It didn't fail, it actually had great success. But people just got bored. Also the lockout was an issue - 3 days was way too much raiding especially if you had alts ; on the other hand, 7 days is boring especially if you do nothing else on the side - Incursions were.. just badly done

i dont play classic, retail, private or any other server... but how exactly did it fail? Whats your metric? Im sure it did just fine... OSRS compared to RS3 might be a different story of success, but when you fragment the playerbase this is exactly what you get... i wouldnt call it a faulure?

its not dead... Its a level up phase.. p4 all the numbers will come back as thats where all the content is. ppl are getting it backwards

If you baked a cake years ago, adding some icing to it now doesnt automatically make it nice and fresh again.

Personally I feel anything really competetive feels very not classic, because if you have something competetive, you also have to balance all the classes in everything. I am fine with some classes being shit at some things as long as they are good in something else. I am okay with warriors being worthless alone compared to anybody else, as long as I get to be the PVE damage god In a group. Thats also why I think Arena and Rated BGs are a bad idea and I would personally love them to remove raid logging. It doesn't effect me much because I literally only raided with my friend group in SoD, but I don't think Classic should be sweaty leaderboards. In phase three the only problem I had with getting the runes is how uninspired it was. For warrior, two of the runes were literally just killing a singular mob in Feralas. The gladiator stance rune is the only one that had a fun questline. Alsoy the runes themselves were pretty boring (except gladiator stance). In phase one and two you had some very cool quests for your cool abilities like Divine Storm or metamorphosis and these runes were extremely impactful. The quests were also just "get am Item here then go there and then there" but it was with some context and it made sense and it was fun, because you had to bring some friends to kill level 30 demons.

The idea of sod is great, making vanilla classes more powerful is not wrong. We just need to send aggrend to Diablo 4 team, and hire someone who know wow classic to improve the game

There was many great stuff and bad stuff, for me what made me quit was p3, as a guild officer making raids with 20 players after raid logging p2 for 2 months? no thanks

I actually think phase 2 was pretty bad and the start of the downward spiral. I don't think leveling fast was an issue at all either, I don't think people in a seasonal version of Vanilla really want to grind out levels. I think incursions were great at the start, leveling off the rip was great, I just think that incursions being our only content with wild offerings outside of raid was dog shit. I do agree with runes, they got super super lazy after phase 1 with them. PVP rewards, and PVE rewards are pretty bad right now.

Because it’s unstructured, inconsistent, uninformative, and too similar to a parent product that I’m sure doesn’t feel great for new players.

Cata Classic is coming so people go there to play + ST is over and boring mostly so people are raidlogging only and not doing anything else, they need to bring P4 faster thats all. Nothing more and nothing less, this is how it was in P1 and P2..... videos were all over the place "SOD IS DEAD" in those phases as welll..... jesus gets my blood boiling.
