Our power bill in WI averages $425.00 in the summer and $350.00 in the winter for a 1200 sq ft home. The khw are .52. Hawaii is sounding better and better.

If you have access to military commissary that also changes costs. I lived in HI back in 87-91. I lived in Mililani, Pearl City, Waipio and Makakilo and drank tap water all the time, did something change or happen to make the water a problem? Hubs and I are moving back this year and are curious if there’s a water problem?

I live in Mililani, I drink the tap water? I'm not sick yet? And I like it . When I lived in Hilo, we went to the water park in Keau for water and filled 5 gallon juggs for free because we have water catchment systems. Hilo is cheaper but jobs are a bit harder to acquire for a good one and you had better stay there?! More chilled living and more of a Brotherhood there. Houses are much cheaper BUT they are going up.

Not everyone has solar and it’s not cheap to purchase or lease in a lot of cases. But can help.

In my opinion they aren’t really that bad. It does depend on time of year and where you’re at but overall I don’t think they’re bad.

Hey quick question, I am moving there soon! Why do people get the filtered water in Oahu? Is getting a Britta water filter worth it instead?

Great question! If you Google it they say it’s ok to drink tap water and some say it’s treated with chlorine. Sometimes it’s cultural and others like me and my wife think the water taste funny. But we think it taste funny in Vegas too. So we always drink bottled water. More preference than anything.

I think the tap water in Hawaii tastes the best of anywhere I’ve ever been. I’m from here though so I don’t know if people not used to it would disagree

US military has had numerous fuel spills and contaminated deep wells and aquifers on Oahu. I assume people buy filtered water as a result of this. The health risks of drinking contaminated water are devastating. Brita won't take out those jet fuel chemicals.

You live on Oahu and that is very expensive. Im guessing the electricity maybe on the big island might be a little cheaper?

It all depends. But it’s run by a subsidiary company called Hawaiian Electric Light Company. energy.hawaii.gov/developer-investor/utility-resources

I live alone. Is there tiny homes, solar panels for homes.a way to save money. I would be fine living in a 300 to 500 sq foot space. Not in a big city. I live in ny not the city. I pay 850 for a 1 bed about 1000 sq feet. I pay extra for electric. During the summer I run the ac most the time . I buy alot of dairy free. I don't buy eggs or dairy. Is it cheaper to buy some land and buy a trailer or build a small house?

Uummm, you mentioned you don't have any options as far as your electric bill, how bout Solar panels, don't tell me they're illegal in Hawaii. Then again, what you save on one side, you spent on the other, something tells me the solar panels are not cheap at all.
