RC Bhargava is highly connected with Japanese and Indian Bureaucratic lobbies since the last 30 years. It is still cashing first-mover advantage it got in the 80s and was able to set up factories which are highly profitable on account have been fully depreciated today manu times over. It's cars are getting lighter and lighter. Metal sheets and dash plastic quality has become worse than the worst cheap chinese car......

With this Mindset, Maruti Suzuki will soon be history on the Indian road. We need young people running the company who can think of the next 20 years, not the ones who are still living 20 years back in time.

We can't ignore Maruti's contribution towards Indian middle class to have a small car for their home to fulfill their dreams.. Even 15-17 yrs back the story was this... But now a person like him should not tell this story for not producing EVs. Yes EVs are meant for City and higher middle class people probably for another 5 yrs or so.. but again a person like him should have been more visionary. They have immense infrastructure and they just should not think about large amount of Sales only, and rather how these EVs can eventually reach to normal middle class and make a future..

We staying in mumbai. In our building there are around 7 to 8 Evs which they charge in building itself. But these are not the cases with rest of building here in mumbai where parking is a problem. I do agree with maruti we need to find better energy sources other than coal produced energy for clean energy

What he said is absolutely right. Whats the point of charging your EV car with the electricity produced by coal which is much worse than burning petrol in your car in terms of carbon emissions. Electric cars make sense if you have solar charging point installed in your house and you are using it to charge your car battery then you are doing something good.

Have you seen the choice some EV makers are giving customers in global markets. This confidence does not come from R&D or product launches but from protectionist measures. Even the highly competitive US markets dominated by Teslas had to be protected from foreign EV makers. Would the Maruti's survive without such measures?

For once I agree on Maruthi's thought. While many OEMs are now into EVs, I couldn't find any EVSEs, not for every kilometre atleast every once in 5 to 10kM. Without we fix the availability of charger, boost up the energy supply (more of cleaner one), it's going to be tough on EV sales. There are still some places in Chennai where you'd even struggle to have a parking area. This doesn't means we should stop mfg any EV, but in parallel we should also work towards creating the infra, required to support charging of same.

He is not wrong. Its a mammoth electricity infrastructure upgrade we require (we need to triple our electricity output, upgrade distribution/transmission lines, upgrade the electricity load of pretty much every building etc.). Its not going to be an easy or smooth transition. We will require a lot of innovation on how people parking on the street also are going to charge. I'm sure the peculiar situations in India will lead to some great innovation though !

Otherwise his points were bang on ,now not even 1 percent of the car are ev and if it goes to 15 to 20 percent than higher liad transformer will be required which means extra expenditure on the part of government. Second lithium battery cost have increased by three to four time if a car cost 14 lac than its battery cost is around 8 lakhs and life of battery is around six to eight years . Thirdly 75 percent of India's power is coal based power so it's no way going to reduce carbon emissions, just because america is doing something we should not blindly copy. Switzerland, The country which was awarded zero carbon emissions award on the basis of its ev policy has banned ev vehicle completely now.

Then launch both EV and hybrid cars. Why take a bet on just one and jeopardize such a big market which suzuki already holds.

Only 8% Indian families own cars, NFHS finds. Over 50% still use bicycles, bikes & scooters. This was a recent news article I read, so if true, there’s hardly a need for ev vehicles since hardly anyone will use them or afford them anyways, it’s good to have that selection but if no one’s biting then I wouldn’t depend on it, maybe scrap older public transportation and frieght with ev vehicles and start there

China have too many car brands while India have one big giant manufacturer TATA 2. lower labour cost 3. cooperation with countries like Japan on hybrid engine technology 4. India is the largest english speaking country and have good relationship with EU + USA 5. Unlike China, India is a democracy country

He's making perfect sense, but some people just refuse to listen to it. In a city like Delhi and Mumbai, how many people have their own garage to charge their cars? Not even 1%. So how are they going to charge their EV, on the road with a cabe directly connected to the transmission line? 😂😂

He is absolutely right. I say no to EV. Reason being, the way lithium is mined, transported, processed and batteries are manufactured itself has a huge emission of carbon and coal as well as he mentioned. Secondly to give an example of Nexon which gives 8 year warranty on battery, imagine after 8 years your battery Is dead and either insurance or warranty doesnt cover. The total cost as of now to replace it is 7.4 lakhs (source: teambhp and zigwheels).. with that cost who the F*** will buy battery vehicles. Also people who criticize maruti, pls tell me who has cars at every portfolio, excellent service network, negligible cost of maintenance, value for money, spares availability in open market, mileage, features etc. They only need to work on safety which is important. Pls go an buy original spares for skoda, Honda, Toyota, VW and nissan..you will never be able to do it in the open market and u have to go to showroom where they ripoff your money. Only Maruti sells 100% spares, Hyundai at around 85% of the spares are available in open market but electronic items and turbo chargers u have to go to showroom and tata as well, almost 85%.. where both are still ok than VW, skoda, Honda etc.

Maruti wants that every petrol station should have Ev charging station then they will launch an ev. Just see toyotas first ev bzx. The range on that car is less than competitors. Yet its expensive so Toyota and Suzuki have the same mindset they want people to buy there hybrids.

I have friends who purchased EV cars in recent years and all of these issues are very real and are not resolvable in the near future. A few have faced many more problems than reported here due to battery giving less mileage for n number of reasons. It seems many are living in a utopia rather than real world. EV cars seems to me a complete scam.
