It is one of the deadliest typhoon ever recorded in the world in a long time. The last time the world recorded a typhoon with that magnitude was... decades ago. Maybe a century. But yeah typhoon yolanda, as devastating it was, hit the only place in the world where people still choose to not only survive it, but will show resilience and thrive after. If that hit anywhere else I dont think people will be able to cope. The Filipino spirit has faced every negative event (natural or otherwise) just like every other nation has, but what makes it special is how we chose to look at the brighter side of things. Naturally and generally we dont hold a ill-feelings, at least not for a very long time. Just like what my mom always say, we are not a violent society. We dont seek to punish, we seek to live peaceful happy lives. We have that feeling of content, and yes while of course there are those that have ambitions, general we just want our families to be secured. And since much of our culture is centered about family that is why we generally appear and ARE happy. We are happy even if we have to endure pain, because our mindset is not selfish, it is always about our families.

I remembered I was roughly 12 that time, how we often got stuck on our flooded house, our clothes hanging inside of a garbage bags, lack of food and proper distilled water, we evacuate on higher grounds even by a bit, swam the great floods and some of us died because of the current, but yeah in the middle of it we keep on smiling, we thought of a hundred reasons to joke around and still be kind and compassionate to one another, it teaches us that we can't survive alone ❤️❤️❤️

It's kind of a thing for us filipinos to smile. Idk if other people are like this but I smile because I believe that every horrible and I mean THE MOST horrible problems and issues always come to an end. There is no point in putting a frown on your face because it will always end well. Keep that in mind :) Tho most of the time, our smiles are just masks covering the pain, suffering, regret, anger and hate. The Philipines has been throught alot and i'm sure other countries have too but us Filipinos will always find a reason to smile. It's kind of part of our blood y'know? You may have not yet experienced any disaster to those levels as we had in the past but you might now that you're living here in the Philippines, with our strong storms that may cause flash floods as you have seen in the vid, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, perhaps the big earthquake that we were alerted on which hasn't happened yet...but inspite of these many unfortunate disasters, we Filipinos worked together to rebuild, restore, whatever we have lost and move on to build our better lives from there. and yes, whenever you see Filipinos smile, our smiles are as genuine as our hearts... thank you both for appreciating and loving our country and our people as much as we love to have you in our Filipino family and homeland... stay safe and happy here George and Lucy!

Filipinos smile because it is just natural for us to smile because Filipinos are the happiest people on Earth. It is fun in the Philippines because it is naturally fun in the Philippines. Filipinos are friendly because Filipinos are naturally friendly like its in our DNA and we love foreigners because we want foreigners to feel home or be like us. My point is, They did all of these because its just natural to them and its not like they do it to promote Tourism. Yes Tourism is also a business in the Philippines, but they dont do everything I just said to tell people to “ohh come to our country because we are like this to the foreigners”. Unlike in some countries that I dont like to mention, they kinda do it because its more of like a business to attract foreigners for Tourism. Filipinos are just natural and I know that you know and everybody knows that its like that in the Philippines. Mabuhay Philippines!

I remember before, I forgot if it's Ondoy or Yolanda. It's a total black out in our barangay, our fear is on flood, on whirlwind. But my mother hugged us and we pray, after praying that night we feel the assurance that we will be safe whatever happen. And yes, we are still here. Most of the Filipinos are like that.

We always smile we are surrounded with sea water and a lot of sunshine though we are calamity stricken country like Yolanda, Volcanic eruption, earthquakes, landslides, tidal waves, dengue we still think life goes on we continue through hardship. We have bayanihan traditions, we help to those who are in need, old traditions we share our food with people who are starving even if they don’t know them personally. But now are different especially in crowded cities.

Filipinos are known for resiliency. We have this thing called "Bahala na" attitude, which is like just going with the flow and just accept that what will be will be. Sometimes this attitude is negative, as we sometimes not plan ahead, but amidst tragedies and the likes, it serves us well. And, of course, the Filipino humor. The ability to see things in funny light, especially in retrospect. We also tend to hide sadness behind the facade of humor, because, what else can we do since these things are beyond our control.
