virtual ram expansion really makes a difference in budget hones with 4gb ram and less. As you said its a cheap marketing technique when it comes to mid range and above phones.

Virtual ram is Swap memory , Os uses swap memory which is stored on your hdd/sdd to store Ram files . It does'nt affect much but of your power on time is high like phone is not turned off in 1 week then you'll see a slightly better RAM performance .

The thing is ur phone never uses above 8 gb ram at max....so no point in taking virtual ram

Only static apps remains in virtual ram & it will be noticeable on 4gb ram phones or lower

Whatever you restart the device to take effect it does'nt work...because storage can't take place of a real ram. The ram in our phones are very fast..even if the storage type is fast like UFS 3.1 or 3.2 still it will not work like ram!

In low budget like redmi or realme phones, the virtual RAM doesn't work. If you enable it it will just enable without asking for reboot. However in mid-range or high-range phone which support virtual RAM will ask you to reboot your phone just after enabling it. And it works.

It helps in some cases like i have a locked app in recent and sometimes it gets closed and that is really frastating but after turning on virtual ram it helps a little bit to keep that app awake in background. But then also i will not suggest this v.ram since then also after around an hour it shuts down the app.

I was using this feature in 2013 by rooting Android and expanding RAM by using memory card memory. There was an app called Swapper which expands the RAM upto 4gb.

Well if you have like 8gb on board ram then its almost useless. Using virtual ram means that the phone will die quicker. I mean that the storage has a limit of operations after crossing the barrier like. In iPhone and Macbook if i have 128gb iPhone then it can perform 128000TB operations and after that the ssd will die completely. But this virtual ram will kill the phone even more quicker. As for example imagine your 500 mb has been taken from storage for the extra ram then it will once go 300mb,400mb,200mb and etc. then the storage would get wear down more quicker. I have my iPhone 13 with 128gb and i have touched liked 900gb of usage out of 128000TB.

Actually original ram read write speeds are far better than rom speeds that’s why virtual ram doesn’t works but this statement is only for mid range or lower devices because premium devices comes with ufs 4.0 storage which is still slower than their ram but still very fast to work as a ram.

Virtual Ram is not totally a gimic in my 4 gb ram phone i use aethersx2 to play ps2 games but it used to crash a game dragon ball z 3 but when i used vertual ram it lags but everytime eventually comes back it does not crash like privious times.

Bhai mera samsung me RAM switch kar sakte hai between 4GB and 2GB, iska matlb Physical RAM 2GB hai sirf. Usme likha hai 4GB choose karne pe storage se 2GB gayab ho jaega. Matlb Maine 14k deke phone liya jisme 2GB physical RAM hai?
