, locations like charity shops still have media. But it is dwindling. DVD on marketplace, you can buy in bulk for cheap. DVDs are going mostly under the radar, but as with all things people catch on.

I'm guessing you're South African, so your tiemeline for DVD->BluRay->Streaming is about a decade off what it is in the UK. But yeah I do kinda agree that owning physical media is pretty nice. I still have a huge collection of DVDs. The only players I have left though are games consoles. Hah! Neverending Story. That's also one of the first DVDs I ever bought, probably one of the first movies I ever saw as a kid. Nostlagia. It's great to own a copy.

That is correct, probably more like 5 years behind but it is strange, not many people are into collecting media like DVDs, I been watching the market, over here VHS and DVD hasn't really caught, people don't get how cool it is.
