ABOUT ME
I’m 31 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 breeding ewes.
I shore over 15,000 sheep this season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September. (Covid messed it up this year)
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on KZfaq and decided I could have a go and now here we are!

This is the most accurate depiction of farming that I’ve ever seen. Lots of running after livestock in the rain…ALWAYS IN THE RAIN.

One thing about sheep you've always got a handhold if you get near enough..

Archie, you need to get yourself a couple of good ponies(mm, forgot how tall you are.. )..or horses! A couple of nicely broken(to ride, not just *pull wagons*) Clydesdales would work well (given your height), but you might need to either get some emergency ladders(the kind that roll up and you throw out your window when needed, reverse when finished) or...a portable stepladder to hook on the saddle...and learn how to be a cowboy with lasso...and, given you're working with sheep, not cattle, maybe a strong (fish?)net as well; lasso them from farther away, grab them with the net when you're close enough to examine them. Or climb down the mountain...and back up again when you're done checking your sheep...😁🤣🤣💗🤗🤗

We are mixed farmers in Central West NSW, Australia running Merino/Merino - we love watching how it’s done in Scotland - watching you get dragged around by a teaser my son asked ‘why doesn’t he get them to the yards and draft them off??’ I had to explain that the mob sizes over there are vastly different to the mob sizes here - ours are a minimum 400 per mob. We put the rams in 2 weeks ago - will pull them out in 4 weeks time, then scanning in Feb & we’ll be drafting every mob! Love your work Cam!!

Thank you for explaining why the teaser ram can't breed the ewes. I wondered if they were castrated males ( which would down their testosterone ), but vasectomized makes so much more sense!

Now when a true Scot complains about the rain and windy weather, you just know how bad it is outside. Lol. I thought I spotted some of your new rams in those shots, good luck with them. Great video, Cammy. What a rodeo! Sure could use some of that rain here in Los Angeles County. It’s been very dry the last couple of years. Little Jock is adorable. Enjoy these early years with him, they grow up so fast. My first born (daughter) will be 60 in January.

Your video and audio for that is perfectly fine. Days like that happen even where I am you're going to have wind. You're going to have rain and that's just the reality of it and you've got one tough job to do catching all those sheep. Whether it's a video with good audio and good video or one that's got rain in it or whatever. I like watching your sheep videos. Keep it up. They're very interesting.
