I just saw the Pan America for the first time in person yesterday when I went to ask for the Riding Academy program at my local Harley dealer. For some reason the bike seemed "smaller" in real life than in the photos and videos, which, in my mountain bike experience, should be better for flicking it around in between the trees. I liked it. A lot. I liked the "industrial" look of the headlight and the general "rugged" design of it. I liked that it looks different from other ADV bikes, and the mountain biker in me fell in love with it in an instant. I hope of one day owning one. Cheers, Sean.

I have been an avid motorcyclist for over 50 years, but never really caught the cruiser bug, which left me sort of disconnected with Harley Davidson. But I think they hit a home run with the Pan America, and proved without a doubt they are an elite and talented motorcycle company capable of competing in any niche they choose. At my advanced age, the bikes I ride are getting smaller in displacement and lighter, but if I were 20 years younger a Pan America would definitely reside in my garage.

This bike has more problems than the DNC. Harley as always dropped the ball on fixing the electrical issues in a timely fashion. With the auto lowering failure it should have been a serious issue. As always the Harley guys that wanted an ADV bike bought one and out found that Harley does not fix things in a timely fashion. The value of this bike has dropped like a stone down a well. I've been riding (as an owner) since '82 myself, but never had the money to go HD. Bought a 1980 Honda in '82 for $600 (with brand new tires) so I get what you're saying. Still have my YZF 1000, and now a 2020 Indian Scout Bobber. I'm 64, and have never owned a brand new motorcycle. And I've been a motorcycle mechanic for 38 years!

@@gregwillis7767 LOL! I've owned somewhere north of 40 motorcycles, and only one was new - a 1974 Honda XL100. Unlike cars, THOUSANDS of people buy motorcycles every year and then never ride them. A year or two later they can be bought in mint condition with very few miles for a fraction of what they would cost new. 3,000 miles seems to be the sweet spot where I tend to find the best buys, but I have bought used bikes with as little as 200 miles on the clock.

I've just brought a Pan Am, feeling very happy. I've had a Lowrider since 1989, I'm keeping it, and the Pan Am is so different. I didn't like the orange/white and blue/white versions, I thought they looked horrible, then I saw the olive green, with the Army star on the tank, and I wanted one of these straight away.

I am leaning on something smaller for easy riding back and forth to work and exploring country / back roads on the weekends. 300L would be a great bike for this in my opinion. Thanks for the well informed information on this bike mate. Been riding bikes 41 years this year, and Harleys for 21 and this is one of the only bikes I'd think seriously about. Was talking to a mate who works in the dealership I live near in Northern Ireland, and this bike plus the electric trickery one he said were a total game changer for him, but the Pan wins hands down. I think they're priced well enough, and I've seen a few on the road, and everyone who owns one, loves them. As a chap said on here, the headlight is the 'stop and look' part. My only problem is, I'm in a club. Everyone rides the old style HD, even me with the mighty Dyna. There's gotta be a point that I or someone else goes 'Hey, I love that machine' and goes for it! Thank you for your great video. God bless you my friend, and thanks for the verse. Every time I go on a run, anywhere, I ask my Lord for safe travels...Vic

I have had mine for almost a year. For the first 8 months or so, I switched between street and sport on a regular basis. Eventually I took some time to figure out the custom power modes and now I stay in custom full power, sportiest suspension settings with all traction control & ABS at the minimum. It transforms the bike much more than the regular sport mode and lowers it at least an inch or two. Basically reminds me of my old R1 now that I have the Fuel Moto 12” carbon muffler, except you’re sitting upright.

ha "depending on how many times you've seen it" you either find the bike ugly or you're falling in love with it is so true. I initially didn't like the design of the bike, i hated the weird blocky headlight, the windscreen, the way the tank and exhaust and rear fender looked and i thought it was overpriced, too heavy and that it simply paled in comparison to other bikes in this class. But i learned long ago after some research that this bike is super capable and goes toe to toe with the best from other manufacturers. I've come to love the design of it, the headlight is a distinguishing feature that complements the bike well, the lines are elegant and simple, and overall it's a super solid bike for the price. that engine is magnificent and I'm hoping the reliability of it holds up in the long up. Harley really knocked it out of the park with this one.

@@sciencemilitia1853 Oil light came on at idle and low revs, scoring on the oil pump walls was discovered, and small filings, the dealer took advice from the factory throughout. The factory recommended a new engine rather than performing root cause analysis to find where the filings had come from. During the breakdown, the dealer also discovered a missing part, a manifold was mentioned in the notes which I seem to have mislaid so I cannot provide exact information on that last item. I bought the bike from a different dealer from my local one that performed this work. I have to say that so far all warranty claims have been dealt with quickly as soon as parts have arrived, the engine came in from the factory after about 2 weeks. I’ve since had to have the starter solenoid replaced also. In the back of my head, I keep wishing the fuel pump would go out before my warranty expires. Given that this is a 2021 model, it’s of no great surprise that there have been issues, but as I’ve mentioned, all warranty claims have been addressed in a timely manner. There have been a few other very minor things, some of which were resolved with software patches. Despite all of this I’ve got over 10K on the clock and have been very happy generally. Despite having done a few weekend rides out with no issues, I am a little hesitant to plan a multi-week road trip and I am debating if I want to trade it in for a current version, or even go to an alternative manufacturer, but I’m encouraged by the service I got, and I quest what else can go wrong 😊 Sorry for the long explanation.

The Harley trikes have steering dampers from the factory. I used one on my SG when i built the engine. 120+ made it move around a lot and the factory trike steering dampers helped tame that down.

I hope they get this bike dialed in. I had a 2021. It was a fun bike, but it blew the engine at 5000 miles, and after the engine was replaced, it was plagued with burning up the wiring harness for the suspension. The worst part about the suspension issues is the fact that every time it melted the wires, they had to replace the lower fork leg.

Geez... Did they tell you what happened to the motor? I'm a Harley traditionalist but I don't mind progress and i was happy when they made this and the sportster s. I wanted a sportster s but i heard of two separate incidents about the new motor blowing up at low mileage. I hope they sort this thing out.

Thankfully my 22 and my neighbors 22 have been trouble free. I've got almost 18k on mine while he is past the 26k mark. There's always a danger of bugs in a first year run particularly when is an entirely new machine. So glad they worked out the bugs.....it's by far the most fun bike I've owned.

H-D sales guy thought I was going to get a "great deal" for $36k. "Ya know, that includes the cases". Of course the same dealer had 10 year old glides with 50,000 miles for $25k. As old and tired as the Tenere' is, pick one up for under $10k and never have to deal with H-D salesperson or service department ever again.

As I stated on previous post of other reviewers; I personally consider the Pan America in its current form to be more a Sport Tourer than an Adventurer, Ground clearance limations for such a heavy bike will certainly limit your offroard riding to just gravel or dirt roads. I am bewildered at thier choice to place the rectifier and battery in thier current locations, also simple air filter changing looks pretty involved. The maintenance free Valve adjustment looks appealing and is a great idea but is offset by the yet to be discovered longevity of the high compression engine (13:1 compression ratio).

Thanks. I'm doopid of them ratios. 'n here I am wishing I still had my '74 Z1 Kaw I took into quite a few (nobody ever been) mild off roading areas/cross town short cuts out back of cemetery...never waiting in line exiting an outdoor concert/pignic, I took the dry ditch. I bought a 2023 Pan AM, no doubt it is fast, fun and unique. However, it broke two days after I bought it, shut down and screen went black and wouldn't start. Goes to dealer, get it back. Broke immediately again. I lose excitement and trust for the bike. I then ride it around town for about 500 miles. It's doing okay so I decide to ride from NC to IA when my Mom had health issues. The entire way kept having issues. Audio controls and GPS quit working, had ride mode failure with warnings and faults. Ride modes no longer functioning. Then bike would occasionally not start. I took to the IA Harley dealer. They had it a month and a rep came out from Harley. Said nothing was wrong with it. They gave me some BS answers and just reset everything. I had to leave it there since I couldn't trust it. Then had to pay to have it transported to NC. IMMEDIATELY after unloading the bike wouldn't start and had faults. Goes to dealer again and they clear faults and reset it and say it is good. I have pics, videos, documentations and everything. After making the 1000 mile trip to Iowa the bike Has 2k miles on it. Harley won't buy it back, help me get in to another bike, won't even offer more warranty. NOTHING! To add to their poor customer service I have owned 4 Harleys and bought 2 new ones about a year apart. I'd think at 34 years old they'd want to keep me as a customer. I have loved the brand my entire life and no longer have any love or respect for them. Including buying a Pan Am special, with hard bags, fog lights, exhaust, axle guards and many add ons and extended warranty I am $29,991 invested. I asked the dealer what they'd give me for the bike to trade into something else. They offered me $9k after all this, so after getting stuck with a lemon I'd have to take that big of a hit......I hired a lawyer. Hopefully I can get out of this nightmare. I am flying to Milwaukee next week to go to corporate too and try to discuss, I hit a wall with customer service and they won't let me talk to anyone above my "rep." I have never felt so helpless and stuck with a poor quality and expensive purchase/product. Reply

I owned a Pan America for some time. I think you covered many of the positives pretty well but you hit none of the negatives. I traded mine in because they cost so much fully decked out but lack the refinement you SHOULD get for the cost. The jiffy stand causes major issues with the adaptive ride height. Also it’s mounted very poorly on the bike and in a horrible location. The Infotainment system almost NEVER works, and I don’t mean appropriately, I mean it just doesn’t work. It’s battery is to small and is a very simple fix for the factory (as it is a known issue) but they continue to install The smaller battery to pad the profit margin. This causes a host of code issues and starting problems. Additionally, the thing throws codes like crazy. What’s more, the service department’s at the dealerships don’t have enough qualified technicians (a special course they must have) to services the bikes in a timely fashion. There are a host of other problems as well. That having been said… the engine is like nothing I’ve ever ridden. It wheelies so easily, it can power slide in the corners, it’s balance point is unmatched in the large ADV bike segment, and as far as off-road goes, I went everywhere all the smaller bikes could go. Bottom line, if you don’t mind spending a ton of money and not getting all that your paying for and just want a fast and capable ADV bike, you can’t go wrong with the Pan Am.
