For the longest time, there hasn't been a pp record that made the entire fell head over heels. That doesn't mean that the pp record was not impressive, but the title felt like it lost its luster in recent times. Reworks came and went, and everything kind of felt stale. That was until mrekk set the first ever 1.3k pp play in osu history on Save Me HDDT. That was by far the craziest pp record to date and the scary part was that it could've been a 1.6k pp play if he were to FC. We all thought that wouldn't be topped for a while, but then a month later, aetrna acquired the Wooting keyboard and set a new pp record on Ascension to Heaven HDDTHR. Once again, we thought this score wouldn't be beaten, but then just 6 days later, mrekk came in once again to set the new pp record, and we're all going crazy for it. We got the mrekk vs aetrna matchup for the pp record we always wanted. The pp record changed 3 times in the past month, and with how crazy 2022 has been in the osu community, this feels like one of, if not the most crazy thing to happen this year. On the surface, this is just one thing, but if you take a closer look, both mrekk and aetrna have reached a tier that no one else is even close to reaching.

It's crazy to think that the pp record is almost double what is was in 2015, the skill ceiling has moved so high since then to the point where scores that would be considered revolutionary back then are now typical 3 or even 4 digit scores

One really important thing I think should be noted is that the reason there was such a big gap between 1.2k and 1.3k is because during that time is when massive pp reworks were implemented, causing high pp scores to be even more difficult to get. Like, FGSky's justadice play is only 996 pp now. But even with the pp reworks mrekk got the first 1.2k pp about a year and a half ago (correct me if I'm wrong) and thats still around 500 days between 1.2k and 1.3k which is still crazy.

As much as I adore and inspired by Aetrna, if he doesn't start grinding harder, hes not going to get an insane PP record anytime soon, he has the best potential of all, it's just that he doesn't take the game seriously or competitively anymore, he already said it in his Twitter that it already felt like a chores... But hey, it's Osu! No matter how little you play, you're still gonna play because **see you next time**

3 mod on 07th Expansion is 1.4k, i've saying since i started playing the game in 2021 that aetrna could break the game, Mou ii kai 1.3k pp choke was more than enough to prove that, that shit was done in 2020 wtf, he was 1 frame from stoping a 900+ days sequence of no 1.3k pp scores

@@WraFh 3 mod on rog is not possible for record, the od gets too high, he would need 97% acc and the most hes gotten is 93%. also he has stated that his aim has degraded since 2020 and mou ii kai isnt possible rn, at least till he trains aim enough.

I think the timings of the barriers being broken is situational for many cases, 900pp was broken by touchscreen so that was earlier than it should've been (although Cookiezi's fdfd made it even earlier lol, he was ahead of the curve). 1200 was broken by pre-nerf FL so that was earlier than it would've been. PP system is bandaged well but still kinda broken rn where acc and high bpm burst streams are meta and aim doesn't give PP but you still need it to not shitmiss 99% of maps. Idk if looking at pre-patch timeframes of records really means much in a system constantly abused.

Aterna has the biggest potential of the two. His playtime compared to mrekk is very low. In his Twitter Q&A, he no longer has the drive to take #1 or play competitively. He doesn’t want to be forced to play osu when he already feels like it’s a chore in the first place, according to him. If he were to find that spark again, I really think he can match up to mrekk and even surpass him. However, mrekk is playing out of his mind and has the potential to surpass Aterna in terms of speed.

ngl this two mrekk and merami made the PP system look like a joke, frankly ill be willing to bet $10 next year that a near 2000pp play would be set and i wouldn't be surprised, with all of this plays they're making, in a way i feel somewhat sad that 1000pp's do not have the same magical twinkle when you hear about it like they have a few years ago. mrekk and merami are just beyond god's at this point they're like lovecraftian horrors that you simply can't understand how and why, because you simply don't know why and how. osu is now in the age where it created monsters, monsters that are nowhere near at ending their rampage. only time will tell if more of them pop off in the future or whether this two will continue to rampage in the community with ridiculous scores and consistency that i don't even know what should be my reaction when they drop another one. in any case, i was here.

At one point you said that aetrna is holding the top in his own skillset, while I do agree he's the best speed dominant player, there are other players streaming 300+ bpm because of the wooting, it's kinda disappointing, the wooting will end up like tablets, if you don't have one then you're probably at a disadvantage

2 year to get a 1k3pp play and now we have 3 of them as soon as players start getting Wooting keyboards, but some people will still argue that Wooting compared to basic keyboards is like tablet compared to mouse lmao. This keyboard is obviously gamebreaker and is going to exclude every non-possessor out of the leaderboard.

Well yeah mrekk doesn't get pp for 1k pp scores anymore he has to keep getting higher pp scores to keep #1 in terms of pp. But also put some respect on TSM L9 DOMO[AH]'s name because he is the actual rank 2.
