What are the dangers of Over The Counter Hearing (OTC) hearing aids and why? What are the prescriptive amounts inside of OTC aids? Who can get them? Why did the FDA not send you at least to any hearing care professional to know what your hearing is? What is "Perceived Mild to Moderate Hearing Loss" mean? Who benefits from telling you to get OTC hearing aids?

Most people including myself, can’t afford the $4-7K for prescriptive hearing aids. Our country has a bifurcated group of hearing-impaired people, differentiated by wealth. OTC hearing aids are not perfect but they are MUCH better than nothing. Perhaps the availability of lower-cost alternatives, albeit flawed, will help the medical hearing industry streamline and optimize the prescriptive hearing improvement process.

I completely hear your point. But understand what the deal is. Hearing aids range from 2500-7000 for a set. That's too high for a bunch of people. OTCs range from 1000-2000 for a set. THAT is STILL too high. That isn't the answer when they don't even TOUCH a Moderate to Severe hearing loss. It's like putting my reading glasses on to try to drive when I can't see the signs on the road...won't work! If they REALLY want to make a possibility then OTCs need to cost 500-700 per PAIR of aids and have more ability to help people. But they are TOO greedy. I don't even do OTCs because they can't help anyone but the mildest of hearing losses. Those people do NOT want hearing aids yet. Do you see the problem? Mild hearing losses with too much price STILL don't help those who are NEEDY for help. I have personally done massive things for patients in my clinic to help them...out of my own pocket. But I will tell you something that is about to happen... There's a topic called NESARA that is a gold backed currency coming to the world. It will irrevocably change ALL PRICING worldwide on all types of products of every kind. When the value of the money is there, prices fall. When you have a worthless currency such as the Fiat and MASSIVE points of inflation, prices go UP. That's why basic goods and housing is so out of sight. The Fed is dying. Once that occurs, you will see that switchover, then we will see people AFFORD real hearing aids at a price that they CAN DO for their hearing loss. It's something I talk about on another channel.

Hello sir Thank you very much for your excellent vedio it is very important for me as a severe hearing loss patient with tinnitus and weak speech recognition So I should be grateful if you help me to gain a suitable hearing aid from USA ( such as Starkey Vivo AI or any ...) because as you know this version It isn't available in EGYPT

I know for a FACT that there are fitted hearing aids that you can get in Egypt instead of trying OTC hearing aids that are only useable for a VERY few people. Go see an Audiologist in your town. See what can be done. Why? If you have a severe hearing loss, an OTC WILL NOT work for you. I do not know which one will work for you since I don't know the true extent of your hearing loss. How can a physician diagnose one without all the blood work, diagnostics in from of him or her? That's why you need to see that person.

What level receiver would you use for a flat moderate loss? I have had the standard in the past, now just got medium power in my new devices,.. is it normal that they feel super strong? Am I supposed to have a medium power receiver for a moderate loss?
@HearingSolutionCtr

On flat, moderates I put 50dB gains for that.

@@HearingSolutionCtr For most manufacturers, what would be the case?.. Im just confused what you meant by the 50db gain
@HearingSolutionCtr
@HearingSolutionCtr Жыл бұрын
@@kaylasmusic for 50dB means moderate. I believe it's incumbent for Audiologists to pick the Matrix for patients. Most Audios don't pick the Matrix and let the Manufacturer do so by a crappy greyed out graph that is HORRIBLE. That's the shittiest way of doing it. I am an old school way of making sure my patient gets the appropriate amp she needs to get the gain required. So I go inside those needs. That's why I hate OTC because they are horrid at understanding gain.

About 18 months ago, I was supplied with my first (and last!) pair of hearing aids - Phonak brand. I went to a national audiologist and underwent hearing test and was fitted with these. They give me slightly better hearing at the cinema or when watching TV (which I rarely do). They make zero difference when it comes to conversations and sometimes they impair my hearing further. When it comes to using the telephone, I don't hear a word being said and I have to take them out. Further, when I have worn them for more than about three hours, they are do irritating that I just want to tear my ears off. Having them adjusted makes zero difference. Were it not for the fact that some people report theirs work brilliantly, I would conclude that the whole audiology industry was some kind of racket.

I appreciate your comments here. If I had a patient saying that it didn't help them in conversations, I would desire to see them immediately. My hearing aids help me every day. If it's not helping, there's something significantly wrong. I am sorry about that. But one bad experience does not equate to a whole industry should it? Just like one bad knee surgery (of which I have had several) should not say that all orthos are horrid people??? Does that make sense?

@@HearingSolutionCtr That's perfectly true. Like I said, some people have found hearing aids have transformed their lives and enabled them to interact with others. I guess they just don't work for me.

@@dogglebird4430 Are there people who can't wear hearing aids? Yes. Are there problems with hearing aids? Yes. But realize that hearing aids aren't one size fits all (I know you know that). I see TONS of patients who purchased hearing aids other places but were misfitted. Please don't give up. It's not about spending money. It's about hearing and understanding your family. Don't do it for me...don't do it for the profession. Who cares about us! We don't matter. Your FAMILY is the one who wants you to understand them. It's about them. That's the important part. Do not give up on your ears. Find another Audiologist to go to. Investigate further.
