Got it The Red Air Fighter 2/6 Net Rittmeister Manfred Freihherrn Von Richthofen Introduction by C.G. Grey editor of the aeroplane Blue cover Red Falze 1918. I assume it was translated while Richthofen was still alive because preface doesn't mention his death. Rather the desire to share drinks and smokes while comparing notes after the war. This book must've been printed early in 1918 Got it right in front of me. Possibly February as I believe he was shot down in April. The English translation would certainly have worded the preface much differently had he already passed. Btw the old German language of the time is very different in it's slang and interpretation as it changed very much after WWII So the interpretation of 1918 is the most reliable unless you can read old world German precisely.

I was sad to hear that what I thought would be a very informative and interesting book has been compromised for political purposes. Why couldn't they have just left it alone!!

What you say might be true There was many a legend and rumor that has built since then. Including his final words " I'm Kaput " He was said to have a lot of currency on him at the time. Possibly being downed so far over enemy lines was actually trying to defect. But wouldn't be a smart man that publishes all about himself and skills while still in the fight. You have to remember this book was written during time of War. Neither side divulged such information as tactics or manuvers. The original German book contained a chart that was even taken out of the English translation. Why do you think the scarcity of any air force or military eguipment depiction on publications or post cards. Actual post cards from the time are strictly illustrations or propaganda photos . None showing military equipment .
