61 years old and I do a lot of high rep routines. I still rep 500lbs on the bench raw, but I do a ton of volume. I am a powerlifter.

Good stuff That’s what I would think. I thought heavy weight bearing loads result in bone density and lighter more volumous training helps strengthen the connective tissue?

I've experimented and watched others experiment with ultra low volume high intensity. It doesn't build muscle either. You can get stronger (probably from neural adaptations related to the actual hyperstress of failure). But sarcoplasmic hypertrophy adaptations are strongly correlated with time under tension. Without volume, most people (that aren't training out of a pharmacy) won't grow significant muscle.

@@chickenlips9881 sorry my bad I skimmed over that. But yes it builds muscle, but more volume just works better. increasing total volume (I like adding sets every week) grows you like a weed. Work capacity does wonders for building strength, or potentiating it I should say, in which volume is very good at improving.

Which is why you want to do a ton of volume on chest flies to build up the tendons and ligaments into the shoulder joint to prevent it from snapping under heavy bench pressing 👀 (jk, rather do a crap ton of triceps for the elbow and make sure you aren’t chest dominant)
