I have been reloading for 54 years and currently have dies for 24 calibers. I have Hornady, Lyman, Lee, RCBS, Redding, die sets. Lee seams to be the first in the market place with new calibers, .350 legend and .360 Buckhammer. I find their products to be durable, accurate and innovative. If I had to buy a set of dies today, I would look to LEE first.

I've used Lee dies exclusively. I've loaded .40 S&W, .38spl, .223, 25/06, 30-30, 7mm/08, and 9mm luger. Bought my first set and saw no reason to change after that. I have reloading gear and presses by Lee, RCBS, Hornady, and maybe a few more companies, but have only used the Lee dies. They work.

Had an old timer that I worked with who reloaded and got me started. Went shopping with me, and I bought a Lee Turret press, 30-06 dies, and starter kit, funnels, lube, powder scale, etc. Used IMR powder and Gameking bullets, green poly Spitzer rounds! Bought in bulk at the factory in Sedalia, MO. after taking plant tour! That was cool to see how they made ammunition. Bought bullets as 2nds in barrels. Had minute pieces of copper wire on ends, which were easily taken off. Believed, I bought Winchester nickel plated brass and CCI primers to start loading. They were the prettiest cartridges, by my hand, when I loaded a tray up with the first 60 rounds!😊 Didn't want to shoot them for a while. Just look at them, all standing upright like little soldiers! Eventually, I did, and they shot good groups. That fall shot 1st buck with them! Sadly, all my Reloading equipment somehow disappeared when I divorced from first marriage!😢 Have not been able to get all I need due to price increases since the beginning of covid horse flip, which almost seems like one needs to lay out $$$ for the cost of a good rifle, scope combo in today's vernacular! My rifles now are 7mm Remington Mag and 6.5 PRC. Also, I have two 9mm pistols that I'd love to reload for all. But, I have to pay bills and keep on getting by. At least wife, I'm married to now likes firearms, and if I saw the chance to get back in Reloading, she'd have no problem with it as she has her own guns! Former Sheriff's Deputy. Got lucky 2nd time around! 😊

Hey Jon! Well that’s one heck of a rodeo you’ve been through! Yeah the price of all the reloading equipment, cost of primers, if you can find them and other items needed, I wonder if it’s even worth getting back into reloading. That’s great that your wife likes to shoot, makes buying new firearms a little easier. Lol! I was getting brass from my range and would tumble it. I am now all out of brass and I really don’t want to pay the high prices. I would love to tour an ammo production facility. Sounds like a good time. Thanks for keeping in touch! PA

Started reloading back in 1986 when I bought a Colt 1911. I used a Lee single stage press with a 3 carbide die set. Needless to say, that setup produced over 10,000 rounds in the next year and a half. I bought another set of dies for .45 Long Colt and have done many thousands of 250 grain LRN loads for a Colt SAA and a Uberti Henry rifle. I have told everyone that the dies do the job that they are meant to do. Give you good ammunition for shooting.

I have several Lee products and while they may not be the highest quality in the industry, their warranty is top notch and will replace or refund your purchase if you have any issues. I've had more good luck than bad and will continue to buy their products if they have something I need. I've even joked with their customer service about how many decapping rods I've broken and they replaced every single one of them for the cost of shipping. Good review!

I’ve had RCBS, Redding, and Hornady dies and between Hornady and Lee dies I think I’m good to go. All of my Redding and RCBS dies have rust and have not been very durable, as well as caused many stuck cases even with proper amounts of lube. Lee pistol dies are awesome and I would not hesitate to get their rifle dies to try out for the price.

Thank you for watching my video and commenting! I really appreciate it! Yes I just never saw the reason to go with the more expensive dies when the LEEs work just fine. Also they were in my budget. I reload 556 and 30 30 and have no problems. I deer hunt with 30 30 and I can really fine tune each round. I also get very consistent groups with the rounds that I load. I haven’t reloaded in awhile due to primers being so expensive. I had a local gun shop near me, really small little place but packed to the hilt. Unfortunately the owner passed away and they shut down shop. Now I’m stuck with cabelas. Anyway thanks again for watching. PA

In my view, the best die set is compromised of individual dies from different makers. Lee die lock rings are the best in the business. There is no force or pressure exerted on the die lock ring. It doesn't have to be made out of steel. Aluminum is fine. It uses an o-ring so a tiny set screw is not needed. Just remember to loosen the die by turning the lock ring, not the die itself. Lee shellholders are the worst in the business. Once in awhile they are not machined flat across the bottom and the lips are too loose. I once dropped a case into my AMP annealer because it fell out of the sh. It didn't slide out through the opening but fell right out. The Lee neck collet die is arguably the best invention in all of reloading and is perhaps the reason it is featured on the cover of the Lee reloading manual. Thanks for sharing!

I've had dies from every manufacturer including defunct antique dies. Although I do still use some RCBS and Lyman dies LEE dies are the best. They're designed so much better and friendlier to use. I do wish they'd done some things differently, but I understand why they didn't. Newer reloaders don't have a clue that every brand of dies on the market today have copied Richard Lee's dies in one form or another. Heck just look at how older dies reloaded pistol ammo as in order of operation/function...Glad Richard came along and simplified it for us...and the other manufacturer's making dies. That being said there will always be a need for something different and all the manufacturers need our support to exist. Everyone that loads lead bullets should have handy Lyman's fantastic (M) dies for each caliber and bullet diameter he or she assembles whether it's always needed or only on occasion as it does exactly what it was designed to do and allows the bullets to seat perfectly straight and as far as RCBS goes...well there's absolutely no better customer service in this business...not even the blue boys can touch them in that department and the quality of control is exceptional! so yeah I think LEE dies are the most ingeniously designed dies for everyday use, but every manufacturer has something we all need and that pours over into their casting departments as well.
@pareloader5989

Thank you so much for your comments! I totally agree with you. LEE does make great dies but the other manufacturers do have something to offer as well, just not at LEEs price point. I have heard about RCBS and there customer service. They even pay for shipping! That’s something that LEE doesn’t do. They will fix or send you a new part but the shipping is on the customer. I really appreciate you taking the time to write such a great comment. My KZfaq channel is pretty new and is slowly growing. I try to put content out there that I hope helps people. @@stephenbaker7499 Actually they don't... their no bs warranty is bs compared to RCBS. Just ask enough people that have dealt with both companies. Anyone can make a statement or a claim, but that doesn't make it a fact. It doesn't matter the color though as long as they've taken care of you when you need them to. I'm personally not a fanboy of any of them over the past few decades I've owned and used something from everyone and all of them have had good enough customer service, but RCBS csd is on another level entirely...hmmm so maybe I am an RCBS fanboy...IDK...

I'm not saying RCBS is no good,,, I've had dealings with all of them first Hornady they ask you all kinds of questions how why did it happen and then maybe they will help you or replace an item that you had a problem with RCBS is a fine company I had the larger version of the rock chucker from the '60s I believe it was either the A4 or the a2 model they took it back and gave me a brand new one have no problem with RCBS Lee products are good products but not great products like their Lee safety scale is a real pain to operate it just isn't as good as other offerings out there Dillon, doesn't ask any questions if you got a problem they will fix it without question,, when it comes to reading dies I've had minor problems with some of their products and they have helped me whenever and wherever they could I have no problem with running whatsoever The decapping pins from Lee you got to buy by the truckload because you are going to break them.. That's just a fact you could be a fanboy of whatever you want it does not matter to me, I own a multitude of products from all of these companies we all pick and choose what works and what doesn't we don't buy it's that simple.

They all make quality dies. Lee is definitely the least expensive. I don't like their bullet seaters though. On rifles I only want a good competition seater dies. On those I have only two brands Redding and Forster. Forster is the original competition seating die that is most copied supporting the whole case before seating begins. If people are looking to pay less usually you can purchase the Forsters for less than the Redding's. They both work equally well.

I have a large variety of dies for a great variety of calibers. I have put together some very nice ammunition on all of them. I have not found Lee dies to be any less quality in function at all. Comparing standard sets to standard sets. Obviously a person pays $300.00+ for extreme high end dies match grade die sets, you expect much tighter tolerances and precision. After all that is usually where cost lies is the precision of machining. That said, a very careful handloader can produce some extremely accurate ammunition on very basic die sets also. This brand stuff is much like Ford, Chevy, Ram guys arguing over whose pickup is better. In reality if you have excellent skills you can produce very nice accurate ammunition on all of the brands of dies, Lee included. They are excellent and economical allowing many folks to participate in a terrific hobby where they otherwise might not get that opportunity financially.

Does anyone know: does using the Lee undersize die obviate the need to also use a bulge buster die to eliminate the Glock bulge? I now use an aftermarket barrel on my G20, but I do have brass fired through a Glock barrel, so I’ll need to clean that brass up & resize to obtain a round that will properly chamber. @oldgunowner
@oldgunowner 4 ай бұрын
The undersized die doesn't size any lower than the regular sizing die. Your bulge problem is below that area. The only real way to fix the problem is to resize the entire base of the cartrage down to and including the extractor flange. That's what the bulge buster does. If the extractor flange is not out of round I have successfully eliminated the bulge in casings by resizing the case with the normal resizing die. To do this you need to resize the case normally using the resizing die with the primer pin removed then remove the case from the shell plate and place a piece of flat metal in top of the shell plate set the case on the metal and run the case up into the resizing die again. This will resize the case farther down the case removing the bulge. The problem with this is you now need to have a small punch to tap or push the casing out of your sizing die. Be sure that before you do this you disassemble and check that your sizing die has enough internal clearance to allow you to press your casing far enough into your die. Good luck.

@@oldgunowner I totally understand what you’re saying. I have had similar issues also. I would prep my brass and reload it, and when I put it in the case length gage right near the base of the casing it would sometimes get hung up there. About every 20 casings. Very frustrating.

We deal in precision, so I very much appreciate when someone can be precise with their articulation of a process. Thanks again for your help. See you out there…Cheers

I have many sets of Lee dies. Many dating back to the early 1980s. I have never broken a decap pin on a Lee die. I've even punched through some crimped primers and completely through a handful of Berdan primed cases that slipped through my inspection. I've worn out a few decap pins but they've never broken. I cannot say that about the green boxed dies I own. I have 100K+ rounds through my 9mm set and it still gets used often and still meets spec for sizing. I traded away from the green boxed dies in several handgun calibers and 2 rifle calibers to go to Lee dies. I have full faith in the Lee die quality. I use a few of the Lee Presses as well.
