Back in the early aughts, it seemed like Emeril Lagasse was everywhere. From Emeril Live to his restaurants to his face on the boxes of expensive cookware, it was all about Emeril. As a matter of fact, his rise to stardom was what ushered in the giant wave of celebrity chefs. Then BAM!, just like that he seemed to disappear, and part of that was due to the Food Network cancelling his namesake show. Have you ever wondered why the popular cooking show got the axe? Join us as we tell you the real reason Emeril Lagasse's Food Network show was canceled.

Who is the best TV chef of all time?
@Thommadura
@Thommadura 5 жыл бұрын
Julia Child was likely the TV chef who was most influential - However any time you ask who was the BEST of all time - that is subject to interpretation - and personal choices. Also note that even in the USA - there were MANY show that were show regionally - and NOT nationally.

The Food Network has degraded into a reality show circus over the past decade -- more and more about low-intellect, "personality-driven" competitions, and less and less about teaching people how to cook -- full of hype but little substance. It is deplorable!

Emeril, IMO, was the guy who started the slow but sure downward spiral into hell for FN. It was interesting and cool previously until it turned into a celeb driven, catch phrase fest. The old stand and stir shows were far better, more educational, and fun. Two Fat Ladies, David Rosengarten, and the like were great. Now it’s just another contest show after another, same crap as any other network, few really educational shows (Ina Garten being the notable exception). Food Network stinks, BAM!

I also liked Alton Brown in his earliest shows. However even he got off track later on. I always liked Ina - because She made elegant meals that I can also make - I can cook - so I don't really need to learn to boil water. BUT - and this is going to be laughed at - Mario Batali - in his show Molto Mario - had those "guests" - most of whom really had no clues about cooking - BUT OFTEN they would ask a question - not always about regional Italian - and Mario would spend time explaining them in the best of ways. He also picked up a trait from Lydia - by asking himself questions - and answering them that really helped.

I remember that show too. Ironically I wondered about the term frugal and what seemed like frequent use of wine in cooking (not particularly frugal, in my opinion)... but today it would never work, because today's youth have such limited vocabulary that "frugal" would be gibberish to them... not to mention a generation that spends $700+ every 2 years for the latest iPhone, would by definition, have no clue what frugality is...
@kaferrat
@kaferrat 5 жыл бұрын
@@ronlewis8398 - Using wine in a recipe doesn't necessarily mean they use a $100 - 200 bottle of wine to cook with. I don't think "frugal" is always just about the cost of something. It can mean knowing when to use something. I guess it can be different to someone else.

Emeril was a sensation, a superstar chef. He made the Food TV Network when it was in it's infancy. Emeril had the talent and charisma, but seemed to get a little too big for his britches at some point. I love the format of the old cooking shows where a real chef teaches you how to cook. His demise on the channel was a harbinger of the shallow crap that they started programming. I haven't watched the Food Network for 15 years, can't stand it. There are some great cooking channels on youtube now, that's where I get my fix. Much love to Emeril for teaching me how to cook New Orleans food with proper technique and have it be fun.

How was it costing the Food network hundreds of thousands a week to produce his shows when his contract was about $333k annually? If he was advertising his own branded products on his shows then of course the network should have a right to charge for that, but for them to get a % of revenue from that is ludicrous! The real reason he left is simple. He was a mans man of a chef and the new leaders of the network that came in wanted the star of their network someone to be less masculine. Bad mistake! I never watch that channel now as its programing blows!! You cannot watch the Food network to learn anything about cooking, but if you want to see how some single mom from Cincinnati can win a bake off, then this fluffy channel is for you!

The story should have been said like this, "Emeril Lagasse started the TV network with his style of cooking along with some humor and the basics of what recipe he was cooking on the show."" Emeril's BAM got my grandma laughing so hard, bless her heart, she waited for him to say Bam and when he did, she laughed so hard she cried!! I have Emeril's cookware and I wouldn't change a thing! I have had it for several years and it looks like it will last me for the rest of my life. Keep on cooking Emeril!! Blessings to you and your family! Who needs Food Network any hooo.. (and btw, I would have much rather continued watching Emeril as to Flay and Ray.. well, ok, so I ended up watching Ray bc there was no more Emeril!) The End

One of my favorite celebrity chefs because he simply loved people. He embraced black culture as well. I actually cooked for him in New Orleans. Born and raised there. So I was naturally influenced to be a great cook or a great chef. I attended culinary school a few blocks from his restaurant. Although I never work from him, he came to our school. And think us for helping out with a large banquet he had. He was super cool. He even said his trademark "bam!" Before he left.

FoodNetwork changed their network so much. They are all about competition and baking shows nowadays. That is the reality of the situation. They wanted Emeril to do more reality and competition shows like Guy Fierre does but he was not having it. I bet you if they brought back Emeril live as a reboot or even the Essence of Emeril they would do just fine. If it wasn't for Emeril FoodNetwork might not even exist....

So basically they wanted complete control over his brand name so they dumped him when he wouldn't renegotiate his contract. Uh yeah good decision on his part.

Even though I didn't watch that much of food network growing up I will still prefer the older shows over they're contest shows they run now. Even hgtv has gone downhill

It's more or less just the progression of entertainment. I used to watch Emeril Live but there's not a chance these days. KZfaq has change the entertainment world. Why on earth would I watch Emeril when I could watch personally chosen channels that aren't built for the masses but more or less chosen by my own viewing choice right here on youtube. KZfaq has also pretty much killed "TV" in general for me...can't wait see the future and find out what kills youtube.

It won't be long and somebody will start another food network that has shows just about cooking, and Food Network will be shocked at how many viewers that new network will get.
