I have 2 male orange tabbies that follow my dog every morning for walks through the neighborhood. Both will flop over and roll around on their backs several times during the walk. That how I know they are HAPPY and trusting of me AND the dog. They've been doing this for over a year. Starting one month after I got the 8week old GSD. We're quite the spectacle and I've talked to both cat and dog owners. Everyone thinks it's so cool. They always look for the cats when they see me walking the dog.

When I get home. My little girl meets me at the door. She gets her scritchy - scratchies. Then she lays down and wants her tummy rubbed. She has me trained well

Great video. I have 6 cats, all are rescues. Three of the six welcome a brief belly rub. The other three would rip my hand off. It’s the biggest situation where paying attention to each cat’s individual reactions is key to a positive relationship with my babies.

My cat likes tummy rubs. Years ago my neighbor's outdoor cat would roll over when she saw me, even when she was pregnant. I'd talk to her about her babies coming and would pet her, gradually stroke closer to her belly while talking about the "babies in there". She actually let me gently stroke the sides of her belly. We eventually adopted her and the kittens because the neighbor wanted to be rid of them. The cat and I were good friends for years!

Mine certainly has never had a negative experience. He runs up to strangers and rolls over to ask for belly rubs. It's never a trap. He is an incredibly chill cat. Seventeen pound brown tabby. Huge cat.

My male cat, however, rarely allows belly rubs and will usually make a 'mrrp' sound and stand up if I've approached him when he's lying belly-up. It's hard to resist that pose, especially if his front paws are bunched up under his chin and he looks like a bunny (and he knows he's acting cute, too). When he does grant permission to belly-rub, there's nothing softer or fluffier.

My Tabby rolls over on her back and shows me her belly every single time she she's me. I rescued her as a kitten when someone abandoned the poor little thing and she has been loving to me from day 1. She even runs in front of me when I'm walking and she will stop in front of me, throw herself on to the floor and start rolling around. She almost trips me up when she does it. Her name is Jill but I call her "Stop, drop and roll" lol!

I don't own cats, but our community is over run by strays. Recently, a grey boy cat started coming around my outdoor space. it was like he took one look at me and decided he wanted to be around me all the time. i wouldn't touch him at first, but after a while i realized he's not only friendly but hes super intelligent, funny, and loving too. He's a handsome boy, and very well behaved. He shows me his belly, and half the time he does't care if i rub his belly. His personality is tough guy, but acts like nothing bothers him. he has the perfect personality. i think the best part is that not only is he super smart, but also the fact that i don't own him and he still wants to hang out with me every day. He chooses me, and thats a feeling i can't ignore. its a special friendship with an animal who is free and isn't a pet.

My boy will walk in front of me and fall over into his side and then roll onto his back. Most of the times when cats roll on their backs and you see their belly, it's because they don't want you to pet them. Like when your cat is laying/sleeping, and upon your approach, the cat "lays" with the top of it's head aon the floor or sleeping surface, so you see it's underchin and neck, but blocks the kitty scalp.

Cats actually love belly rubs but they only love them from people they trust. When my cat doesn't want to be bothered she sleeps at the foot of my bed. hen I'm being reqrded for being a good human she curls up next to my head and puts hers on my shoulder. Her normal mode of sleep is at my waist with my hand resting on her tummy...she knows who protects her.

My 2 young (1 year old) female cats have been showing me their bellies since they were 10 weeks old and if I don't respond and pet their bellies they get upset. I never yelled at them but gave them a stern no when they act up. I had cats on and off for 30 years now but I have never experienced having 2 Velcro cats that follow me everywhere I go in the house. I'm new to having a cat, my cat has long hair, is It ok to get its hair cut? Mann, this cat thing is a whole new world for me..

They are also rubbing their shoulders and backs on the ground. You can see them rubbing their cheeks on the ground also. So, it does show a feeling of trust and safety, but the point of it seems to be to rub their own backs.

I have a cat who flips over like a pancake when I walk up to her when she's napping, I don't know why, but I started saying "Thanks for showing me your tummy", after a couple of weeks of this I can say "show me your tummy and she flips right over" but only if no one else is around, of course, and she loves tummy yummies, as I call them, she'll also roll over on request, she's scary smart like that, I just love her to pieces!

An obvious but never-mentioned reason for turning belly-up, regularly observed by horse owners (and even dog owners): they're just scratching their back. They don't have arms that can reach behind; if they have a tickle or itch, they need to rub under something or flop over and rub their back on the ground. When they do it, try reaching under and rubbing their back to see if they like that. I also have a cat who rolls over as a greeting: "You're home! Scratch my chin! Now!"
