Pattaya is definitely a party town but there is also a huge digital nomad community there. A lot of people just don’t advertise their presence in Pattaya like they do in Chiang Mai. This is a completely fascinating video, and the comments here are just as thought-provoking. I was married for 15 years to an American, feminist attorney who was very money focused. I earned a great salary. She earned 3x as much and couldn't deal with the discrepancy. Everything was a competition or power struggle. After a decade of misery I met a beautiful, non-American woman who adores me. It took three years and $300k to get a divorce. Now I am happy, a in more traditional relationship with a kind woman who is 20 years younger. My ex-wife is lonely, miserable, and very wealthy. I've never been to Thailand, don't know if I ever will, but I do enjoy this channel and I am grateful for the generosity of people who share their experiences.

After all doing my research with the pros and cons covering health care ,,cost of living , laws ( for farang ) , eco systems , culture etc . Thailand came out on top for the country I choose to live out my life . @Haary Jing I say this as an Asian American guy but I find that my values are in much closer alignment with Asian women in general. I am Indian/Japanese and the halfway point between India and Japan is basically Thailand and Southeast Asia. There are also around 100,000 Japanese in Bangkok and I think about the same number of Indians in Bangkok. I dated a ton of American women throughout my teenage years to early 20's. By my mid 20's, I was tired and burned out from the Christian paradigm that many of them came from. Even the 'atheists' still operated on a Christian system of ethics, morality, and decision making. It is very different from my Buddhist/Hindu way of thinking. I don't judge anyone for being the way that they are but when it comes to dating, I know what works for me and having to constantly explain things like 'saving face' culture - which I am extremely accustomed to - just gets old after a while. I never really seemed to click with my western partners because of these differences coming up consistently. Dating in SE Asia has been relatively painless in comparison to dating in the US. I have always been up front that I am not living there long-term and didn't have immediate plans to move over. Fortunately, that is changing. I'm late 20's so it's not like I'm seeking an age gap relationship either, all of the women I have dated in SE Asia have been in their early to mid 20's. I also recognize that I'm probably in the minority but I encourage my Asian immigrant friends to consider the same because many of them have had similar struggles as me when it comes to dating in the US.

Very accurate analysis. I would add that lots of thai women (espacially in Bangkok) have very good status in companies compare to the west. Thus they simply looking for a guy that can better take care of them compared to Thai men. They see western guy as more caring and reliable. Additionaly, Thai women knows how to respect the masunility of men which doesn't mean that they are passive or dominated. Actually they are smart enough to let you think so but they are strong women.

Great video. I am one of your 8% female listeners. I am looking to retire in a country that has a low cost of living so Thailand is on my radar. One of the things that pushed me away from even considering it at first is the misconception that all men come to Thailand to get laid. Some of the sleezy men who post videos gave me that impression. Your videos have given me a different view of Thailand so thank you. I am not looking for a man, but just the thought of being around men only wanting sex turns me off. Thousands of years of programming has taught women that if you are going to have babies, you need help financially. It is tough doing it yourself and there is a genetic need to nature babies in a lot of women. If you are going to put up with a person who is basically very different from you and may be difficult to live with after the first few years of honeymoon stage wear off, he had better at least have some money to help you support the babies. It is not fair to men that we women want a man with money, but you are right, that is the way it is for many many women based on the programming of our genes. Can that be changed and is it different for some women, yes. If I were a man, I probably would be attracted to the beauty and demur of Asian ladies as opposed to western women so I get it. If you find a woman in the west who also makes money and you can work as a team to build your family and security, it is great. If you want to have a relationship where you are primary breadwinner, that can eventually lead to a lot of pressure on you. That is the downside to the 1950's illusion. I am rambling but you have touched on a subject that I have thought about a lot. I am reconsidering Thailand so I appreciate your info.

IN truth, even as a feminist I recognize, that women in general want to live up to what others say they SHOULD be or do. Most women really do want to have a simple stress free life, but they see people around them doing and having things and they envy them. As a result, they stress the men around them even though they know that what they are asking for is not really possible, at least not at that time. Just be honest and do what is your own best interest. As a woman, I just want to read and drink wine. That makes me happy. Why can't we all just do what makes us happy, no matter how small or large, and leave others and what they have and do alone???

100% agree with everything you said about the 1950s style here in Thailand. But it isn't just coming to Thailand that freaks westerners out, it includes escaping the UK for any reason or destination. In 1980 age 28 I went to work in the Middel East; no one goes there to meet women . But I got all sorts of critisism from the people who were too staid or scared to leave the UK for better pastures. In my experience there are lots of better pastures than the cold, wet, expensive, overtaxed, unfrienldy and everything banned, UK. Since then I worked all over the place including emigrating to the USA. Still I got told in the UK I was making a huge mistake and would likely get shot at a US gas station. The US is in my experience an infiinately better place to live and work than the UK. My point is that the stay at home type wil tell the traveler they are making a mistake whereevver they are heading for. Thai women have no bad attitudes and that makes them so wonderful as wives. My wife and I ended up when in the US avoiding about half of the wives of the guys we knew. The guys were great but the wives had horrible attitudes to both of us, and some turned on their husbands for being friends with us. Had some funny stories too in that respect. She is much younger than me, we have been together 16 years now and it is wonderful.

Many Brits, who are shockingly brainwashed by the media, have quite a vindictive attitude towards 2 ex colonies that surpassed the UK: the USA and Hong Kong. America has its problems, but over a decade ago, what did Brits say about the states? Poor infrastructure and public services (especially potholes), bad health care system, mass homelessness, shameful levels of poverty, oligarchs, a clown of a leader called George Bush. Well, look at the UK today. At least America remains the place to be, if you're an entrepreneur, leader in the arts, good scientist, etc. How about Hong Kong? Well, since the UK visa scheme was rolled, just over 100k came to the UK (WAY below expectation), and until recently around half were unemployed and the UK govt had to assist them. There was no major brain drain or capital flight. The affluent Hong Kong people know full well about life in the UK, stayed, and if they had to leave, they'll go to Canada, Australia or the USA.

The following comment is a generalization based on my experience. I have no bone to pick with feminism or manism (?) etc. My Thai wife works etc. I'm married to a Thai woman. I agree with a lot of what you say. Cautionary note, Thai women can be VERY child like. They want to be taken care of and it can get exhausting at times. Do not go into a Thai marriage/relationship with rose colored glasses. The foundation of your relationship is how well you take care of them, your children and yes their family. You lose your ability to do so, well you might find your self single again. Don't kid yourself. But you get less chirp out of them, they go along to get along (Mai pen rai), live generally in the present and don't marinate on the past (though they don't plan much for the future either), they're more feminine (they'll watch the game with you but they aren't going to try to be one of the boys or drink you under the table). With regards to Western women, the truth is they have their own money. Especially, educated Western women. They have their own earning potential. They don't need a man or his earning potential. So you as a man just aren't that essential. They know they can walk away at any time they want from a relationship for insignificant reasons and take half your shit because they have their own money and the state supports them in that manner etc. They want to party with their girls and be one of the boys but have kids and a career too. Mishmosh of competing wants. They marinate on the past, chirp about all manner of annoying shit in the present, and have anxiety induced panic attacks about the future. That's ok. They can have all of that and I can say no to wanting to marry it. I want something different and that's okay too. We can go our own ways. So in short a Thai relationship is not all roses but the alternative is maybe less appealing to some.

I have been marries to Thai lady for 17 years of relative marital bliss. And three reasons why I like Thai women is 1. Their natural feminity - the things that makes us as a species different. 2. The way they look after themselves and don't give up on their appearances once the get a ring on their finger. 3. The way they care for their man. This is something that has died a death since political correctness and the equality of the sexes began to plague our lives.
@AsAngelsSing

I Agee! Thai women are secure in being women. It has nothing to do with equality. Thai women do not see themselves as being lesser to men. It is just their role in life. Both partners can be equal but still have different roles. However, it is up to us men not to abuse those roles, which might be the reason why western women have abandoned them.

Yes, women like older men and men feel more in control but living in Pattaya means you are here for sex. Other places are as easy , you just need to look. Men get the best of both worlds, they are treated with respect and they get what they want, that’s why men go there.

If a man does want a house wife, I think they will be happy in Thailand. Thai people are generally very welcoming. I think it’s easier to unplug from the system in Thailand than in the UK though. Spot on mate. Thai/Asian woman still have values of our grandmothers, traditional and conservative. People of both sexes have a low opinion of girls from Asia. After meeting my misses and going back to Australia, one woman stated I heard you bought a wife, another male colleague, alluded to all Thai woman being prostitutes, my response was so you think 35 million woman are prostitutes, I told another female colleague what my wife does for me at home, I.E what a traditional wife did in the 50’s, she hit the roof and told me you want her to meet a few Aussie woman, to give her the low down, I just politely told her no thanks. The same woman liked to tell me about a former colleague that went to South Asia and bought a wife and kids back to Australia and he ended up sexually abusing the kids, so I guess she was trying to say I might to do the same. Who the fuck would want to go out with western woman, there’s is just a sense of entitlement, I had one chick, who broke up with me for not arguing with her and I imagine not giving her a bit of domestic violence. Then another one that ghosted me and when I started going out with my wife, contacted me and went bat shit crazy about why it never worked out between us. Anyway love your stories and the truth bombs, hopefully when this madness is over, I can get back to Thailand and eventually to live in the next couple of years. Western woman’s expectation of themselves are well and truely above what they really are, example fat, ugly with 5 kids and look down on you as a guy, because of some of your flaws, thinking they don’t have any. Asian expectation is to have a partner regardless of their flays and still love them regardless and treat them like a king.

Literally thinking about Thailand every day, the US has become a miserable cesspit. Currently visiting Peru but it feels too close to the US, I was desperate for a break from the mundane monotony of life in the US. I check the reopening situation every single day for the rest of the country as I’m not as interested in Phuket, I just can’t handle another 2 week quarantine.

I’m very appreciative that I’ve been in the USA since the pandemic. We haven’t lockdown or restricted freedoms like a lot of other countries have. If you were from the UK or Australia you would not have been able to go to Peru, they don’t allow their citizens to travel abroad right now. I did a walk through small town Ohio recently and the places and people were amazing. There is incredible scenery and places to go all over the US. Just tune out the media and all the political bs, it’s still a great country.

@@CheapCharlieChronicles My experience in the US is too heavily tainted by tragedy, I will probably always look at it through a grey lens unfortunately. The pandemic made me fully accept how little I have there aside from a few friends. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying it man. I really enjoyed travelling the country when I was younger, having visited around 2/3rd's of the states multiple times. It seemed easier when I had fewer adult responsibilities. At this point in my life, the only times I don't feel mired in the misery of my highly dysfunctional & toxic family are extended trips to Southeast Asia where there is no way for them to contact me. I'm hoping my next stint in SE Asia will be 1+ year(s). I am treated so well in Southeast Asia and have a ton of admiration, respect and love for the Khmer and Thai peoples. (I haven't been to Vietnam yet.) Many of them have seen actual hard times, unlike many Americans I encounter. It's really rare for me to experience entitlement in SE Asia outside of maybe a few upmarket districts, even then, that's stretching it.

Glad I just found your channel, you have convinced me to start seriously looking into moving over, have recently qualified in programming so should just go for it, have visited Thailand a few times and love the place, always had a ball there travelling solo, people are so nice. Once in kho samui I never planned getting from the ferry to mae nam, it was late so not much taxis around, but one woman just stopped and picked me up, brought me to mae nam, befriended me, introduced me to some friends, rented me a lovely motorbike for peanuts, and brought me off to a lovely buffet(a few times) I probably would never have known about and just just helped me any way she could. That's just one example, last time I was going north via udonthani and me with the worst sense of direction ever went the wrong direction to my guesthouse, a family stopped me and got their young son to drive me to my guesthouse on his motorbike, I gave him 300 baht but he really didn't want to take it, lovely people. Great channel, just subbed.

Brett... first time I have ever heard anyone echo my thoughts verbatim... "in the West, in order to compete with men, women behave like men." and I will go a bit further and say that this is THE reason why the western societies are becoming internally fragmented, needlessly competitive and entirely disconnected with the real issues. I have travelled extensively around the world and whenever I come back home, I feel like we don't live in the real world.

Getting that passport is a decision that you will be glad you made for decades to come. I originally got mine to do a study abroad in Israel and it totally changed my worldview. I realized that there was soooo much outside of the US to experience. I kept thinking during that trip, "I could totally live here, I could totally live abroad," and ended up making my first trip to Thailand in early 2018. I spent a month in Chiang Mai with the purpose of getting a wisdom tooth out. It was incredibly reaffirming; I was in a dark place at the time and it showed me a different side to life and honestly, it gave me hope for the future.

Men AND women come to Thailand for a variety of reasons. Western (especially American) women are largely unseen and nobody knows nor cares why we choose to live in Thailand. Here's a hint: a big factor is money -- especially savings. It's freaking expensive to live in America. If you are divorced, or a widow, there is NO safety net in the good old U.S. of A. It's sink or swim. Rather than sitting idly by and waiting for Prince Charming (with his loaded wallet, or so he claims) to scoop us out of financial hardship, some of us choose to charter a new course. Those intrepid females aren't feminists by choice necessarily. You gotta do what ya gotta do to survive...male or female. Not "woman power" or feminism. It's common sense to want to live a decent life and keep a roof over your head...and an added bonus if you have the courage to do it outside your own culture and comfort zone.

Excellent commentary Brett. I am so sick of trying to find a woman here in the west (Toronto Canada) I am now a MGTOW guy. There is an arrogance these women have and yes they are men with vaginas. I am no Brad Pitt but Im not bad looking, I own a home, car and go to the gym and no debt load. I find the women are so scared of getting with a man that is financially not their equal. They get their love from the little dogs they own and spend social time with other women, usually divorced. The money they have for a lot of these women is from the ex they divorced and she got the house, the cars and child support or alimony of both. When I first meet a lady on a date 9 times out of 10 she is sizing me up financially straight away. They want a GQ man who has the same wealth or more than them. They go out with these types and are used and dumped and they wonder why they cant find a stable relationship. These guys for the most part have no intention of getting serious and just want to have fun. I have friends that do this. Anyway I am done chasing these women and am selling everything and moving to Thailand in early 2022. You western gals will wake up one day wondering what the hell happened. You will be older and maybe still have your little dog to comfort you.

I'm a 26 year old woman and i do really enjoy your content. I disagree with a lot of what you have said here. But I understand the generalised thoughts you have put across. I think the west is changing rapidly. With equality of gender roles change is needed. Women aren't reliant on men anymore and men can feel insecure about this. But equally women find it hard in the west because we would like to stay at home and raise our children but we can't because we can't afford to stay at home. It's also unfair on a man to solely provide for a whole family in the west. He would have to work long and hard. So yes women do have to be more "like men". We want equality and you can't sit at home and rely on a man for it. If men want a more traditional role as a provider they should not begrudge the Thai women for "being money grabbers". At the end of the day the world is changing and we shouldn't be stereotyping anyone. People just want to be happy. I want to move to Thailand because I'm fed up of the Government fucking me in the arse with tax's and not being able to afford a house or to have a baby. If men want Thai wives good for them I say. If I was a man, i'd probably want a Thai wife. Live and let live. If i want hair arm pits let me be. If you guys are fed up of western women go ahead and pick Eastern women. We should just give less fucks about what other people think.

I agree with you Tabitha respect to you there’s a lot of good men in the west but most of them get ignored by western women which some of them become Incels or they find an alternative to try cure their loneliness like going to find an asian woman because they lost hope in their own country so they will look on the internet to find an answer to their solution.

I laughed and reminded them that I was already married :). Now, that said, in the four months and 4000-mile bike ride through Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, then down into Southern Thailand, I met the most wonderful women to converse with, and there wasn't one that I didn't see as feminine in traditional feminine roles. But hey, that's their choice, as it should be. Too blood hot and humid there though :)

Mate- I’m a non smoker so I can look at this from afar. Where else in the world can you drink beer and smoke at the same time as well as being surrounded by beautiful women. This has to be a major reason for many men to come to Thailand. They cannot do this in their home countries. I have seen it in bars in Pattaya, Chiang Mai and among expat communities in the provinces. It makes life diffucult for non-smokers like myself. Always getting smoked out at bars and restraurants. . A major drawback to life in Thailand.

My grandfather worked three jobs so that my grandmother could stay at home and be a housewife. I truly doubt that most men want to take on that type of responsibility in exchange of having traditional roles. The reality in the West is that both people have to work. If a Western man (with a Western income) goes to Thailand, he earns more than the top one percent so he can be that provider. Ask a local average Thai man if he would like to move to England and earn an average English salary but have 50/50 role with an English woman. I guarantee you that an average Thai man would gladly trade places with you.
