Enjoying reading the comments here; I too, am the owner of not only an FYM66HD, but also a PYM60HD/14 Parlor guitar. My ownership of these two phenomenal guitars comes with a story. My journey began in 2007, when I purchased a Collings DS1B acoustic, a lovely mahogany/Adirondack 12-fret slope-shoulder Dreadnought. I hoped it to be my “legacy instrument,” and it serves me well for 14 years. As my playing skills improved, I found myself frequently in the upper registers of the fretboard; the 12-fret configuration became increasingly inhibiting to my playing, and found itself in the case more frequently, in favor of other guitars that I owned at the time. I finally made the decision to let her go; broke my heart, but she deserved a player who would play her more than I was. About the same time, Taylor came out with their Grand Pacific line; Andy Powers’ design and superb marketing pitch, I bought a Rosewood GP. A very well made guitar in its own right, superb attention to detail, played very well, and sounded…okay. I truly wanted to love that guitar, but, something was missing, and I couldn’t quite nail it down, let alone fix it, despite trips to my luthier, multiple string brand/gauge changes, different plectrums. One day, in my local music store, my dealer guru guy told me he was bringing the Yairi line to his store. A few weeks later, a shipment of Yairis came in, to include two 66HDs. I A/B played them, and liked them both, but one more than the other. I would show up at the shop once to twice weekly, and “fell in love 30 minutes at a time.” One day, one had sold, (not the one I liked better😉) I decided that I better pull the trigger soon-I finally decided the Taylor was a fun date, but not the marryin’ kind-I finagled a straight-across trade, the Taylor for the 66HD. For what i lost in dollars and cents on the initial Taylor purchase, I made up for in spades on this amazing guitar! This is a high-end boutique instrument in its own right! The dealer had a couple Parlor HDs show up not long after; after an intensive A/B shootout with these two, I pulled the trigger on this one, as well. I recently had the opportunity to purchase a Collings OM-1 Julian Lage signature model, for a significant drop from its heart-stopping MSRP $. After playing it, at length, I admired it greatly, but truth told, everything it was/did, my 66HD was superior in all aspects-I really didn’t need a $4000 toy, that wouldn’t get played as much as my $2500 now-legacy 66HD. These two ARE the keepers, for the remainder of my years. I have since sold off the remainder of my acoustic guitars, some pretty high-end items, save for my go-anywhere Taylor GS Mini Koa. Since I have the BEST, I don’t need the rest!😎👍

I just got the FYM66HD. I wonder if you got the creme Alvarez hardshell case with yours? Mine came in a gig bag, can you believe! Production of the hardshell case seems to have suffered due to the pandemic. But I believe in Canada they have started manufacturing a brown Alvarez case to go with the FYM66HD.

Wonderful. Very interesting. Im a lumbermans daughter. Kept thinking about George Nakashimi... bet he had some good stuff stashed. Dang, I'm loving these guitars. But a distinct difference in their voices and now I can't choose...the mahagony sounds like velvet and the other like silk, and now I want them both. You guys are like drug dealers. I'm hooked on your really good Japanese guitar heroin. 😂❤❤❤

I own an Alvarez MF60CEOM, a Breedlove Discovery S Concertina (cedar top/layered mahogany back and sides), a Martin 000-15SM, and an Enya Nova Go (non-electric; use for traveling/playing without worrying about the elements). I had made an agreement with my wife that I could only have 4 guitars since that is what fits under our bed. I had never had an all-mahogany guitar before, but when I got the Martin 000-15SM for a steal-of-a-deal used, WOW! I LOVE the all-mahogany sound! I'm a singer-songwriter type, playing softer, intimate stuff, some fingerpicking, I do use a pick for some of my songs for strumming or picking notes, but I mainly love to strum with my thumb/fingers, have that natural, intimate sound. Anyway, all of this to ask, in your opinion, would the FYM66HD be worth selling my Alvarez MF60CEOM and Breedlove Discovery S Concertina, both of which have hardshell cases, too, to help fund the FYM66HD, and I currently have a sitka spruce top (Alvarez), cedar top (Breedlove), mahogany top (Martin), and carbon fiber composite top (Enya), and with the FYM66HD that would then leave me with two mahogany guitars and the carbon fiber composite. Opinions? Also, if I wanted a pickup for thr FYM66HD, what would you suggest? Thank you for any advice! 🙂👍

I agree. These are amazing guitars. I think it's a bit unfair to play a demonstration in open tuning. Any guitar will sound much better in full open tuning. I have a question concerning build construction of your Masterworks guitars. I know that they are dovetail joints but what glue is used? Many have been saying that Alvarez uses EPOXY for they're dovetail joints. Could you please set this straight for everyone. I love Alvarez guitars and play my MD60BG more than all my other guitars, including my 65 Epiphone Texan. Thank you and great video

I just emailed them about this on my 66hd. They are epoxy neck joint hide glue everywhere else, at least on the yairi line.
@HayesTech
@HayesTech Жыл бұрын
@@donaldspak960 I contacted Alvarez and they told me that all their guitars use standard wood glue for the neck to body joint. It's a white glue that has been upgraded in newer models to be non off gassing. So it's an even better white glue. "No stink".. lol...Like how the new Epiphone guitars smell new. After about a year the smell goes away. The new white glue that Alvarez is using doesn't have the off-gassing.

How is Honduran different than standard mahogany? Would it be closer to rosewood? I prefer rosewood due to the overtones.
@edwardgarner1299
@edwardgarner1299 2 жыл бұрын
First of all there is no such thing as "standard" mahogany (there are at least 15 different mahogany wood types, 5-6 that luthiers favor for making instruments), as well as there are also different Rosewood types -- each with its own acoustic sound. I have both Indian and Brazilian Rosewood guitars (with Spruce tops) that are high-end instruments. They are wonderfully sounding guitars I love to play and have kept in pristine condition for the 20 years I've owned them. I've had my FYM66HD for only two months now (my first all-mahogany guitar), but it has become my favorite guitar to play. Now I understand why the most revered traditional form of the wood for guitar making is Honduran mahogany -- but the FYM66HD is way beyond typical. Acoustic sound projection is outrageous for an OM size guitar; tones are warm and wonderfully balanced -- plenty of bass, but not heavy like my Brazilian, and sweet, clear treble notes up the entire fretboard, plenty loud enough but more sonically subdued than my Indian Rosewood guitar, which to my ears the mahogany produces more pleasantly sounding notes.
