My brother has Canadian citizenship and was coming to visit me here in the US by car. We are Hispanic...he was treated like a criminal and threatened to be arrested they messed with the engine of his car and when to get got back in it it did not work anymore. He had to call AAA to come to help him.. He waited for hours at the border. He is the most gentle soul, a Christian pastor... it broke my heart he was treated like that. He ended up turning around and going back home to Canada...It was a definite racial profile...

My mom and I were stopped at the border coming back to the US from Canada. CBP officers made us get out of the car and go inside the office. Searched our car while we were inside. Asked us about 20 questions as if we were taking an exam on the history of the United States. They had the nerve to ask us about past presidents and all kinds of stuff. My mom was sharp as a tack. In her sixties she named the last eight presidents! 🤣 I mean, I was even impressed. 😯 I didn't know any before Jimmy Carter! 🤣 They finally let us go. But, I was so pissed when I returned to my car and discovered that they had helped themselves to our goodies that we were bringing back over from Canada! I had a whole case of unopened water on the backseat floor and they poked a hole in it and took two bottles out. Don't they pay them enough to provide their own water? 🤨 Stole our fruits and veggies also! 😭 They are savage scoundrels! 😈 We didn't want to confront them on their theft because we didn't want to be arrested or held up any longer. We just hit the gas and headed over the border bridge. 🚗 We saw firsthand the racial profiling and entitlement. And that was in 2016! I'm not surprised that it's still going on today along with other corrupt practices. 😈 👀

They do it at this border, especially on both sides. I am putting myself on the record. They profile people, especially Black men. I live in Canada, Windsor, Ontario. I am a Canadian Citizen, but I have been treated differently on the Canadian side of the border by Canadian Immigration officers multiple times. The same with the US immigration officers. This is why I have stopped myself from crossing or travelling to the US and back to Canada to visit family members since 2011, due to the terrible experiences I have had with these people. Besides, some of them are very rude. The power cloud their judgement until they never see Black men as human beings. They asked premediated questions intended to provoke you and to invoke confrontation with them if you are not careful, especially when you are a Black man. In fact, I am not surprised of behaviors of this kind because it shows how some of these officers act in their private lives as racists and anti-immigration, especially toward Black people and Black men or people of color in particular. So, the best way for some of them to implement their agenda is for them to join law enforcement like immigration to target people of color and simply because they would get away. Besides, if you question their bosses about these kinds of attitudes, they would deny or lie. Therefore, I commend these two officers for coming out and for speaking out. And thanks to this reporter for this story.

I visited Canada to see my friends. The US Border (again, the *Americans* !) held us (my family: 4 of us) - took us *separately* into a room with bright lights, and _drilled_ us for over 1 hour. hey thought we were drug carriers, since we went over for a short time, and they tore our car apart searching. We found that out when we were finally released, the kids *traumatized* , and in -20 weather, *we* had to re-pack our car - with everything strewn all over the place. Now, what was that 'racism" you were accusing _Canada_ of???? I am Nigerian, but appear white - as my husband is. I can't *wait* to hear you justify the American Border Patrol. If you want to see *real* racism, go to Arabia, Aran, Iraq, or Afghanistan (or many African countries) - you will see huge racism there .... against whites. Also against Christianity. Oh - go across the Southern border to Mexico without a truck loaded - go ahead. (You will be shot!) If I was from the USA I'd be very annoyed as to me this is a huge waste of tax payers money, and profiling not only cause the obvious issues we are all aware of, but also poses a threat to public safety. The agents are so preoccupied with profiling they can easily miss or overlook an actual problem/threat. How do they know if I was in the USA I'm there legally, or I'm not smuggling something across the boarder or am planning on commiting a crime simply due to how I look. The fact is they're not doing their job correctly and can actually be putting the public at greater risk by allowing someones complexion determine if more attention is needed instead of the actual things and signs they should be looking for.

As a former truck driver I had the same experience with Canadian border patrol, I had a load of toilet paper that was requested to deliver to Canada. I had all the paperwork necessary, but I still had to go to immigration office to clarify where I was going. I told them the destination on the bill of lading, somehow that wasn't a good enough answer. It's as if they were trying to find something that wasn't there, I said look do you want your toilet paper or not? The Canadian immigration officer said we normally don't have people like you deliver here, at the time I didn't think anything of it, I thought it was just Canadians being anti-American but come to find out they were talkin about my skin tone and this was confirmed by the American border patrol officer, asked me why I was denied entry, I gave him the answer Canadian immigration officer told me, he said, "that is clearly racist" and that came from a pink dude and he was angry. He proceeded to tell me that I could get a waiver, that truck drivers are supposed to be exempt, but I declined not going to waste any more money. I'll never go to Canada or any other country, but my country is no saint anyways, damned-if-you-do damned-if-you-don't. I can never just be human. I will always be considered by the hyponyms that have no basis in reasoning, but only basis in racism. I don't believe in multiple races, science has proven that, clearly the society in which I assimilated wants to be racist and they stole the land from us.

If you really want to get disturbed, read the patriot act for yourself. Originally it created a 15 mile CONSTITUTION free zone that was used to authorize the CBP then Obama expanded it to its current range of 100 miles. Ask yourself what exactly the term CONSTITUTION free zone means. The DOJ under Obama administration, not the legislature, gave the CBP full authority to stop and investigate anyone within their regional boundaries. This is completely against our CONSTITUTIONs in so many ways all by itself and it gets even worse than that.

I was a U.K. immigrant with USA visa/green card… my husband at the time wanted to go for a drive, as we were stationed living in Plattsburgh NY, and he drove through the Canadian border and on our way back I was held and questioned for hours as a military wife and new mother they threatened to hold me and send my husband and child home. I was treated as criminal and told I must carry my “papers” and accused of being a spy aged 18. The gung-ho gun swinging attitude is abhorrent. I was continually made an example of at every interaction, meetings, and visa/green card updates. Jumping through hoops and had to follow many instructions verbatim and paid massive amounts to become a Permanent resident. Eventually, I was deported as non-essential and separated from my three young sons who had been kidnapped by my now estranged spouse. Also, my marriage was dissolved in divorce since my husband hadn’t filed it in the country we married 2006. All this despite my father being naturalised citizen and my grandfather was born in the USA.

I'm a Canadian citizen who was taken in for secondary questioning when I was going for a visit in Colorado through Toronto Pearson Airport. I didn't know it was going to be one of the worst experiences of my life. I was humiliated and lied to, and they asked what my ethnicity was or whether I had a different passport. I did have my Libyan passport but I do my due diligence and so I knew I was requesting entry legally. I was asked questions like "What gives you the right to enter the United States of America" "How can I believe you are not going to stay in the US?" and was told that "You need a visa to enter, every alien needs a visa to enter for any reason" "How do I know you, who is an alien, pose no threat to the United States" all unprovoked and overwhelming. They could not figure out what to pin me with after 3 hours of this, and I do not even have a speeding ticket to my name so I was beyond cooperative so that this can blow over I was thinking to myself. I was wrong. Since I visited the states in 2016, the CBP officer claimed the following "If I was that officer I would have not let you through at all, I don't even know why they did". Without giving me a reason behind the stop or the check or anything else, they claimed on record that I attempted to immigrate to the US on the citation, I did not know this until I got home and researched why by reading my OWN withdrawal of entry. I called the consulate, contacted Homeland security and the CBP and they didn't have an answer for me either. I personally would have not had much issue other than an inconvenience if they mistakenly did this, but the mistreatment, the blatant lies, asking about my background and my family, and the intimidation and belittling of any comment for further clarification based with what I suspected as mistreatment based off my skin color, religion, ethnicity and background. I could not think about this moment without feeling like I was defiled purposefully and that I will never see justice for this, and neither will hundreds like me.

Harassment by law enforcement is not unique to the USA and Canada. It is a universal problem. Some hard truths I have learnt as an adult: 1) Innocent people are more afraid of LE than criminals. 2) They have enough power with them to end your life. 3) Their ego is supported by the badge and the gun they carry. Everyone has an ego but at the end of the day LE have the power, law and equipment to exercise their ego on you. 4) Avoid them as much as possible. 5) If they ask you for an ID, just oblige and be on your way. Your family and yourself is more important than a passing LE officer who just asked for an ID.

The first thing you have to remember is there is no brown! Those people identify as white. Secondly, there is no black and brown correlation. Supposed brown people hate blacks. So this notion there’s going to be some kind of collective uprising is nonsense. Black people need to be doing everything in their power to prevent the government from allowing more Hispanics into the country. All we’re doing is allowing our political power to be diluted, our votes to become worthless, and our needs to take a back burner to people who just got here yesterday, simply because their numbers have been artificially swollen beyond ours!

In the 90's I was profiled and harassed while trying to cross into Canada. They made all kinds of snide comments and more just because I was on a Motorcycle... with my wife! They searched every bag, reached in and felt around in my dirty clothes! I had to open my jacket up, let them see everything. Coming into the US, a guy just said "where ya headed?" and sent us through.

When the cops or border patrol pull a car over, how often when the driver reaches for something in the car is it a gun? 5%? 10%? Does it happen often enough for _every_ cop to react to someone _who is already at their mercy_ reaching for their glove box by drawing a weapon on them? Or are cops the ones escalating situations by pulling a gun every time they feel even a little scared?

Try being an outsider traveling in any foreign nation and you will face the same scrutiny. People over blow some things way beyond reason. Asking questions is not saying you are guilty. It just says they have some reason to investigate further. They are tasked with being certain and if there is any doubt then investigating further is what they are supposed to do. I am not saying there are no bad apples that abuse their position and authority ever, but nothing you said has anything to do with abuse of power.

I'm a brown British Muslim that used to live in Canada and often visited the US. Almost every time I visited I would be stopped and asked a million questions while seeing white travellers pass freely. I was never stopped when re-entering Canada. Also, once I entered Norway from Sweden by bus when the UK was still part of the EU (so visa-free travel) with my mum who wears the hijab. When border patrol enter the bus they first ask for all EU passports which they quickly check before checking non-EU passports more thoroughly, however we were still asked questions and checked further while all the white people were not, including a white Australian couple. The only other people that were checked were the only other non-white passengers on the bus.

It’s mostly blacks putting themselves on the line for freedom because it’s mostly blacks these racist policies affect. Let’s be honest, America doesn’t stop Latinos from entering the country. In fact, they freely allow it. Who they are not gonna allow in however is a bunch of Haitians. Secondly, most of the Latinos being stopped are illegal, so why would they complain about being stopped by the police? They fully expect it. They are probably pleasantly surprised it doesn’t happen more often. Blacks on the other hand for the most part are citizens, so of course it’s highly offensive to us that we’re being stopped. So naturally we are the ones going to be fighting to have this corrected, because essentially the only legal people it’s harming are us!

Until these tyrants are held responsible, nothing will change. They have the power to do almost anything they want without repercussion. Just like the agent that got the info back that the man on the bus was legal and clear, but he kept lying to the man and probably doing his best to intimidate him as well. If any single sort of discipline had been implemented on that agent, we would already know about it. And it that exact reason these tyrants continue to do what they do.
