The Reason Behind Our Decision Not to Make Hard Bottom Back Seat Extender Covers!

This video discusses why we haven't made a hard bottom back seat extender cover. These are popular on Amazon right now. We are evaluating whether or not we are comfortable making these covers due to the warning in most vehicle owner's manuals that you should not add more than 6 - 7lbs of weight to the seat back.

Tell my Shepherd who slept in the "hammock" part he is not supposed to sleep there. Unfortunately, I have to buy a hard-bottom cover to give both my GSD's the room they need. I may look at the floor type as well. But, still would need to be hard-bottom.

Thanks for watching! The 4Knines Floor Hammock does not have a structural/rigid bottom. However, in most cases, the heavy-duty, flexible material can drape over and/or be molded around any uneven surfaces, tool boxes or under-seat storage. We hope this helps, and we hope to earn your business.

Lets be honest my guy… your evaluation is a little misleading with misinformation.. that entire back piece is one and it pulls on it as a whole, for one. Secondly, the entire weight of the dog is not going to be on the back of the chairs. Thirdly, even if it was laying sideways over the gap, these seats are made to hold big ass people. Many many many people over 300 lbs, even in sedans, lean back on their seats. Which are bolted to the metal floor by metal framing. Its not an issue, the weight is also halved because it would be evenly distributed with the hard base design. Half the weight on each chair. It should not be an issue unless you have more than 1 dog in this contraption thats over 80lbs

Our research indicates this type of product may not adhere to safety standards outlined by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Seat extenders are typically installed by attaching to the front seat headrests. Guidelines set by some vehicle manufacturers advise the MAX LOAD on the seat back should not exceed 6.62 pounds (3 kg). Please check your vehicle’s owners manual for more information. Since most of our furry passengers weigh more than this recommended weight, we are not comfortable developing this product without further research and testing.
