The street glide actually comes from a style of bike popular in California when people would strip an E Glide and remove a lot of extra parts and chrome, Harley noticed these were getting popular and then the street glide was developed and released.

The EG Standard took the place of the FLHS ( of which I have a 1991 ) made periodically from 1977- 1993. They used the FLHS format to make the Road King and upped the $. Then comes the Standard. Nothing wrong with a silver motor. They used that to denote entry level tour bike. Then they upgraded to the Street Glide. Yep, paint the motor, take off passing lamps, put a smaller front fender, and jack the $! Now I ride a 2009 Ultra, and took the pak off, unless I’m on the road. Personally I’m an EVO man. Best motor they ever built. I still ride my FLHS also.

I know you can buy oil coolers and love jugs and so on, but isold it and got a Roady instead. Still have a soft spot for the StreetGlide, but if I was gonna buy another faired bike, I'd choose the Road Glide.

I have a 2018 street glide special. I absolutely love it. It’s definitely a head turner. I used to get that when I had my Dyna. But not to this extent. But if you want to crush miles on and look good doing it. Street glide is where it’s at. It handles really good too. There’s certain things I think the Dyna did better with. But nothing that makes the street glide feel as big as it is. It also has a great lean angle. The Dyna street bob has more lean than almost every Harley. But the stuff I’d drag peg on with it. I haven’t touched the floorboards with the street glide. And I’ve been pushing it hard in the turns expecting it to scrape.

Hey brother fly buy wire was fitted from 2010 on the street glide "I had one" bad point - rear pegs are fitted to the frame and when having a pillion on board there toes dig into your calves when at stop so some pillion training required to move there feet back - but for cruising no problems.

In regards to the comparison between the Street Glide Special vs the Ultra Limited, I am in complete agreement with the styling points mentioned in the video, but I would like to throw in a little kudos for the handling of the Street Glide as well. I’ve owned several models of bikes by HD, and that includes 72’ shovel head, 72’ Sportster, 82’ Wideglide, 2016’ Breakout, 2019’ Deluxe, and now a 2020’ Street Glide. Each one having it’s own strong and weak points when doing serious travel. The Street Glide, thanks to it’s lower stance, is very agile, given that it has a lower center of gravity, cornering at a little faster speed is effortless and I feel comfortable and in control, which is of great importance since I drive in Colorado’s mountains alot in the summer. It is also great in high volume traffic areas in the city where stop and go is the norm. Nowhere near the heating issues I had in my shovelhead and breakout. Overall comfort on the Street Glide is exceptional and it is a well balanced bike, and you can add on all kinds of goodies to achieve the final look you want. I never really considered a bagger when owning my other bikes, but after buying one I realize that we’re always learning something new in the Harley experience, and I’m stoked about my Street Glide. Go get one, you won’t be sorry.

I have a 2014 and love it. Two main things to do them. First, cam, heads, air and map. Makes that 103 come alive. Mine specked out at 116lb torque and 103 hp. 100 torque at about 2000 rpm. Next and just as important, replace the rear shocks with something that can make the bike handle right. I put on a set of Terry Cable shocks. Same ride height but 1" more travel. I did not stop there. I changed out the front fork dampener but left the spring stock. Amazing the difference. Handling is a 10. Tight in the corners. Glides down the road. Might be a 'me too' bike, but I made it my own.

Well Sean this is how it started at least in my area. Younger People was buying the standard then take all the Crome and badging off then putting a short windshield on it and putting they’re own radios on them all for around 13 to 15,000. The motor company took that and ran with it... give the radio back. No crome and color options. Because the standard only came in black. Then marked it up to 25 to 30,000. Smart of the company but people should have demanded the cheaper standard with a color options because nobody keeps it stock. But it is all about the might dollar! Thanks for the vid bro...

So my girlfriend and I would be comfortable riding on long trips or even across town my intruder is not big enough for the both of us first bike I ever had with a fairing. After a few long trips I think the frame mounted fairing of roat glide would be better for wind and the wind turbulence from semi trucks. But I'm in to deep to get out of it it now. I had terrible buffeting on the Ultra Limited, I couldn't read road signs it was so bad, tried different size windscreens to no avail. Love the bike, but for the reason just stated, sold it. Surely H-D must do wind tunnel tests on their bikes, but mine rode like they didn't do aerodynamic testing/development, a shame, beautiful bike, but awful buffeting/riding. Since then, H-D installed vents in the fairings, maybe that helps.

A bit of a delayed response, but if it were me, I’d be looking into one of the maxi scoots: Suzuki Burgman, HondaSilverWing, BMW scooters , Yamaha Tmax, Piaggio and several others. brakes like a ten speed bicycle, on the bar grips. linked and ABS breaking since around 2007-8. Legs/ feet needed when stopping only, so a left , right or double leg amputation can be accommodated. Automatic shifting, so no clutching to be concerned with. A lot of storage under the seat. Great ride, great performance and relatively inexpensive to buy and operate. My experience is with the Burgman, 400 and 650, but all labels are good, the point is to be riding, wind in your hair and bugs in your teeth through a huge smile, it’s called wind therapy. Around town or all day travel down the interstate they are wonderful motorcycles,

I normally don't comment, but here goes. I have a 2011 streetglide, and mine did come with a tour pack. I installed the bars myself on mine. If you run the wires through the bars, it's difficult, but it's possible to do yourself. Still cost me about $1200 when all is said and done, and you still need to take it to the dealer to have your breaks bleed, if it has abs, as the dealer has the program and they haven't released the info to the aftermarket world yet. But it is possible to disconnect the abs system all together. Also a downfall for the newer bikes with abs is you have to have the dealer change your breakfluid every 2 years or your abs will break.

I test drove both. The RG is a much better bike. On a street glide, I felt the fairing is too close to myself making feel how narrow is the space between my chest and the fairing. On the RG, I feel more comfortable and feel much better than being on a SG.

Dude you have taught me a lot about bikes and I'm trying my best to get one, I use to have good credit but I spent a lot of money trying to help a addict get clean, Because at one time someone helped me.. Long story short I'm one year into ch.13, I have made all my payments on time and I have a good career and a decent amount down with reasonable payment.. I told you this all this to 1st to pray for the addict God is working on and to point me in the right direction to get a bike so I can tour God's Country..😎💪👆

Hey if Imma be honest if you want the most bang for your buck stay away from cruisers. Though if you like the cruiser style I recommend Indian over H-D, or maybe some of the Japanese manufacturers have a model for you

Now idk how I feel about a sg being good for beginner to intermediate riders, it’s quite a bit of bike for a new to novice rider. I started on a 500r ninja, jumped to a 883 sporty, then my friend let me ride her 06 sg…… it was slightly intimidating but manageable coming off the sportster….. been riding my Vtx 1300 for a few years now might have to take that glide back out on the next warm day.

i was at the love ride in 2004 in glendale. i was riding a limited edition fatboy at that time. next to me in our group was Bill Davidson, Robert Patrick and a few other notable HD dignitaries. Bill and I wandered off to check out some of the other bikes dotted all over the streets near glendale harley. at one point we came upon a whole group of Harley riders from a Cholo Club that had done some outrageous mods to their bikes. massive apes, super-long fish-tailed pipes, extended bags etc. SUPER CHROMEY! BUT!!! some members of the groups had adopted the SoCal lowrider style to their Ultra Classics. they had "smoothed" out the bike, by taking 99% of the chrome either off or had powered-coated it to match the skins color of the fenders, bags, tanks etc. some were lowered, but most looked like they had been "murdered" out before the term was used. Bill was blown away. He took a few pics, and as we walked back to the Rally Burgers and waited for the ride to kick-off, he said, they could do a factory version like those he had just witnessed. i remarked, if you build one like that, i'll buy one. so, around a year or so later, right after my fatboy had been stolen... i picked up the first street-glide in San Diego. added a detachable chopped tour-pak, screamin' eagle exhaust, and a few other mods and away i went. my first faired bike that Bill had said they would make. we must all thank the low-rider clubs of Southern California for the imspiration. the bike is still mine, it now has 85,000 miles on it. it's been ridden up the coast to SF many times, across the loneliest road, route 50 thru nevada, up to yellowstone, out to denver and back and it's still my daily commute bike as i pull the tour-pak off and cross into TJ daily for work. the TJ/SD border is easiest to cross on a bike. here's the inspiration for the bike. i.pinimg.com/originals/75/d2/c9/75d2c98911d53b4838a5b05c4081f6cc.jpg

What's a good step up from a honda shadow 750cc? I've had it for 2 weeks and I'm bored already lol. I like the comfort of it. I'm 5'8 and weigh 155. I can handle a little heavier of a bike, but not too much. Thanks, and God bless

Zachary John Calvin Adams Dynas weight in the mid 600 range but carry the larger engine. I went from a shadow to a 2017 low rider. The bike rides a lot different though with the rubber mounted engine. Huge step up in power and torque though. Softails come in mid 700 range. Be very careful about getting the larger v twin if you don’t have experience. Gain some experience on that shadow before getting a heavy more powerful Harley. You will wreck the bike if you are stupid.

Get what you like. I jumped from a damm sportster to a street glide. Hugh diffrence. But you only feel the weight when starting and low speeds. Once your doing 20mph you dont feel that heavy weight. I adjusted within a couple of weeks. So dont be afraid to get something ,and the graduate to something again. If you know how to ride, you can ride anything. Just take your time

I love the street glide. Personally I wouldn't do sportster ever again, so much more comfortable, great handling. Yes, you think it big and it does handle hood. But she hugs turns very well. Love the wind being blocked. How it happened to me,was my father has a ultra glide. I took it for a ride, I was hooked. Drives like a sporty Cadillac

I currently own a 2006 sportster and 2015 fz-09. I will likely sell both and buy a road glide. I think these bikes are popular because riders come to the realization sport bikes are nothing but trouble on public roads and as you get older your body can’t handle less comfortable platforms. My hips get strained after a half hour on the Fz.

I traded in my 2005 RK towards a 2011 Road Glide, not too happy with the wind bobbing my head around at 60mph! It does have the flared windshield and I had plans on changing it, but that in my opinion would make it worse? I had 3 Street Glides over the years and wish I still had them now! Sure, the Road Glide handles like a dream on the highway because of the fixed fairing, but your head isn't quite as rigid and it makes for a miserable ride! KEEP YOUR STREET GLIDES!

The major problem with a street glide is the wind buffering hitting the batwing fairing. The road glide is where it’s at IMO. Less of a workout for long rides as the fairing is fixed to the frame and takes all the wind. That and they look better imo.
