@@dwightphillips7578 very much so. The guy talking here says Goldberg was a big deal in WCW. Everyone walked to the restroom when it was time for Goldberg's match. Everyone would watch the mid-card matches (Jericho Guerro) take a break during the Goldberg match, then back for the NWO fireworks.

@@dmurphy1578 I think it was more a status issue. While Jericho had more in-ring talent and better mic skills than just about everyone, he was one of the many kept down by the older generation at that time. Status wise Jericho, as great as he was, was a tv champion aka 3rd tier, he was at the time in the same status as guys like Dean Malenko, Chavo, La Parka, Regal but was a fan favorite due to in-ring work and promo ability. Goldberg was up there status wise with the main eventers, the world champions, the 1st tier guys like Hogan, Flair, Nash, Sting, DDP. His rise was too fast for him to look at himself like the guy who should be doing favors to guys like Jericho then. He didn't want to work with him at the time when he could be headlining PPV's with Sting, DDP, Steiner, Hogan, Savage, Nash, The Giant, Hall, taking out entire factions in handicap matches etc. Was he wrong for it? Hell yes! But like it was mentioned in the video, there were lots of people in Goldbergs ear at the time saying he shouldn't be working with Jericho, which was most likely the same guys keeping guys like Jericho down. They not only wanted to be the guys working with Goldberg, but also the longer Jericho got the rub working angles with Goldberg, the more likely guys like Hogan and Nash would have to be working with him and sharing their spot with him as well. That would have actually been great for WCW, but those guys wanted to keep their own circle to draw money for themselves and keep main eventing.

@ Rocket Andretti Goldberg deserved it though. I don’t think Chris picked fights with anybody. Chris wanted to work with Bill. Bill didn’t want to work with Chris. Bill straight up disrespected him, there was clearly words exchanged between Bill and Chris backstage before the fight. Goldberg got paid regardless, therefore he should have been able to work with Chris regardless. I think Goldberg felt threatened by Chris, because Chris was so much better in the ring than he was. Chris was cut out for the business, Goldberg wasn’t.

This was so well done and not in small part due to Jericho's accounts. I think I will pick up his books. It can't be overstated how Chris Jericho is likely THE greatest wrestler of all time IMO. He has been able to reinvent himself over and over, maintain being interesting, integrate his various talents into wrestling for a better experience (ie: his music), and perform at a high level. I will argue that some of his best OVERALL work is in AEW and he brought me back to wrestling after bailing at around 2008. I remember the antics of Jericho and he was a troll before troll culture became an artform and not something necessarily reviled. Not to mention, he didn't get buried by the WWF. And if anyone wants to see what Jericho was just a couple years into his career, watch the pop for Jericho's debut in WWF. We all knew he was possibly going over, but we didn't know when. Goldberg doesn't talk much about it, because he doesn't want to talk "comedy" wrestling. (Nowadays it's more tragi-comedy, but that's another topic...) But with Nash being around for BOTH scenarios... has he gone into depth about it on any of his shoots? @Charles Vane I honestly don't think Bill really wanted to hurt him hence he went to the hair. He could've kill Jericho if he badly wanted too lol he broked Steiner's orbital bone with a simple accidental punch and the infamous Bret Hart kick and he studied early Mma back then. it's just great news that the two are long time friends now

I have long respected Jericho quite a lot. This only raises my esteem for him. What a lost opportunity from Bischoff. This could have been a fantastic way to conclude the feud.

Yet Jericho was “too small” for it to be believable that he could beat Goldberg on the ring

The whole “too small” mentality is STILL something some wrestling fans and promoters hold on to. It’s toxic and limiting.

But Chris never wanted to BEAT Bill in the WCW feud he was pitching. He kept telling Bischoff he wanted bill to beat his ass repeatedly in matches because he said people would pay alot of money to see it and Goldberg flat out wasn't interested

Look at Daniel Courmier vs Derrick Lewish, Floyd vs Canelo, Have vs Valuev or Duran vs Leonard. In real fight sports the much smaller guy can win if he's more skilled.

@@jefferyjones8399 I feel like that depends on who the wrestler is. If it’s a wrestler like Bret Hart, HBK, Benoit, Kurt Angle, Jericho, E.Guerrero, A.J. Styles, etc… then I can by into a smaller guy out classing a bigger guy in a match, but only so many times. However if it’s someone like Rey Mysterio (especially in his WCW days), Finn Balor, or any of these new wrestler like Darby Allin or Orange Cassidy then I can’t buy into them beating much larger wrestlers unless it’s a match with a stipulation we’re they can use weapons to win.
