They can spawn in regular rooms. I've got it too. Their chance to spawn is rarer than Glitch or Halt or even gold and diamonds! And same with skeleton key.

Glitch doesn't even have a probability to spawn. He appears when a room doesn't load or you get too far away from the group.

When I was playing with my friend he got a crucifix in door 0 while opening a drawer or a wall but I saw this crucifix in his hand suddenly and you can always get a crucifix by going into a room with 2 beds and 1 clock hope this helped
