Sometimes it happens that I meet religious on the street and it makes me so happy in a way but they don’t know it probably, idk it’s just beautiful!

An elderly American friend of my mother was strolling in a Canadian park when she spied an enchanting little red-headed boy playing with his parents. She stopped to speak to them. Turns out they were visiting Germans. How the conversation ever turned in this direction escapes me, but somehow she discovered that the family had spent three years in Sydney. In a Justin moment, she said brightly "Oh I have a friend whose daughter is living in Sydney! Perhaps you know her..." And as it turns out, they did. Our next door neighbours, in fact...

You make comments about knowing Justin: My story: I am an American, and I was working in a FOOD PANTRY in Rome, Italy. I was serving a table of Turkish immigrants. I said I was from Wisconsin, then he mentioned a person he knows in a town. I was living near that town. I ended up KNOWING the person he knew. So An American Meets a Turkish homeless person in Rome Italy, and we had a common acquaintance.

Growing up in New Mexico, USA in the 50s and 60s priests and sisters in religious dress were pretty common as a matter of fact. Now seeing a friar or a priest out in their "sin fighting suit" is about as rare as seeing a polar bear out for a Sunday stroll. I love seeing a sister, priest, or friar out and about... I feel safe, loved, and honored to greet them and say hello. The world needs more men and women who are visible signs of commitment to God. Too bad most people today think Jedi!!!! when they see a habit.

I was fortunate enough to live in Johannesburg South Africa for the first few years Of my life, living in SA are my first memories and where I started speaking so I had a South African accent as a kid lol

There’s a Dominican pastor at the parish we attend He replaced another priest that retired, and the first thing i noticed in a confession was that he wore sandals! He purposely learned the TLM Mass because our previous pastor said it. I know it’s very difficult for him, but I hope he gets blessed. By the way,his homilies are great!

I live in NYC and am very blessed to be a parishioner at St. Vincent Ferrer & St. Catherine of Siena churches which are run by Dominicans. Fr. Peter Martyr Yungwirth is our Pastor; we are so very blessed to have him. The many Dominicans friars at our parish are amazing. It would be very cool if Fr. Pine is assigned to our parish.

Tough life for Fr. he will struggle with fortitude and courage and not be ashamed but that's means more holiness :-) The wearing of the habit anywhere is a great silent witness that doesn't need to use words. Some franciscans even go barefoot while praying the rosary and everybody in school was looking. God bless, Rev. 21:4

Many years ago when I was young and in the USMC, I had to leave my wife for 6 months and sail across God's vast ocean. I had no contact with her except for letters she sent, later in the deployment she sent me a cassette tape recording of a message. We are from the deep South and I had never been away from home before and in the process of being around other Marines and Sailors from all over the USA my accent tapered off and I forgot what it sounds like. When I listened to the tape I thought "Who is this woman and where did she get that accent". I loved her dearly (and still do) but could not believe I was married to a woman with such a sweet, beautiful accent as that.

After my family moved to California, before cassette recorders, our cousins came out from Louisville to visit us. At one point we got irritated and asked them, "Where did you get that stupid accent? You didn't have that when we lived in Tennessee."

The whole "it's cute for a while but eventually you just want people to understand you" sentiment I know far too well. Moving from North West England with a Manchester accent to South Australia was a real journey hahaha the quirky personality trait novelty wears off real quick

What’s so wrong with having an accent? I wonder that when someone gets offended by it. It’s actually really cool to have an accent.

There are actually many different (very, very different) accents in South Africa, broadly speaking: black, Indian, coloured (which I am, so I notice a few different ones), and two kinds of white accents. "The South African accent" that foreigners typically refer to is the white Afrikaner accent (which is miles apart from the white English-speaking accent). White Afrikaans people typically come from the Dutch people, and Afrikaans is a Dutch hybrid including bits coming from English and various native languages here. This isn't a criticism or lament. I'm not offended by foreigners referring to one of the accents here as "the South African accent." It's perfectly reasonable to call it that if that's the only one you're familiar with, or the only one you can identify as South African.

I studied in a Catholic school run by Dominican priests. You definitely won't look weird to me, Father Gregory. It would feel maybe a little bit nostalgic, though.

If you're talking about the white Afrikaans accent then, yes it's strange to other people but PLEASE remember, there are ENGLUSH speaking white South Africans who speak very clearly and English/British people mistake us for Australians. 🙈

Maybe I just dont get it... But why would people look at Fr. Pine with an odd look? You can look at him and clearly see that he is a Dominican priest...or at least a Dominican religious of sorts. I really feel for his Mother...as a mother, I can imagine the heartbreak she must feel when people look at her child like that! Matt Fradds accent stands out here in America...which I love hearing because it is different...but to ask him if he knows Justin is just weird!

..."The public" may stare at his freakish costume ...but I bet they don't drop now normalized "f bombs" around him, or offer to sell him sex or drugs on the street...he's set apart...and that is easier with the robes...at least for now...⏳
