Gadafi in Libya ordered a bunch of RR and insisted on 7:50R16 Michelin XS sand tires (equivalent to 235/85R16 which are ~32" in diameter) ! The rear fenders had to be adjusted (similar to the "CT-cut" of later years) to fit without a lift! Maybe this one needs a little trim too - without the unnecessary 2" lift!

If it’s rot free it would make a nice original restoration and put it back to a factory finish Mike! My mates been storing his 86 classic in my workshop for years which is in ok condition but unfortunately 15 years ago he had it painted in Tangier’s Orange which was all the rage! I did my brothers series 3 in the same colour and now looking at it I regret it because it’s so bloody bright!!

Britannica Restorations Ltd well if the rest of the car is as rot free as the door slams and rear arches it should be a brilliant vehicle to start with, I’m sure somebody must have rubbers out there! I always liked the 300tdi classic, much better than the 2.4 VM engine but really a Range Rover isn’t a Range Rover without the mighty V8.. When I did my apprenticeship a gentleman had a really early one and my boss said looking at the chassis number you should preserve it as best you can, it will be worth a fortune in years to come... so what did he do, turn it into a mudplugger and destroyed it!

I want this classic, but practical I was just looking at a D1 I have in a yard and I may consider putting that dash and heating system in the RR like they did with the soft dash - kill 2 birds with one stone! Better looks and better heating - A/C!

@@BritannicaRestorations Please don't change the dash - the original RR classic dash is a beautiful piece of 70s industrial design. The later soft dash, whilst providing airbags, which is good, spoiled the driving position and robbed the cabin of some of that amazing airiness and the clean view over the bonnet.

Hi Mike, I also went thru restoring an RRC. The engine was totally shot so I had no choice but to replace it. And I went with a 300tdi. Gasoline is much more expensive here in the Philippines than diesel. The interior was terrible so I had to change everything. I did this project around 4 years ago. I'll try to find some photos and email them to you.

Hello from a sunny, hot Bushmills with cloudless skies :) Am also restoring a RR Classic Mike. Dark red four door, grey teddy bear interior, soft dash,V8. LPG fitted, thank gawd. Car is going to bodyshop as soon as I can find new rubbers. Rarer than an honest politician! If I find a source, I'll pass on the details. I think we're going to end up salvaging the rubbers where we can and filling in with a kind of plastic putty, then trimming in situ, to get the right look. It's what the last owner did about a decade ago. Good luck and will be glued to this series of vids ;) Michael / Bushmills

Oh Yeh. On the subject of making the Rangy a 300tdi. I have a 300tdi hi cap that I'm restoring. While the 300tdi is just about okay in a Defender, I reckon acceleration would be glacial in a Rangy. Would she not be better keeping the V8 and putting in LPG for economy. The acceleration of the V8 is incredible. Took me by surprise, first month or so of driving it. If a future owner has a problem with LPG , it can be removed easily enough. Put the tanks underneath or upright opposite the spare wheel and you keep the load area. This is what I'm doing. You end up with what looks like a spare wheel on each side in the rear load space. It's an additional cost, but ought to pay for itself quickly. Plus, environmentally friendly!! ;)

Yes the 300 In a RR is a bit under powered and noisy LPG is almost the same price as petrol - maybe 20cents cheaper where I Iive - only the government vehicles convert as it is daft buggers like us who pay who pay for the conversion!

The 235 tires are perfect for the RRCs. Gives it a bit of lift without causing any kind of drive line issues, makes it just a bit tougher looking, a bit better for off road with the right tread, but still very classic looking.

Mike. I have a 1995 soft dash classic with 300TDI auto. Body and chassis rotten, ABS shot. Its a customers vehicle but not an economical repair and they want out of it. Good engine, box, doors and leather seats. If the shipping isn't a killer and you want any bits I'm about to start to break it. Jim.

The beauty of these cars is in the originality. As there are fewer and fewer of these beauties left in original condition, any car that is close to original should be preserved and restored. There are plenty of chop-shop machines out there that can be transformed into whatever mutation a customers wants, which are too far gone to be economically restored. This one however you can see straight away that with just a little bit work, can be brought back to the timeless classic that these cars are. IMHO this should be brought back to original. If the customer wants a 300tdi, then why didn’t she just buy a 300tdi?

I fitted the old teddy bear seats out of my RRC into my wife's D1when I fitted leather seats, The rears fit straight in and the fronts need a plate bolted to the seat base and the sliders bolt to that, make sure the plate is strong enough, You can see where they cut cost on the Disco when you compare things like seats. @@BritannicaRestorations

Gonna need a genuine 2 inch body lift off the chassis to get those tyres to articulate without grinding into the inner wheel arch at the rear. People always opt for the 2 inch suspension lift in the mistaken belief it will offer clearance for the big tyres. 1 Decent bump and you lose a wing! New std springs work very well with genuine suspension rubbers.

God Mike !!!!! How I wish that I could find a motor like this Range Rover. What a beautiful vehicle. Mine was only a two door but , other than not being a four door like this is it was perfect for me. I like that you have the option of the pepper-pot wheels that are in the back of this motor, is there a full set? if there is I would fit them rather than the ones that are on it now. I like the v8s, they sound right and are in keeping with a range rover, they are and sound powerful which is what that motor is. Like you I hate that TEDDY BEAR BROWN interia, but I could put up with it. As for the colour, WELL!!! it is only a tin of paint away,I hated that light brown that was popular in the 90s, we used to call it, BARKUM ROOT BROWN, or as you would say- dog defecation brown. You are one lucky fella to have the chance to play with this car, I might come over and join you for a day or two. Best wishes from Yorkshire Rob..
