Hi! I was a custodial CM a few years ago and was trained in water art. I loved it! I wanted to give some more info about water art in addition to that in the video. 1. We can sign up for a water art class (optional!) and are trained in drawing Mickey and Minnie. For the other characters, you must learn (on your own I believe) and be certified in the character before drawing them. I often practiced offstage and loved making the other non-custodial cast members smile when they saw the art, as well :) 2. For me, though this may differ between areas, we didn't have water art "shifts." When we had free time in our day, we could do art. Some concrete and pathways worked differently than others, and I had favorite spots that I went to more often. Though yes, it is true that you'll see it more often in less-busy and less-trafficked areas simply because there is more room and the CM might have more time themselves to do water art. And the art lasted much longer on the ground on humid, cooler days than dry, sunny ones! Other than that, it was random, in my experience :) 3. Water art was by far the most rewarding part of my job and made it so much fun. If you ever see a custodial CM doing water art, please stop by and take pictures, say hello, and say thank you! A simple "thank you" or happy face means so much to us CMs. There's nothing CMs love more than seeing guests happy and giving them a magical moment!

I love when CMs share info like that. The water art is so cool. I think I was as impressed as my kids were when we saw a CM do it on our last trip (and I knew about it in advance!) 😊

last time I was at Disney we saw a custodial CM doing a water art picture of Pluto... just as he finished, this little toddler scurried up with the biggest smile on his face and tapped his little hand on Pluto's nose, said "Boop" and scurried off. CUTEST THING EVER!

We experienced something really cool with a cast member back in 2011. We were at Downtown Disney, and suddenly my 8 yr old son felt nauseous and vomited on the sidewalk😖. A cast member saw it happen, immediately came over to clean up the mess with a big smile on his face. Then he sat my sick 8 yr old and his 6 yr old sister down on a bench. He pulled out two park maps and a roll of Mickey stickers and proceeded to make an origami pirate hat for my son and princess crown for my daughter. It was so cool and my now teenagers have never forgotten. It is actually one of the moments they remember most and talk about most from Disney. We still have those hats made out of maps and Mickey stickers to this day!!

Gigi H. It shows just how important it is to Disney that they hire people who can get down to a child’s level. My husband and I were blown away. Who ever would have thought that our most memorable moment from two trips to DisneyWorld, a Disney Cruise, and several Disney On Ice shows, would have come an encounter with an employee hired to sweep the sidewalk😊

Also, when I was at Hong Kong Disneyland, we saw a group if custodians suddenly stop cleaning the street and launch into a dancing and drumming performance using of their bins and their brooms. And when they were done, they just resumed sweeping the floor as if none of it had actually happened. I was there with my friend’s parents and it was such a memorable day.

I was given a pinocchio pass when space mountain broke down on the final day (final hour) of my trip. Basically we were all tired, and waited for a good 10 to 15 minutes for the ride to reopen. Two cast members approached and I asked what the chances were that space mountain (we had fast passes for it too!) would reopen before the park shut down. They tried to find out. They saw that we were staying upbeat and didn't give them a sob story. They asked a few questions about a return trip and I explained that this was the last day on our trip, we hope to return but no idea when, and we were very pleased with everything we experienced. After deliberating they approached again, gave me the pass. I said they didn't have to and we were fine, and they insisted that because we were genuinely "pure of heart" we deserved a little magic.

I don’t know how rare it is, but the first time I took my 3 young children to Disney we took a boat ride from Wilderness Lodge to Magic Kingdom. It must have been a slow time of the day because we were the only family on board. My husband and I had the nicest conversation with the captain of the boat. He even chatted with our kids. When we were leaving the boat, the captain handed me a “You should work at Disney” business card. It was so sweet!

We were in Magic Kingdom (1st time visit) and my daughter’s nose started bleeding and it got all over her dress, one of the cast members pointed us to the first aid office and there a very nice cast member helped me clean my daughter up. He saw how her dress was ruined and gave us a voucher for a free dress she can pick out on Main Street. I love the service we get in Disney! Our next trip is in August but I’m so nervous how it’s going to go since all my dinning reservations just got cancelled. Hope to see more news on it. What about being a grand Marshall? My family was waiting in line to get in crystal palace and a cast member walked up to us and told us that he was looking for a larger family (I’m a family of 5) to be the grand Marshall in the parade. Of course we said yes and it was sooooo cool to be part of the parade

My favorite was the paint brushes on Tom Sawyer Island. I believe they’ve done away with this in recent years, but they used to hide paint brushes on Tom Sawyer Island and if you found one and turned it in to a cast member, you would get a FASTPass for any ride in the park.

My favorite rare sighting is catching the elephants playing in the water on the safari... they only do it when it’s raining pretty good so when bad weather comes I put on my rain boots and head to AK! They are closer to you than usual when they are in the water and you have to see it to realize how joyful they are spraying each other, it’s worth all the trouble to see that! My favorite time for the lions btw is twilight, you can still see the other animals but the lady lions can get very vocal with each other as it gets darker and they start waking up.

Last year my son got sick during our trip, we were in the hospital for 5 days😪. Before returning home we went to Guest Relations in Disney Springs and explained to the cast member our situation. Because we were at the hospital we couldn't use 2 day Park hopper Tickets, she extended those tickects so we can use them anytime in the next 5 years and also, she gave us a ticket to any Park that day. That was at 4pm so she also gave us 3 Fast Passes. 💜💜💜💜💜

Not sure if it’s a “win” but we’ve experienced all of these. Stuck at Saratoga Springs during a hurricane which wasn’t as bad as I thought. Disney has special activities for us at the hotel after it passed over. Stuck on Pirates. That was an adventure. We got to her the same music over and over for 90 minutes before they shut it off. Another hour for them to come out in waders to get us off the ride. We still laugh about that now. We’ve gotten the golden tickets twice. Three you didn’t list, my son got to start the fireworks show at Epcot, We got to be the special family of the day at Magic Kingdom and my son was the honorary mayor (we got to ride at the front of the afternoon parade, and last was honorary train conductor at Magic Kingdom. My son got to ride in the back and make the station announcement. Oh something you can’t do anymore, ride in the front of of the monorail with the engineer.

Went for the 1st time (family trip) in Sept 2012 and they had CM have this street show probably almost for 30mins outside 50s prime time cafe where they CM were garbage collectors and it took them the whole 30mins while interacting with guests to figure out the right way to pick up a piece of trash. By far the coolest tging we saw there as we just stumbled along it and they rode away in this grey open back truck with sirens. Adorable

We got a golden ticket! We were in the play area for the Dumbo ride in MK. My husband and I had lost track of time since our almost 3 yo daughter had gone potty (parent fail). We were discussing this when we heard a whoosh and a big wail - she had an accident on the play equipment. My husband went to help the cast member clean up and I went to the cast member at the pager desk to find the quickest way out to the nearest restroom. The cast member asked if we had an extra change of clothes, which we did, but we left our stroller way up at the carousel (parent fail again). I didn’t even know what the cast member was doing until she handed me a yellow paper made out to “Princess Evelyn” and told us to take it over to the Big Top store and pick out a new outfit. I was stunned! Totally unexpected and it made an otherwise negative experience into a magical experience that we tell over and over again.

I know a lot of people don't like Disney or get upset with them at times, but they really do have THE BEST customer service. And the best employees. Friendly, helpful, and able to make people's day. Nothing like seeing the magic of an MK cast member give a sincere bow to a little girl dressed as Cinderella and saying, "Good evening, your highness, and how was our day at the Magic Kingdom?" Her eyes lit up and mine got misty. I love seeing people go out of their way to bring smiles and happiness to others. I miss being there so much...

I have seen the water art, and Space Mountain with the lights on. But one of my favorite cast interactions was receiving a Pinocchio pass for our daughter. She was 3 yo, and the storm at the beginning of the Tiki Room (under old new managements show with Iago) scared her so much we had to leave and she was crying her eyes out. A cast member saw her crying while we were walking away, and he gave her a pass for a free popcorn. That made things all better for her. :)

I must go too often. I have experienced all of these things. Plus a tornado. Backstage of frozen ever after was funny because there was just a little table and umbrella for cast members. Best ride to get a breakdown has to be spaceship earth. Worst is splash mountain after the drop final show scenes. It can give you a chill

Thanks AJ - this is a great video, as always! My family always enjoys these rare occurrences, even the ones that others may not enjoy. One time we were stuck 4 flights up on Exhibition Everest. We had to climb over seats to get to a spot on the track with a landing to evacuate the ride. Then walked down the 4 flights inside the mountain with the lights on. Amazing to see inside the mountain.

Being at the right place at the right time is what makes these moments magical. Not sure I would call it rare but I remember when I was there a couple years ago and just happen to be where all the Star Wars characters come out for a parade or show right at the moment they were coming out... it was epic!! Side note: This is the earliest I've been in one of your vids.

I was on a trip with my school and a woman came in upset someone stole her purse... her two kids were thirsty... I had just bought some water for me and my group I gave the woman my bottles of water for her and her kids while security was on their way... the woman that sold me the water pulled me aside and said "you really helped one of our treasured guests" She then gave me a bunch of coupons and freebees and I then bought more water... I didn't think giving a couple of bottles of water to upset kids was a huge deal.

Are you sure she said 'treasured guests'? That's usually code for someone that is... becoming a big problem to the park or staff. You get called this when you're a jerk, essentially.

I LOVE going on the Peoplemover when Space Mountain is "temporarily closed"! We once rushed off the railroad to do just that, and we've also done it a few times "accidentally" as well! We also got to see a castmember draw Jack Skellington in water right outside of Pixar Pier one summer, as well as a few Mickey and Friends characters in Tomorrowland. There was also a pile of pink flowers fallen from nearby trees that had been pushed around to make an outline of Mickey ^_^

I was at Disney during the first hurricane closing in '99. We were staying at the Coronado Springs. We were told to fill our bathtubs with water and to go out and but nonperishable food items. (Since this was an all adult visit, this meant a visit to the local liquor store.) Disney relocated guests staying at the All Star resorts to sleep in the convention center at Coronado and closed everything but the food court. It meant waiting hours for food and lots of very crowded spaces and unhappy guests. Our request for ticket refunds and room discounts were denied by some very overtired/stressed staff members. Not one of my better Disney experiences but I hope they have learned from that first experience. Luckily, the storm passed by the parks and we were all safe throughout.

Hi DFB, I actually experienced the Custodial Water Painting in the Magic Kingdom during the night instead of the day. The custodian made an awesome image of Mikey Mouse. I remember it like it was yesterday...I was about nine years old and I was too afraid to go on the Haunted Mansion and the custodian saw me with my family and painted the image. This is a memory that will sure last a lifetime.

My husband and I got a Pinocchio or golden ticket as you called it on our first trip in 2018. I didn't know they were that rare. We weren't even upset they just randomly brought it out to us because our appetizer went to the table next to us. We told her we didn't need it but she insisted and we made wonderful use of it! I did make sure to get a photo as I thought it might be special 😉

Back in 2014, my grandparents and I went to Disneyland in California. And while waiting to watch the show world of color a custodial cm started doing water art of Daffy Duck. We were a little surprised because the area was a little packed but it was so amazing to watch him draw it. One of my favorite memories at Disneyland in California.

I got a Pinocchio Pass for being, well, scatterbrained. It was July and I was really hot so I went on It's A Small World and took off my Magic band because it was getting sweaty. I relaxed for the few minutes of air-conditioned entertainment...and forgot to get my magic band. I didn't realize it until nearly an hour later when it was time for my Space Mountain Fast Pass. A CM looked up my records and gave me a Pinocchio pass to get a grey one from the gift shop at the end of Space Mountain. I was VERY happy...and quite a bit humbled since it really was my fault. Not only was she able to get me the voucher for the magic band, but she did it quickly enough that I was able to purchase it with the voucher, register it to my Disney Experience and use it with 2 minute to spare for my Fast Pass! Disney CMs really do go above and beyond!

My experience didn't happen at Disney World, but in a regular Disney Store (in the UK). I was after a particular mug in store, and when the store ran out, and online didn't have it, the cast member who dealt with the problem gave me a card that meant I qualified for free delivery for an alternative item on the website. Thinking back, it seemed like a nice gesture when it happened, but now it could well be something rare.

In 2007 we took our 2 daughters to WDW. Our youngest (six years old at the time) was excited to ride Expedition Everest. When we got to the ride and measured her, she wasn't tall enough to go on the ride. We moved away from the entrance and tried to comfort her by suggesting other rides we could do instead.. A cast member wandered over and asked her why she was sad. She told him and he asked her if she liked ice cream. Of course she said yes. The cast member said Mickey would like you and your family to have some ice cream then handed her 4 coupons to get Mickey ice creams. Everest was forgotten. It was so sweet and something we all remember.

We were there last year during Hurricane Dorian. We were a little scared at first, but we meet a family that had to Evacuate their home and they came to Disney because it was so safe. In fact we meet a whole bunch of families that was seeking shelter at Disney. It was actually a wonderful trip. We stayed at Coronado springs , they had movies in the Convention center. Plus lots of games and activities for the kids. When the weather got bad they had boxed meals at a discounted price for you to take back to your room so you didn’t have to come out in the storm. They also had a few characters out for meet and greets.

Not sure how rare it is, although I’ve seen it about as frequently as the water art, but we love looking for the “Clap Box” around Disney World. Every once in a blue moon, we’ll come across a group of cast members standing around a square of masking tape on the ground. If you step into the square, they all cheer and clap until you step out. It’s really cute and fun, and we’ve seen it in various locations. At Christmastime, we even saw one made to look like a present!

As a former cast member who worked at Wilderness Lodge, Boardwalk, and Epcot I have seen many of the situations you described. What guests do not see is the preparations WDW puts in place for natural disasters, park closing, etc. Each resort has multiple supply trailers ready to roll when necessary, precut plywood to cover large windows in the lobby areas, blankets, weather gear, and other necessities. Also most of the resorts have a dedicated generator on site. As an employee I took part in what Disney called "Storm-watch" and the organization, and efficiency were amazing. I was and always will be proud to have been a small part of "THE SHOW".

Back in 2012 I visited Disney World with my family and we got ‘family of the day’ at Epcot on my mum’s birthday! Didn’t know how lucky I was that we got a Pinocchio pass as part of it, and were told that we could use it on whatever ride we wanted, though a I think a cast member told us that test track and soarin were the best! So many happy memories from that day, going on test track 3 times, celebrating at teppan edo, looking behind the scenes at mission space and viewing the fireworks in our own little roped off area!! One of the reasons why Epcot is my favourite park to this day!

We rode out hurricane Irma at the Contemporary Resort (8th floor). It was great fun and a memorable trip to say the least. We ate ourselves silly. It was the first part of our week-long stay and the rest of our family was arriving Monday (the hurricane was Sat.). We were supposed to move to the tree houses at Sara Springs, but they had to be closed after the hurricane, so we were allowed to stay in a 3BR grand villa the whole week. Truly a magical vacation!

Fun Fact: if it rains before a nighttime show that you have a fast pass for. you’ll get a free fast pass to ANYTHING the next day, obviously this happens for any ride evacuated but sometimes you can’t get certain rides such as Mine Train if you get evacuated. One time It rained really badly before my Rivers of Light fast pass (to the point where the water got up to my ankles) and I went to Epcot the next day and used it for Soarin :)

My granddaughter and I have experienced two of these...the rainy day parade and a backstage evacuation of a ride. We were on my favorite ride, Tower of Terror but were going nowhere. The doors were opened and we were escorted down some steps and back through a huge area with lots of props around. That was fun! And my granddaughter and her boyfriend had to climb down the steps inside Space Mountain after being stuck for an hour. At 70 plus years old, I’m glad I didn’t get to experience that! So many great memories during our many, many trips there together. 😘
