To people who protect this version of vicious, saying that they turned one dimensional character into “complex real human of a character”. Being one dimensional villain was the point. We weren’t supposed to know anything about vicious. He was supposed to be some kind of force of nature, agent of chaos, that suddenly appears in the middle of a story to fuck up spike’s day. Because vicious as a character didn’t matter, spike does.
@LongSinceDead1
@LongSinceDead1 2 жыл бұрын
Very true, and he also isn't any more complex in this than he was in the original. He is one-dimensional here too so that's a terrible defense; having more screen time doesn't automatically grant a character more depth. They made him more obnoxious and hammy in the adaptation, so not only is he no more complex, but he's significantly harder to take seriously.
@RazielBR
@RazielBR 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that makes sense! They tried to humanize one of the only characters whose main point was NOT being humanized. He was the contrapoint to Spike. Both were assassins, but each one followed a different path. Vicious is the shadow that Spike could've been. While I enjoyed the live action show, the portrayal of Vicious and the *twist* with Julia are two of the weakest points there.

@danzansandeev6033
@danzansandeev6033 2 жыл бұрын
@@markangelogarcia2136 sometimes it’s better for the story. Spike in anime doesn’t even fight vicious per say. He’s fighting his past. There could be anyone in place of vicious, it would work as long as the antagonist represents his past. That’s why in terms of story of cowboy bebop villain is so one dimensional, it’s intentional. You think writers who can make us care about a character in one episode can’t write complex villain? They just didn’t need to do it

In this live action version, Vicious is very emotional, his facial expressions show every little thought in his mind. In the anime, you wouldn't know what he was thinking and how he would react to certain events: that made him a menacing and scary character. A cold, smart assassin was portrayed as an emotional, insecure, immature-with-daddy-issues child. The character was totally destroyed by the writers of this Netflix series. PS: You forgot to include the part where he answers a phone saying: "mochi, mochi..." It was so painful to watch.

Its not just that tho, Netflix turned Vicious from a villian to a painful pitiful joke, i truly flinched. Nevermind how they mutilated multiple other characters in order to fit a piss poor muitlated version of the narrative. I wish writers would get over the 'flavour of the month' marvel/avengers style storytelling instead of this load of tripe. They could not have done any worse if they did a 1 for 1 copy of the anime. Watching this is sorta like playing the Resident evil games and then watching the Mila movie versions.

I like the pimple/ wart/ lipoma on his nose. That is what I want from a live action adaptation! Actors who look worse than the average cosplayer. I also love how they turned a cold-hearted killing machine like Vicious into basically Infinite "I am NOT weak!". I like that because it is so much more real. And as we all know, fictional characters in a neon-noir/ western/ space opera need to be as real as possible, while also being capable of fighting off twenty guards ALONE, with no more than two, maybe three guards attacking at once. What a dumbster fire of a show. But at least one that's easy to make fun of.

No...its a terribly made show on its own. The writing for story and script are horrible, the acting is mostly horrible, the production is mostly horrible, the action is mostly horrible, and its insanely cliche while completely missing the heart of what made Bebop good. Even if the anime didn't exist this is still not a well made show by any honest standard.

In netflix CB everyone needs to prove something. Vicious is a repressed gay who needs to prove he's macho, so he kill everyone (and he is very angry, so fragile his masculinity, very deep Netflix). Faye is the typical annoying drunk woman who needs to prove she is strong despite being a woman (Pretty misogynist Wokeflix...original faye was strong. period). Julia is a confused young lady with bottox who needs to prove she's not tied to the problems of men and can take power if she wants and if the writers allow it. I could go on but I have other things to do.

Jesus fucking christ I hate this shit, Vicious would never show such an emotion. Only time he showed any emotion at all was a slight smile at Spike when talking about their past

Watching this without knowing the original must be a bit cringe, but watching knowing the original is like being witness of a cold-blooded murder. I get that adapting something like cow boy bebop is difficult since it could be considered a masterpiece, but how they managed to ruin it like this is beyond my comprehension.

Legendary Anime should be left alone. No spin offs, no live action, nothing.. Everything Hollywood and modern Cinema touches these days turns to crap. I dont know why, but like 99% of them are are just bad.

They should have shown Vicious less in the adaptation, and in the scenes they showed only have him be portrayed as a badass antagonist and not some wimp

This live action. Vicious version reminds me of Netflix death note L. Now imagine in the anime L and vicious were up against eachother it would have been very interesting the police work and the cut throating action or intelligence behind those two. Now put netflix L and Vicious and you got two angry kids in the daycare fighting 😑
