A generation before Tyra and Naomi, there were Iman, Beverly Johnson, and Mounia in the '70s and '80s. In 1978, Mounia walked the Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture show, becoming the first Black model to appear on the esteemed couture runways. Before becoming a legendary actress, Cicely Tyson was a well-known model in '50s and '60s. Also, in the '60s, there was Andy Warhol's "Superstar" model Donyale Luna who was the first African-American woman to appear on the cover of the British edition of Vogue in 1966. Let's not forget the first Naomi, Naomi Sims that is, who started modeling in the '60s and was one of the first to sign with Wilhelmina Models. Sims was the first African-American model to appear on the covers of Ladies' Home Journal (1968) and Life (1969).

OMG I loved your critique. So often I see reaction videos that are pointless, just some bozo making us watch them watch tv, but not you dear sir- you are an integral part of your video. And I noticed recently in your interview videos too, sure sometimes the content at first can make me do think like "what kind of click-bate is this?" ,but I get it and I judge myself for being so judgy (always working on that), but hey this is freaking KZfaq and you know what sells and it's not like it's something that I don't talk about so its role in branding and marketing, well, that's just a stick I gotta pull out of my own ass and has nothing to do with you or the quality of your work because let me tell you, your interviews are G-O-O-D, really good. Your empathy shines through, so you engage the audience and your guest while keeping your natural intellectual flare. You are your niche, my friend. Your style of empathy has this quality of an anthropologist with just the right touch of mintiness. My grandmother was French and you remind me so much of her, but be careful, people misjudge the French. You are so smart and are becoming so much wiser in your late youth; I just love it-the way you were able to see what you called Tyra's "subtle mean girl energy", that was good. I feel like one day I'm gonna hear you on 'This American Life' on NPR.

Forgiveness is very important on both sides. Being young black women in modeling in the 90s it was divide and conquer. Tyra banks have Naomi a run for her money in popularity in the early 90s. Although there was Beverly Peele, Veronica Webb and Karen Alexander. Tyra got more media coverage so prolly Naomi got envious and catty but that’s in every industry. I made it to the top of my industry but I dealt with ppl being mean and catty. It’s the nature of the business. You just stay humble. Stand up for yourself and be ambitious.

I will always be team Tyra on this specifically. Ppl can say a lot about ANTM, but the instances in the interview were before all of that. When you really listen to what’s being said you can tell Tyra is telling the truth and completely plausible. Thing with people in positions of power they often don’t realize the affects it inflicts on others. So I believe Naomi to a degree thought it was old and not that deep, cause she wasn’t the one receiving it. They were both young, it’s sad the industry tried to make Naomi feel like she had to resort to that in order to keep her spot, especially when they’re both different and there were countless white women without the same comparisons. I think Tyra was just trying to make sense of something that happened in literally in her childhood.
