Coming from someone who is in the Bikelife lifestyle, where all we do is wheelies in the streets with tricks(combos) the first tip was useful but the main focus here is REAR brake that’s the life saver and you must get muscle memory of rear brake so when you hit balance point you body reacts for you and presses rear brake for you sometimes w/o your knowledge henceforth the muscle memory

With fuel injection keeping the balance point is even easier as the throttle response and torque curve is incredible. Imagine the old dudes who could walk a vertical wheelie on a 79 RM 125 with drum brakes. ..the broad power curve of a dremel tool and poor brakes compared to hydraulic disc. Doug Domokos mastered the old bikes...legend.

This is all true and great advice, however; If you're 90lbs on a bike with 7 hp, forget it unless you whiskey throttle and dump the clutch, then, maybe.. If you're 190-240lbs, on that same bike, with 3 1/2 hp, you can simply wheelie using your weight and lightly throttling up. 😂

Tyler - can you comment on the bad habit of ‘bailing out’ when trying to learn to wheelie? Seems to me that if you just go for it, and bail out / let go when the bike comes up high, you just reinforce a bad habit - could you include this in the material if you agree? Just sharing one persons perspective. PS - I have been riding Dirtbikes for 50 years. 😎
@gwagenadventure727
@gwagenadventure727 Жыл бұрын
If ur bailing on the wheelie your missing the post important part of the wheelie which is covering the rear brake to prevent looping put. This is a muscle memory skill and should be one of the first steps to mastering the wheelie.

sounds like you just need to be conscious of how much gas your giving it as it comes up and adjust accordingly, it doesnt always come up the exact same, and chances are it could be your body positioning and how bent your arms are. also you can try without the clutch if you think its messing you up

Hey Tyler, I try to learn Slow wheelies but I don't want to do it to often because I'm worried that I smoke the clutch on my 125 2 stroke. Do you no if its bad for the clutch?
@thomaseberhardt6603
@thomaseberhardt6603 Жыл бұрын
Any time you use the clutch it will cause wear but it’s not a reason to not practice wheelies. It won’t completely smoke the clutch though, just be careful to not overheat the bike because going slow while using the clutch heavily will cause the bike to get very hot very fast. As long as you let the bike cool off you should be good!
@Jake-rp9cv
@Jake-rp9cv Жыл бұрын
I have probably spent 20+ hours just practicing wheelies on my yz 125. I have felt no difference in the clutch. I usually only do slow wheelies. Focus on compressing the rear shock as you dump the clutch, then you will have to barely even rev the bike to get it to pop straight up which should cause the least amount of wear to the clutch. On my 250, if I compress the shock enough I don't even have to use the clutch.

Real problem with doing anything dirtbike related is having a no member$hip place to ride that doesn't take hours to get to that costs 50 bucks to suck once a month without your friends and family. Guess this wheelies class opens the door to the mostly untapped 3oclock boys urban view demographic that keeps the impound lots full of stuck in limbo bikes with low use suspension waiting for some dickbag mayor to crush them with tracked machines instead of using all that energy for something positive like community designated tracks/ moto parks for America's truly favorite pastime.
