I remember when the song “safety dance” came out in the 80s. At no point did I ever think, “you know, I bet one day a beautiful horse will dance to this song in the Tokyo Olympics.” Life is weird.

@@nightmyst855 Though yea its concerning, some horses do fall behind the vertical. And look at the reins, not tensed and as loose as shortened reins can get. It has room to move its head, you can even see throughout the performance that it adjusts its own head more forwards every now and then. Also most riders lean more back to brace themselves and hold the chin back better when hyperflexing. Plus the neck curvature between the neck and chin, not where the mane is- below, has a U shape instead of a closed V. I also dont see excessive drooling.. It is a hella nice performance but not perfect for sure. If you see any more signs I may have missed that proves me wrong pls reply!! Id like to learn. I am no expert afterall

Dressage does have ties to ballet! Some of the names for the different movements come from ballet terms. When the horse circles in place it is called a pirouette (In this performance the horse does both canter pirouette and piaffe pirouette). When two horses perform together it is a pas de deux.

As amateur rider it is amazing to watch. But I looked specifically about the movements of the riders legs and hands and at certain moments he had one of his legs move behind or one of his hands move behind (as opposed to his hands or legs being parallels). They were minor but precise directions to the horse and very clear and rhythmical overall. It is very talented riding with very talented and well trained horse. And the horse truly seems enjoying dancing to this tune.

@@SorbusAucubaria The horse I got to dance with did not need any leg or rein movements, he just did it once the music started playing. LOL If you ever can get a chance to do this, I highly recommend you do it. Especially if you have a fear of horses. It let's you feel that their different movements does not mean you are in danger. And yes, if not hurt while training, I believe that they do enjoy it as much as people do when dancing. I also believe it helps in a panic situation as I was riding and these teens came flying up the backside of the horse honking. Luckily for us all he just when all four feet off the ground and I didn't panic as I had felt something similar in the dance. I reamed them out so bad about the danger of death to them, me and my horse had he of reared and spun as his front hooves would have went straight through their windshield and there would be kicking as he fell over on the hood. They did not find it funny after that. Which brings me to another thing I found. If a horse gets to really know you they can tell what kind of rider you are. This horse I found out later was known for being difficult, bucking and rearing as the owner thought I was more experienced than I was, panicked and sent people to stop me. When I said he did not rear or buck but went straight up, they couldn't believe me. LOL I used to bring him treats from my garden all the time. : )

Because it's sickening and cruel to watch. how you like to sit in the stands and watch a horse getting kicked in the gut every three seconds with a pair of spurs? What else could those spurs on the rider be for? If you have a thick piece of metal in your mouth along with a snaffle bit and two sets of reins to have your head yanked up un the most unnatural position...most folks are sickened by this dressage garbage. It's cruel. Punishing equipment is the only thing forcing these horses to do this. Get rid of the spurs on the rider...that thick piece of metal and those two sets of reins and you will see a much different performance when the horses aren't being punished throughout the routine. People should see how they train these horses to do this. Its cruelty at it's worst. These dressage trainers don't want people to see their cruel training methods. How else do you get a horse to trot in place if pain and cruelty are not involved. AND, what are the spurs for anyway? What are the two sets of reins and two nasty bits in their mouths for AND why doesn't the horse have it's ears up.. The animal is supposed to be enjoying all of this...am I wrong???

One of the better rides I've seen nowedays. THE COLLECTION! At least I see a horse that IS collected. I'm glad. Very much. There is a little stiffness in movements, the horse loses rhythm and impulse in pirouettes, but is moving in a circle and not in something like a figure eight that I see in almost every ride... The curb rein should be loose more time than not, but all in all - a most welcome pleasure to watch after soo many poor quality rides ;)
@DrakonEmpire
@DrakonEmpire Жыл бұрын
The reins are not supposed to be loose in dressage, it’s actually riskier for the horse’s safety if it is loose as it would be a snap on it’s mouth to change gaits. Better to keep constant connection. :)
@genthespacewitch

@@DrakonEmpire They were talking about the curb rein, not the snaffle rein, which I agree with. The snaffle rein has constant connection because it's direct contact, but the curb rein gives leverage which should be used sparingly and only on a strong and experience horse. It should NOT have constant contact.

As far as we've been able to work out, the ability to sense and synchronize with a rhythm is very rare in the animal kingdom, and horses aren't in the very small group of animals that can do it. Obviously a horse can still hear music and many horses love it, but probably the beat doesn't stand out to the horse the way it does the rider. Training and the rider's guidance is what keeps the horse matched to the rhythm.

And the riders posture and performance is perfection personified! It is absolutely astounding to watch, over and over again. I was always worried the horse might accidentally hit that stupid little fence and have points deducted even after I watched it many times!😂 Plus the horses tail was beautiful too! And don't forget the rider TRAINED the horse to be in step and perform to each song and rhythm! Horse and rider were ONE on this performance! They deserved to win the GOLD!

How do you know the horse enjoys it? 🤔 Is this performance simply that? The result of months and years of work where the horse is trained (using pressure/pain and release) to look as though he's enjoying it? If given a choice, do you think he'd choose to work hard every day to make big bucks for humans? 🤔 I love horses but hate the equine industry as it's the horses who always lose out in one way or another.

What I love about this is you can see that the horse is collecting and extending his gait, not going faster or slower. The leg fall to the music beat remains the same. Explaining extention and collection can be tough as most people think it has to do with speed alone. This gives a great visual!
