As a former lecturer at a university with many international students, I would like to share my experience: Low quality - the casual teaching is quite low paid, so many tutors are PhD students or just newly graduated. They often have no teaching experience or training - the only requirement for university teaching is to have one degree above the level you teach. This actually also makes it hard for experienced academics to find a job, as it's cheaper to pay a PhD student for five hours casual teaching per week than employ an experienced teacher/academic full time... Group assignments - there is often pressure to give group assignments to help weaker students pass. I hated group assignments as student but also as lecturer for the reasons you describe. Cash cows and low quality classmates - this contributes to the language problem you mentioned, as many people are accepted for the sake of profit, but do not have enough language to be successful. This was one of the hardest parts for me when I was an academic, as I was very conscious that this was unfair to everyone in the class. High quality students are held back from being challenged, but low language students struggle to grasp the basic knowledge. It is difficult to teach to such different levels of capacity. Someone always misses out. Also, for anyone struggling please know that even in the exploitative system there are lecturers who genuinely care about international students, and want to help you regardless of your reasons for enrolling. Please don't be afraid to ask for help, assessment clarification, extension work (if you don't feel challenged in class), or advice about the industry or working in Australia.

Thanks for sharing. I have never been in Australia, aside from virtual and books experience. As far as teaching languages is concern, it all depends: if specializing in grammar; I would agree with you. Other than that, I could argue that it might be a matter of having gotten used to "going from A to B strategy"; however, it has been more than half a century since research has found, has proven, and has spread knowledge about language teaching methodologies. Research has generated methodologies that mandates the way you don't seem to like.

@10:26 I believe that is what we call a critical summary. It’s a skill you learn when in university …or before depending on where you grew up and went to school. It’s very logical for your professors to give you a 50+ page reading and ask you to submit a two page paper on the topic. They expect to see and help you develop your critical analytic skills. It should not be confusing. If you need help, just ask I’m sure they would help❤️ That being said, I do not think that is a valid point for your video lol

I'm an international student studying in Australia for my master's degree. I would say Australia is not a good place for studying for two reasons. 1. Expensive Tuition Fee 2. Quality of Education. The truth is people study in Australia for immigration. Australia is a perfect place for working if you can find a job. You'll get paid very well if you work in the mining industry, like 20K per year. Being an Asian in Australia makes it harder to fit in. I would highly recommend anyone who wants to pursue their higher degree to study in the U.S. or Germany. Been there, done that. I really wish someone has told me this before. 😢

As a domestic student in Australia, I do agree a lot of my lecturers in courses just have a monotone and basically read directly from their lecture slides which is just copy and pasted from the textbooks. I’m taking part of a programme at my uni that helps non-English speaking students communicate like Australians do. Also, teamwork projects, at my university, they make you fill out a form of who participated in the project and what parts they did, etc.

Thanks. I'm Indonesian. FYI, many Indonesians dream of and are proud of studying in australia due to the "prestige", including me in the past. I got an offer for PhD from an australian univ, but I decided not to proceed because the offer didn't come with scholarship. There was a chance to apply for my government's scholarship, but fortunately I didn't do so. If I did so, I may be feeling guilty now for spending huge amount of money for not-as-displayed-in-website education.

One of the most stressful thing that I’m facing now is the assessment requirements and criteria for evaluating it… Teachers are asking for creating things that they don’t teach, and then they come up with comments about that you work is “Not Yet Satisfactory” ????? When you are referring books/research paper/scientific magazines, and they are asking for personal interpretation of the content and create tools for applying that from scratch… I really don’t get it… I’m so frustrated at the moment and I really need someone to guide me at this point, otherwise I will give up.

Some of the comments are right but many others based on generalization, if u studying in a low quality university u can’t expect getting the best education, there are many Internetional ranking to know the University’s quality, RMIT 15 in Australia, Victoria uni 27, it is what it is
@HopKiwiTravel
@HopKiwiTravel 3 жыл бұрын
I studied on rmit, which is considered prestigious. But any way, did you know why those uni are high or low in the rankings? Not because of better quality but numbers of researches they conduct. So basically unis with more students = more money =more research = higher in the rankings but not necessarily good at teaching.

Hi, yes cash cows doc is unfortunately very true. Every 3 months one student commit suicide here. That tells a lot. Like I said, I would NEVER recommend studying in Australia unless for migration purposes. But then go for the cheapest unis or TEFE you can. No one care here about a university degree. It's not a society that values university degrees. You will find here managers with just high school and some small courses, but no degree. It's because Australia value experience and personality.

It seems you have no clue, a video blogger that is ridiculous comments, talking about low quality, and disrespecting people form different backgrounds because of their accents. Get off your high horse. 1. Low Quality You get to choose the Education Institution like you get to choose a restaurant; dont think because you pay for fast food you will get a Michelin class restaurant. 2. Group Assessment Low Quality because they don't speak English. All those people who you had speaking on the video, were speaking in English, and if you think because they were not fluent or because they had an accent it was low quality, you should listen to yourself speak before you judge and mock others. So you think that in a Group Assessment you are going to be doing all the work and they will get the same mark, when it is more likely that the group will do the majority of the work and you will get the marks. How perthitic is your comments and view of others! 3. ATM You don have to pay or study, no one is forcing your hand. You have many other place to choose including in Poland. Unfortunately you are studying to get qualification so you can get work and earn money, get paid. What is the difference, are you also and not ask others to be an ATM for you? 4. Confusing Teaching Methods Throughout your video, you were nothing but a hypocrite, is that confusing enough! So for you European who are going to come and study English here it might be confusing because of some US Researchers. What hole did you pull your ridiculous information out of. Have you though it might not be the Education System that is the issue, but it might be you? Statements you make are contradictory. I can understand how you can find it confusing to write 10 pages in 2 or 3 pages, as it took you 13 minutes to say something that you could have said in 30 seconds in the video, without adding all the bull in between. 5. Work Limitation So if it is so hard and so bad and everything else, then why did you chose to do another course in Australia? Not only did you come here to study, but you decided to stay and then chose to do another course. And let’s not discuss when you are allowed to work more hours. This is absolute worst bullshit video, Really Really!. Nothing positive, nothing constructive, and you provide no alternatives. As you said "For me its quiet not fair to pay so much and get so little" but you decided to stay and are doing a second masters. You are a Hypocrite! You give people the advice not to come but state "I am doing my Second Master. So for others Maybe it’s not worth, but for you it is, and then say because you can not afford but still you are doing a second masters. Excuse my poor English, but I gave you a thumbs down, and I suggest everyone do the same because you and your video are insulting.

To be honest, if she were that good of a student, she would have gotten into the best universities, not some random one. If her friend went to Melbourne University instead of Melbourne Polytechnic University, he would have a completely different experience. She has chosen low ranking bad uni (because it was her only option) and then expect to have best education 🤣 Regarding English point , good unis such as University of Sydney, Melbourne, UNSW have high English requirement. For example, the minimum IELTS for uni of Sydney is 7! Which is more than than 90% of top UK unis All Russell group ask 6.5 ,Only Oxford and Cambridge ask for 7.5 in the whole UK.

Hi, check my other comment on your question, but in general, if you don't want to stay here do not come to study. And if you want to stay do not come to big cities like Melbourne, Sydney, etc because you will have little to no chance of staying. Go to regional like Gold Coast, Perth, Darwin, etc. And never to big unis like Melbourne uni because those are just money-making machines and you will not learn much. For your course, you could check TAFE tafeqld.edu.au/courses/index.html? but again, if you don't want to stay for good, don't bother. and if yes, check SOL list, check if your course leads to PR or long to medium-skilled visa. otherwise, choose a different course.

@@aman-qx7sd hi, only 3 countries in Europe provide free education and only to the smartest candidates. one of them is: Poland, and my uni but you need to speak Polish or better English. Germany is not free. but much cheaper than Australia but you need to speak German or at least very good English. analysing your grammar from your writing I would say that you must improve a lot or you will struggle in Europe or in Australia. another thing is that the entrance exams are difficult and I do not know how is your high school in India but in Europe, you need to pass exams at the end of high school and only the best get to the uni. Education in Europe is much different than in Australia. There is no bullshiting, cheating or giving second chance. So you really need to be smart to pass from class to class but there is a good thing about that system: YOU will actually learn something! :D so if you will manage to graduate and learn german then for sure there is a big opportunity for ECSE. another thing is that Germany is now shifting and is not so open anymore on migrants, after 2016 New Year's Eve sexual assaults in Germany by men of non-European origin on German women. so people from Asia and the middle east are not so welcome anymore, anywhere in Europe basically. in terms of money, it all depends on your lifestyle so I can't help with that. simply check rent price and google cost of living coz big cities are more expensive than the small ones.

Don't be fool. Australia is the only country that don't recognized their own qualifications. After graduation, International students got a shock to find that their internationally recognize Australian qualification is not recognized by Immigration. When you apply for a resident visa, Australia immigration will require you to have your Australian Qualification assessed by a skill assessment Authority against Australian Qualification Framework. Sound silly but its true. All the while you thought yr qualification were fully recognized under CRICOS. But Sorry its NOT. And You have to pay for the skill assessment. And there is hardly any advantage except that they give you a pitiful 5 pts in their pt system if they recognised yr Australian Qualifications.
