@@CalicoSkiesSailing Bill's battle with the boobies made me laugh. I can appreciate his frustration. No one wants bird poo all over their boat but poor boobies are in the middle of the ocean.

Hi folks. Just found your channel, and calling in from Nz...have subscribed. Just a quick tip I found works. To keep cool in the Pacific Ocean heat, wearing a white t shirt doesn't really help. And even though being naked feels great, believe it or not, it's not the answer either. The ideal method is to soak your t shirt in fresh water, then put it back on. This system keeps you cool a lot longer than wetting your skin with seawater. For every 5 litres of fresh water you make, take out half litre and place in a lidded bucket. Keep doing that until you have about 2litres of fresh water. Btw, you can buy soap specifically formulated for salt water bathing. And dish washing liquid, that is easy on the skin, is great for washing hair in combination with salt water. There's always a risk the water maker can break down, that's why you need alternatives. Ok i see I have some binge watching to do, so as its raining, I have an excuse to stay inside. Thank you for sharing guys. Take care.

Some long passage videos can be quite monotonous but you guys nailed it. Just the right mix of information, story telling and sailing. I especially liked the scene where Bill is putting up the kite, having to un-knot the lines etc..., great bit of editing there. You got the feel for the process at hand without being snooze inducing. Well done!

So glad Bill is a fixer. You have to be a fixer to be on a sail ⛵. Maybe do a video on a recap of the 10 best upgrades to Calico which impacted the quality of your lives. Blessings

INFO NYLON is HYDROPHILIC or likes WATER: This I discovered at the end of FERMI II construction as an electrician The construction was over many years and I noticed the old nylon tie wraps would crack like dry macaroni. In my curiosity, an engineer explained, if you boil the dry nylon for an hour or more, it will become soft again. Haven't tested the information, but with your year in the dry desert air with the sail in storage, the widespread failure matches that your sail got really thirsty! ❤ Thanks for the images of the Pacific deep Royal Blue; which I loved on our ship back from India. Oh! In rough weather, ping pong was even more challenging, as one would send the ball up hill against the opponent. A true ping pong demonstration of RELATIVITY: in a stronger storm, I had a high ball to slam the other side. I hit it hard, to see my straight slam, curve and go out the open port hole. That was how fast the ship rolled over my straight slammed ping pong ball! Needless to say, that was a freeze moment that we silently looked at each other in disbelief! That was the summer of 1964, when travel by ship was common. Navy 🇺🇸 veteran, Atlantic to Mediterranean with NATO many times, 2 squadrons, 3 ships, NAS Roosevelt Rhodes, Puerto Rico & helicopter crewman (3 yrs, 2 months sea duty out of 4 years). Wanted me to ship over with rank advancement, $8,000 to station in Antarctica. Figured there was a girl behind every tree, but discovered Antarctica doesn't have any trees. So, I go out of the Navy to marry a woman colder than Antarctica! 💕

Awesome passage. @9:44 that’s those gorgeous calico skies! As for the Code Zero, it’s a fantastic sail, but you end up using them so much that their light weight is their downfall. They age faster than other sails because they see lots of use while just being made of parachute nylon, whereas your Genoa, Main, and Working Jib are UV-resistant Dacron.
@CalicoSkiesSailing
@CalicoSkiesSailing Ай бұрын
That’s exactly it with the sail, will be more of a wear item than Dacron. We could have gone polyester or laminate for the new one but we’d be sacrificing light air performance

What a change technology makes. From praying that 3 days of cloud cover would break, so I could get a noon shot. To AI plotting your boats sailing characteristics in real time. That is so neat. The Gordian knot at the end of your spinnaker pole was interesting. Maybe some small stuff lashed to the pole to separate and hold the coils in place?
