IDK man... kind of a stretch to call it "borrowed content" or joke theft. It wasn't so much a joke as it was a weird, random story. And on top of that, it was an entirely different story than the one in the show. The only shared thing between the two is the idea of a "wood shirt" which you can clearly see from the google image search is not an idea completely unique to Theo.

Thats clearly just one example, theo is not the type of guy that gets pissed off about someone or something very often, especially publicly. So to see him like this, he definitely feels that one of the writers of that show is stealing material, it might not be exactly the same, like theres people that know theo really well from that show and they just so happen to both come up with the wooden shirt bit? Thats suss af! Ive only watched a tiny bit of that show and it wouldnt surprise me if someone has said were going to make dicky character simular to how theo sees the world. Ut it this way, if theo thinks this, i believe him and they probably are indirectly using some of theos work.

The issue with shows of this nature lies in their extensive team of writers. Individuals like Dave may not even be aware of the original source of the ideas, simply selecting amusing elements from the pool of writers' contributions. While it is true that he should exercise more caution in filtering out content and identifying potential plagiarism, realistically speaking, it is highly unlikely that he has the time to meticulously examine each and every joke that comes his way

Theo told that story years before he mentioned it on JRE. Point being, people saying "this or that" without even knowing the history of things. Also brings up the point of Theo's type of comedy... he's literally been known for 5-6 years now for his crazy childhood stories. He makes up these wild stories that are clearly made up or exaggerated, but delivers them without even smirking and that's part of the bit. I'll also comment on a lot of what others have said, I've listened to Theo religiously since 2017 and I've heard him this genuinely pissed off inside maybe 3-4 times.

There needs to be more given examples and they have to be closely related. Even then, in my opinion isn't stealing. They heard a man tell a funny story so they brought the concept to life but created a different version. It may have been influenced by Theo but not a reason to see Lil dicky as a competitor. I'm about to start a dark humor based cartoon series about a talking tree family that wear wooden shirts. In one scene the tree boy gets beat up on the bus. Not after he gets on wearing the skin of another tree.. Sawdust flakes falling from his little branch head.. I just did the same thing Dicky's writers did in this example that I just made up. And honestly it sounds like it has potential if it were real. That's how everything is made.

Normally a huge Theo Von fan, but imo you shouldn't bring something like this up without going into details. Joke stealing ruins comedians' careers and to get people to have this impression of Lil Dicky without backing it up is kind of messed up. There are definitely people who consider Lil Dicky a joke stealer now without even being able to name what was stolen. The wooden shirt thing is a stretch imo, and if that is literally the only thing the internet can find, and the internet is pretty good at this type of stuff, seems like a claim that needs justification.

The stigma around stealing jokes really only applies to comics. I don't follow Lil Dicky so I don't know if he does any stand-up, but unless he uses stolen jokes in his act then there's no real reason his career would be impacted. Its not unheard of. Im 36, when I was in junior high we joked about wooden clothes (pants AND shirts) because of the wooden dutch shoes or whatever. Neither Theo Von nor Lil Dicky were even a thing back in the late 90's early 2000's when my friends & i joked about that very thing. Many people have the same thoughts just a different creative angle. Its far from uncommon. You ever hear someone you've never seen use a word your group of friends uses that you dont hear anyone else use really? Or phrase...or hear a song lyric and make up your own funny version, just to hear someone else on youtube made a video about it? Also, hearing Theo tell a story about it and using that isnt stealing jokes...especially if its a true story. That's just using that story as inspiration. Stealing his joke wouldve been if he made up that story for a bit. Am I wrong? Not taking either side, but i feel people put too much attachment to "their jokes" some times.
