Once you become a Toyota guy, there is no going back. It’s like owning a classic Mopar from the 60s… There’s no way to describe that kind of feeling to someone who doesn’t have one. Toyota truck owners in particular all share a massive kinship and have an old school spirit of adventure.

Picked up a 1999 Tacoma sr5 from Georgia. 5 speed, 125 thousand miles , No rust, solid frame for $2000. Put on new tires , alignment and some serious cleaning, waxing. There is a lot more engineering in a Toyota 4x4 than just the engine. The entire design of the vehicle is all still Toyota. Same wheel base, same suspension geometry, same everything, except with more power. Whooptie doo.
@mromatic17
@mromatic17 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnnychimpO907 once you quadruple the horse power and put a huge lift and tires you basically have to reengineer the whole suspention too otherwise you'll run into problems. so the whole drivetrain and how it rides and handles aren't toyota anymore. now your asically left with the body and frame as the only toyota shit left!

Bought my ‘94 80 series as a lease return in ‘97 here in LA. Joined a newsgroup out of Australia while I was doing research and over the next 10 years learned almost everything there is to know about 80 series from this group. Then in 2011 I was brought down to Sydney to work on a film. The newsgroup was pretty much dormant as they had mostly moved to 100 series. I sent an email and they all chimed in, set up a reunion and took me on a short trip to the Wattigans. Great to meet them after all those years. Still have my 80 series.

The thing you need the most from that TLC specs is the anti rust coating on the chassis, which is powder coating. Then maybe the full floating axle and some minor mods for driving comfort. You could do it slowly. You almost certainly dont need the ls3 engine swap, the locking diffs are a waste if you dont go offroad often. Sound proofing, you can do it yourself. Haha. Bigger fuel tank, you can always bring a few jerry cans with you.

DONT - it totally ruins them. The joy of the Mita [MX6 over here] is the balance and fun to drive. If you stick a big lump up front they stere like a pig and you cant get that power down anyway as there is no weight on the back end. Just have the existing block professionally rebuilt to the speck you want and maintain the balance.

My dad had an early 90s Toyota 2D pickup and I loved that truck so much in my adolescence. I honestly wish we still had it (I love Toyota). Sometimes, making financial decisions that give us jubilance and happiness can't be rationalized, but that's not necessarily always a bad thing. Btw, I really liked the editing in this video, awesome content!

The spirit of this video is felt where I live and work in Bali, where old Land Cruisers, Daihatsu Taft (Rocky) and Suzuki Jimny (Samurai, Katana) never die; parts are readily available; and mechanics do good work even if under the shade of some trees. My own daily driver is a 1988 Suzuki Katana (Jimny) that is mechanically fully restored but with some “patina” on the body. I will probably never sell it. Thanks for this video.

I had a Samurai. I loved driving it so much but the soft top leaked in the rain and the carburetor wouldn't stop having problems even after a rebuild. I eventually got tired of the cost of constant repairs so I had to sell it. I hope I can drive a Samurai again some day.

I enjoy that for approximately 15 minutes, I can forget my day to day life and for this short period become fully immersed and invested in the story that The Spirited Man tells. I thank him for that. BTW wanting a certain thing, even if it is an expensive thing, does not make it a greedy desire for you know it's value and understand the costs.

Was on the TLC tip years ago, 10 years ago, completely obsessed with FJ 55's and FJ 60's - searched the internet for days on end for unicorns - dreamt of an off-frame restoration, put it aside, and just this year bought a 1995 RRC because the heart wants what the heart wants and I finally had the money

If anyone is a vintage car or truck enthusiast and you don't dedicate as much time learning how to fix it yourself as you do loving the thing...sell it. Fixing and improving it is half of the fun of ownership. You can build it.

I had an FJ40 in college (named Lola, as college students are inclined to give names to the objects of their love. Lola Granola.) The love was real, but she was tempestuous, as young love often is. Now an unnamed yet faithful and true FJ Cruiser. Landcruiser love is real. Hold the one you have.

This particular Spirited Man has a personal journey to leave the slavery of the bits, and return to the analog, to the tangible ... to the real. Like when things were not instantaneous and everything had its times and processes. And if this road is full of spare parts, it is a price that I am willing to pay. Thank you Van for waking up my iner Spirited Man.

Dad had a 60 series Sahara growing up as a kid, I still remember the brown interior and smell of it. Dad drove me around the block on he’s lap and let me help him steer what I thought to be a monster truck (I was 4 years old). I’d get driven to and from school in it and we went on many small adventures. I remember standing next to the wheels and they were as big as me! It blew a head gasket one day and sat in our front yard for years til a younger guy offered to buy it. We had bought a tarago in the meantime so we didn’t need it. He sold it to the young guy and it got towed away… I’m 21 now and have been reminiscing on the old girl. This year I decided to buy an 80 series diesel LandCruiser and have spent all my savings fixing it up! I don’t really care about money at this point, I’m going to drive it up and down the east coast of Australia and enjoy the hell out of it. I’ve already had some memorable moments with it and It’s so awesome to own one of these… I truly enjoy it every time I turn the key. They are awesome trucks and I can’t wait to keep it for many years and hopefully try my luck with a 60 series one day! Like father like son. Let the adventure begin!
