It a blessing to hear that Jamaicans want to come home but my advice to you all is :if you can afford it buy a house in a community that you are not from buy it,why? Most time when you are from a community, leave and come back, people think that you owe them something. If you live somewhere else then you avoid all of that and might be able to enjoy the money that you work so hard for over the years.

I lift my hat to you young man that you decided to move back home to Jamaica based on your personal conviction. You've closed your ears to the naysayers and the doom and gloom people who discredit and discouraged people to return. You are not alone. Stay strong and stay positive. Blessings be upon you continually. 🙏

Yes Morris, I was recently in Jamaica and was sorely disappointed too. I had savings at JTA and wanted to get a loan to buy property. I had a great balance in my account but they wanted a title (I don’t buy the land yet) among other things. Short story, I had to withdraw most of my shares to finance my business. Next, I went to Jamaica National New Kingston branch to open an account. I waited over an hour just to see a teller, she started the process, asked me for proof of who I am. I gave my US passport, my TRN, my pay stubs, my job letter, utility bills, NIS number, A state ID, and these were NOT enough to open the account. They wanted a Jamaican passport that was current too. I had an account with them and they found the account online. But, they still denied me the account. They discourage returning residents opening accounts with them. Well, I wanted the convenience of having the same bank in New York to transact business. Suffice to say, I went to Scotia bank (Liguanea) to open an account. Same documents presented. Account opened!!! Big up Scotia Bank!!!

Ironically thats the reason why I would not retire in jamaica, I have no problem with whomever want to make that choice, I respect their personal decision. However, for me the same thing that this video is complaining about is exactly why I would not retire in jamaica, I said it before and I will say it again, jamaica is a backward place run by incompetent leaders. They have no vision and or foresight. There are so many places one can retire in the world with tropical environment and safety without compromise, jamaica is not the only place with nice beaches and sunshine.

JAMAICA is behind. They have nothing in place for Jamaican residents who live overseas. I spent 2 days at a cable company just to connect the cable and wi fi at my house. I understand fully. I grew up in the UK from the age of 7 but the pull was always there for my homeland. I am in my 60s have, my children are all grown up, with their own children. I have been back home now for 4 years and l could not be happier, living my best life, eating healthy. So many people can't believe l just upped and moved back home after so many years, there was so much negativity but God has been good to me and home is where my heart has always been and l wanted to spend my money in my home country. I used to visit Canada often before the Pandemic as l have lots of relatives there. The system in JA really needs improvement. I really admire what you are doing and wish all the best for the future for you and your family.

Its not Jamaica, Its the US govt that requested this information as the US govt tracks everything you do. Ive seen legitimate business men have to turn over documents to show where they derived the money from. If not the US seizes their assest and puts a freeze on their accounts. Its no joke. The US govt is watching you even if you live in Jamaica. The other day a house in Whitehouse Jamaica was raided and $600 million US dollars was found stacked in a bedroom from floor to ceiling. Within a week the US Coast Guard were patroling the waters up and down the south coast. I witnessed this myself. ( The US Ship that is )

Many times we shield our children from the very things that made us who we are: strong, responsible, having respect, confidence, tenacity, appreciation for hard work, trust/praise God etc. and instead of preparing them for the future, we prepare the future for them. Hi Mi Chef friend! I want to tell you to keep planning and making Decisions that are first guided by our GOD, family centered and self gratifying. My grandmother always said, “If a man has a plan, a good woman will follow him anywhere!” In other words, some men lack direction and rely on other things including the woman to make all decisions for his family. He is not sure of his role as a man, leader, husband and father, the provider. Right. So families are often time over stressed and destroyed as a result of this. As long as you keep GOD first and allow Him to order your steps, YOU and all things attached to you will be ever blessed by GOD(cars, health, finances, family, everything Mi friend!). Thanks for sharing. Nuf love from Dallas, Texas ✋🏽🙏🏽❤️✋🏽🤗

Joan, what credit union did you use? I was back home in May & went to update my information on my joint account I opened with my mother when I was a preteen before migrating to Canada. Despite having my IDs, bill showing my address, pay information they still wouldn’t update my info & asking for 2 people to vouch for me in JA! I’m like, I haven’t lived in JA since I was 13, I don’t know any Pastor or accountant etc. Plus my aunt is a vice principal & they said I can’t use her. Mind you I work for a major financial institution in Canada for over almost 2 decades and they wouldn’t update my information. I found this mind boggling as I’m already on the account and not even opening a new account. Such a turn off. I’d rather open an account with a credit union as you suggested.

Well we'll. I worked in the health sector for years in Jamaica. My father bought me my first car,. I sold it and wanted a loan for an upgrade. The bank refused my application initially and said my salary couldn't afford me the requested portion. Long and short, the bank manager reviewed my request and granted me the loan. I bought my car, repaid my loan before the time now the bank wants to lend me more. They kept calling that I am now qualified for 3.5 million and I never ever had requested a million at that time, It's too funny

Real talk. Was in Jamaica 6 yrs ago. Tried opening an account to start the transitioning process. Brought pay stubs to prove I've been working the same job for over 20 yrs. plus proof of my assets in NYC. Got denied with some excuse about the law pertaining to the money laundering act. Believe me when I say both managers are ppl I went to school with in Ja. I just flew back to NYC with my money and said though my family has commercial n residential properties . Ja is a no ,no for investment. Try having to do other businesses and having to make multiple trips, the immigration employees act like, one should not come back home, the level of harrassment. One even tell me that's what happens when you not travelling on the Ja book and I should get one. I responded , the U.S. book takes me anywhere without a problem only here. I also brought to her attention that we have assets there n my book specify that place of birth is Ja. so don't tell me I frequent my main home too much. I provide jobs each time I am here cause I am doing major construction . I reinterated that u can't transplant peas n it produce corn. I also quoted Bob Marley's song " Dem a go tired fi see mi face." Now that I stop working, seriously thinking to retire elsewhere cause can' t bother with the foolishness. Even my younger sisters who are in Ja often and would love to partners with the hospital n give free medical assistance to our ppl who cant afford it. Try donating supplies to a facility or hospital the red tapes make it virtually impossible. The minstry of Health should allow the administrator to clear these aid at the wharves without a glitch. We know better never to try that again. U gotta pay to sent it n leave go down to pay for it then gift it to the hospital administrator. SICK

Badmind is too prevalent especially if they see you doing too well. It's Jamaicans bringing JA down with the poor thinking about it's own citizens and members of the diaspora. It's sad and a turn off for many.

Bear in mind also that when and if those supplies are issued to the hospital , you have to stay on top of it to make sure they ( hospital workers ) don't grab for themselves and sell what they can. Everything dem hustle out a yawd, even when it is beneficial to them. Kmt I love my country bad and just wish and hope for a change with alot of things. Sad to see that people have to now resort and change plans to invest, move or relocate to another country.

I retired in 2013 & have been thinking of moving back to Jamaica, however after numerous visits I am hesitant to make that move because of the backwards way the banks operate..I am still sitting on the fence not sure about that move! I went to another bank where I had no account n they lent me, I never mssed 1 payment n paid off, I still do business w/them up to this day. The first bank is calling if I want to borrow or know anyone who does I said 'No thanks' n told them y. Most of the banks in Ja is so unfair, it's discouraging.

Thanks Morris for been strong and decided to fight out the system, I'll never give up my country my kids were born in the U.S. but I made sure they went to school in Jamaica primary and high school , came back up to the U.S. for university so they know their Jamaican roots it's very important to know where you are from. Good luck in your building endeavors I am frustrated daily by this process and the prices increase every 48,hrs so if you see something you like at a decent price but it them and store it especially if you have the place to keep it. My man is Jamaican whilst I'm not and I observe him face difficulty after difficultly from these people who are employed to do their job they are rude and lack any form of customer service skills. One day at the wharf where they have held on to our household belongings for the pass 4 months it got so bad I thought I was having a panic attack. Other places they were talking quite openly about about giving them back hand payments to get our business done quicker. The country is fast becoming like Nigeria where you can't piss in a public toilet without paying the cleaner. Shocking, we can't set up our home because they taking so long to release our furniture's meanwhile they very proudly told us we will be expected to pay storage charges

I'm convinced that only its only black people who get this kind of treatment in Jamaica because I'm damn sure the Chinese who's aim is to take over the Caribbean and Africian Continent don't get pushed around this way, is it because they have government backing? They can just walk in and open a store with hardly any problem and are exempt from paying duty in most cases. Governments across the Caribbean are like cheap prostitutes they accept money from China to take its people what some of us don't realise is that some of these people are ex-prisoners that China has released from its prisons

The minister of finance needs to first provide a SENSIBLE explanation to the CITIZENS of Jamaica, who just happen to have a foreign address, why they are treated with such disrespect, if/ when try try to do business with one of the excuse for financial institutions in the country of their birth. If you think it’s bad being denied a loan…imagine being denied the opportunity to open a savings account and put honestly earned money INTO a Jamaican bank, to open a savings account, on the grounds that I was not currently employed(because I had resigned from my work shortly prior to that)…even tho I could show proof of regular paychecks coming from an employer and electronically deposited into my foreign accounts for MANY years. So if you worked for many years abroad and saved the money your earned…and then decide you want to use some of that honestly earned money to open a SAVINGS account in Jamaica, expect to face the possibility of spending half the day on line (some of it even waiting outside 🙄), only to be rejected by TWO different banks. I went from feeling shocked, to feeling angry, and now I just feel a deep sense of embarrassment mixed with DISGUST, that the land of my birth is being run with such arrogance, stupidity, sloppiness, and financial negligence.

A minimum of 6 months to 2 years income is requires for loans. I do not recommend any returning residents in applying for financial aid in the form of loans or anything else. PLEASE alway have available funds to be self reliant in any country because it will be extremely hard. Please maintain excellent credit in Canada as a back up. @@beverleymcghie787 i am well aware sweetie. How does that lend a hand to honest working clients?. They clearly need to find a way to serve clients that aren’t launderers 🙄

Omg I'm happy that you have done this video. As a salon owner I tried so many banks in Jamaica to get financial help and it's the same story absolutely no help as a small business owner. If I wasn't a go getter I would be doomed. This is encouraging. We need the politicians to look into this. A big turn off for us to invest in our homeland. I suggest you show them your roots. That's the greatest for the start. Gonna subscribe now. Love this content. Eye opening to others. Jamaicans unu listen and learn. I have been there.
