Almost a year ago, I decided to upgrade the original stereo in the MK6 Golf R.
A year on, I have learnt there are different versions of RCD330 / RCD360 out there.
In this video, I go through the differences between the standard RNS510 and 2 versions of the RCD330 / RCD360.

Very welcome! But if you have a Golf 7, your upgrade options are very different. The 330 units are mainly designed to be used for Golf 5 & 6.

Nice video man :) I just picked up an mk5 2010 polo yesterday and looking to upgrade the stereo too. So was the second one you tried the eBay option? Also, is it possible to connect a rear camera with these? Alsssssso, you don't need any extras right? It basically fits in where the old one would? Thanks :)

Thanks very much! I would recommend getting an adapter, just to ensure they connect correctly and not cause battery drain issues. I think it’s called a “canbus gateway simulator” Some units do support reverse cameras It’s best to check out the resources on RCD330.com, just to ensure you have everything you need to go. But to be fair, I think some eBay sellers sell the whole package as a bundle.

Nice video. Question - Do either of those two models support CarPlay over bluetooth, or do you still have to plug phone in via USB for Maps / Music to work? Thanks

Good question, neither of which support CarPlay over Bluetooth. UNLESS, you were to purchase a supporting USB Bluetooth CarPlay device. Like the CarLinKit which you can find from AliExpress.

Hi thanks for sharing. May I know where do you find the additional USB connection to the unit? I don't want to connect my phone thru the font panel of the player and instead would prefer to connect the phone from below like yours

I purchased the unit from this website: www.rcd330.com/shop/ Which comes as a bundle with the USB connection, as the unit is modified to support the additional USB port.

Do you know the sort of adapter I’d need for the cable with the yellow end? i bought the rcd330 off ebay and it works great but my ac doesnt work now because I dont’t have an adapter to this cable

Is it similar to the yellow connector I shown in the video for the RCD330+ Desay unit? Or is it a different shape? The one shown in the video is for an additional USB port, which should have been bundled with your unit. Maybe check out online forums like RCD330.com, maybe there is a bit more info on your specific unit on there?

The right side selection turning button has stopped working with the latest Android Auto. Very annoying when you want to select something when driving. Any ideas of how to get the button working again?

I’ll test my one with Android Auto later, maybe also worth seeing if your RCD unit has an update available too (if you haven’t done that already). May need to download a newer firmware version to address the problem you have.

Great question and honestly not sure. I never explored this option on a MK4 before, and not sure if the harness/cables are the same? 🤷‍♂️ Would most likely need additional adaptors/simulators to stop any battery drain issues too. Might be worth exploring rcd330.com to see if anyone has done the upgrade on a mk4

I can do a video on it, if you would kindly donate one to me! 😂😂😂 Only kidding. From what I understand after messing around with the 330 and the 360, the research I’ve done. The 360 apparently is an aftermarket copy of the VW 330. So quality is not quite the same, but honestly the difference is not huge. The benefit with the 360, is that you do get features you would NOT get on the 330. But are they as reliable as the 330? 🤷‍♂️

Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for popping by! 👍 I don’t feel like there is a difference in sound quality, maybe cause the speakers are still the same and the upgraded unit is basically a VW unit too.

To be fair.. my ears are terrible. Not as sensitive as some people I know, distinguishing between mid tones, treble levels, etc etc 🤣🤣🤣

Does this unit work with the US mk5 gti? Mine is a 2006 gti US spec and I’m worried it won’t work due to the canbus not being updated, do you think the canbus adapter that is sold alongside the unit will work? I would appreciate if someone got back to me asap, thanks!

I have a golf mk5 with color 3D cluster from Tiguan that it’s working well with my steering wheel from a Tiguan to everything works all buttons. BUT the track name from radio doesn’t show in audio on the MFD when I listing Spotify with the wireless then audio are gone, don’t show anything, I want a radio who can show me the track number and when someone call me,

Good question, this unit does not have KZfaq support. I understand there are ways to get it to run via Android auto. Definitely NOT via CarPlay as far as I understand.

You may need to find an antenna adapter, worth checking on forums like rcd330.com Maybe people on there would have a better idea

@@WhatThePun any also the Bluetooth option doesn’t come up on the screen. When it was on the mk6 it said Bluetooth

@@arifali-xy6dx think maybe the rcd 510 uses an external Bluetooth module. You’ll need to hook that up additionally to the MK5, if it did not already have a Bluetooth module.

What car do you plan to install this on? I quite like the one from RCD330, mainly cause it was bundled with the extra usb port. Which just keeps the unit looking more clean, without cables coming out from the front. It does also have the optional wireless carplay usb device too on their website. Which you can also find cheaper on eBay 🤣

Glad you enjoyed the video! 😊 Good question, I don’t believe wireless charging solutions were designed to carry data. If you’re looking for a way to have similar units to rcd330 connect wirelessly. Then this device might work for you. www.rcd330.com/product/wireless-carplay-adapter/

Good question, which I honestly could not answer you. As mine did not have that option, I could of tried an aftermarket option. But that wouldn’t answer your question either. I would suggest using the rcd330 forums, there’s plenty of resources on there and you will likely find your the answer you are looking for there. 👍
