I saw Buddy Holly in England in 1958. Been playing and teaching people his music ever since. His music was simple and sincere. Where can you find that now? Buddy will live forever!

It's funny how Paul McCartney is so famous that you know it's him, even before he opens the door! His silhouette is so recognizable. Great doc!

I've had some issues with 'Sir Paul' over the decades, but..as a lifelong Buddy fanatic I've always deeply appreciated how Paul (and the other lads in THAT band) always gave major props to Buddy. Elvis may have been King..but Buddy carved out the template for every rock band that came after him--and wrote, in under 3yrs, some of the most amazing, timeless songs of all time. Still, THE greatest loss/and 'what might have been' in rock history...Happy 82nd birthday Buddy. Rave on.

Buddy said Elvis opened the door for him and others. He was playing Country and Western until he saw Elvis in '54. Waylon Jennings said Elvis changed Buddy. Elvis didn't like being called the King. Elvis made perhaps the biggest impact on R&R but the black influences as well as Country, along with all of the great contributors made R&R.

I love the accuracy in this because The Buddy Holly Story (the film with Gary Busey) has many historical inaccuracies portraying Buddy Holly as this impatient violent man when he was calm and peaceful and was never violent. The Real Buddy Holly Story is precise to the point and covers his whole biography too bad his life got cut off short at the age of 22. I am only 17 but I am in love with his music. I grew up listening to his type and he was way ahead of his time being the ultimate pioneer of rock and roll. In history books they should mention him more and not Elvis, who did not write his own music but Buddy Holly who wrote, played instruments, and sung at the same time. RIP Buddy
@NoelG702
@NoelG702 6 жыл бұрын
Brandon Lewinter Buddy did write his own songs but not all of them. Oh Boy, Rave on, It doesn't matter anymore and a couple more were written by other people, but buddy recorded them. He made them into great songs where the original versions were more country and folk than rock n roll.

how about the accuracy(NOT) of Paul McCartney playing Peggy Sue and the record label says Brunswick when it was on Coral records label...McCartney know that....how could he make such a terrible mistake in the first few minutes?, sad
@Mayfloweralways

Just to clarify, Elvis played many instruments, and can be heard playing guitar on his early records. He just wasn’t big on playing on stage most of the time. He didn’t write music, though he did contribute to the feel of the songs and often changed them to sound significantly better. Bridge Over Troubled Water is one example. It was Paul Simon who said “How can I compete with that?” After hearing Elvis perform it. And Elvis greatly influenced Buddy Holly in inspiring him to want to be a performer. My point is, there is a reason Elvis is in the history books. No need to tear one person down to build up another. The Beatles name is due to the Crickets, yet John Lennon said “Before Elvis, there was nothing.”

Actually, if you listen to Waylon Jennings song Old Friend, which is about Buddy Holly, there's a line about his temperament. "They've been writin' books about you And the stories that they tell Make you look like some kind of angel But we both know you're mean as hell." He was a good person, very humble, caring, and loved his fans, but if he was mad he apparently got mad 😂

There are thousands of young Buddy Holly fans In Britain. His music was years and years a head of Its time... It never seems dated, especially his lesser known acoustic stuff. The Holly sound of the 50s became the British sound of the 60s..god bless Buddy Holly... all the best Marihottie.

Holly Hawk Yeah growing up, I never really appreciated Buddy and his contribution to music and sadly I never understood why he was such a big deal to the people of Lubbock. I was a stupid kid. Then I got older and wiser when it came to music and I began reading more into him and listening to his music and I started appreciating him more, And then I found out he was a major influence on The Beatles and that's when I really appreciated him. Now I love him and every contribution he had made to music. I am proud to say I was born in raised in Buddy Holly's hometown. Sending much love to you from good ole Lubbock, Texas

Buddy, Was my music hero! Since I was a kid. I am 60 now. Buddy died about 1 yr and a half before I was born. His birthday and mine are 1 day apart. My mother listen too and sang Buddy's songs as I grew up. When I listen to his music. It's like I am right there with him. I understand his music and Buddy himself. Both of us being Virgo's. If I was to write music or sing. His music would be mine! People don't understand it. But I do! R.I.P Buddy, Ritchie and The Big Bopper. You punched a Big Hole in the sky. After Rock-n- Rollin THE Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. No one knew What lied ahead in that Blinding snow storm. But Jesus! Was there to take you to heaven. Rock n Roll lives on Buddy! If you could only see it now! You would be Amazed! Shawn

I really enjoyed this when it came out, and I found it especially haunting to hear Norman Petty's widow playing the celeste part to "Everyday" at the end of this piece. And don't get me wrong, I'm glad Paul McCartney produced this film, but it also happened to coincide with Paul's acquisition of the Buddy Holly publishing catalogue in the mid-80's. He's certainly no dummy. Thanks for posting! Haven't seen this since it aired in 1985 or so.

That would have been the very first rock and roll tragedy, I am guessing that Don McLean was just about your age and felt that same deep lose that you felt. Buddy was so young, just imagine how his music and his life would have evolved had he lived. I wonder what he would have looked and sounded like in 1969, long hair? doubt it but who knows. It's always sad to look back at such unfulfilled promise and talent unable to grow and progress. His impact even today shows his talents were large.
