Extinction Rebellion (XR) UK

4 жыл бұрын

On 8 October, 2019, XR’s Red Brigade faces a police border on Whitehall.
Join the rebellion here: rebellion.eart...
You are called on.
Something is happening. You know it is, you can feel it. You are called on to be part of it.
Because time is running out.
We’re almost at the point of no return.
The governments are doing nothing.
Businesses are doing nothing.
It’s up to you now.
This isn’t a distant apocalypse. People all over the world are suffering and dying right now. Whole species are going extinct. And it will only get worse. The time to act is now.
It’s already begun to happen to others. Next, it will happen to you, and everybody you love, too.
We must rebel.
You can’t count on us or Greta to do this for you. You have to look inside yourself and rebel.
Starting on October 7th, for 2 weeks, Extinction Rebellion is calling an International Rebellion. Together, we will peacefully occupy the centres of power and shut them down until governments act on the Climate and Ecological Emergency.
Leave your desk. Invite your boss. Walk out of school. Switch off the TV. Put down your phone. Get on the streets. And bring everybody.
You are called on. If you do one thing with your life, do this. Not later, now.
Respect existence or expect resistance.
If not now, when? ...... If not you, who? Everybody now!

I would like to know more about the Red Brigade. Where did the idea for the costumes come from, what do they symbolize? It reminds me of the Handmaid Tales costumes in the U.S. and the Angels protest against coal mining in Australia. It's brilliant in any case! Thank you so much for what you're doing. We've got a whole lot of work cut out for us in the U.S., and y'all are setting a good example. Peace!

End the oil wars? Won't happen without these: There are 3 factors of possible paths to prolonging a reasonable weather globally unless you think baseball hail, flooding, landslides and big storms are fun. The first flips substations off-grid, its magnet motor for 1300hp/1-Mw is small, fits --> trucks, trains, aeroplanes and ships at sea. This implies cars without refueling or recharging for the LIFETIME of the owner, eh? The 1300hp/1-Mw has a half-century no-inputs warranty of 24/7 power with normal upkeep, the magnets are still 90% in 1000-years, it's the only sensible power source to pursue. So, flip towns off-grid, 1-Mw/1300hp, "50-year no-inputs warranty"; 17yr R&D; Belgian: technokontrol.com/en/current-projects/generator.php, the RF-5000, sparkless for use with explosives, that is their business case. For home farm ranch made to wire into panels, act as the inverter: 10kw•$15k, 5kw•$8k, 20-year wrnty; S. Korean: infinitysav.com/magneticgenerator, 1-penny/kwh. The 5kw fits a pickup toolbox, is quiet, no fumes indoors, looks good for construction to me, $400/yr, $35/month + interest for 24x7 power, eh? These globally are the ONLY machines ready for assembly-line, high-volume design and production I found in trade studies. They are the bleeding edge, beaten path to a no-emission, tiny carbon-footprint motive power for all machines. Second, is using algae to purify wastewater at the treatment plant, or onsite for home•farm•ranch using the same units, this emits O2 and removes CO2, eh? Then, the oils & biomass can become biodiesel and derivatives, from a pilot study I did for Phoenix, AZ, a 10M-gallons/day plant can produce about 3M-gallons/day of biodiesel, Gov. Jan Brewer was on board, we got shot down by her party. Too bad, eh? Sound familiar? Finally, it all boils down to dealing with Arctic seaice, heat gained in the 2007 retreat was 95,000-Twh over average. Closing all Steam-age power plants 250Mwh and above is a one-time save of 36,000-Twh in emitted wasteheat. That's 2•1/2-times too little to balance the gain vs the loss compared to the 1980-2000 average ice extent. Losing the seaice is game-over on controlling runaway in the Arctic, this is what brings the extremes in weather vs assuming it'd get tropical to midwest farmers, eh? The serious 'Last Hurrah' for it all, to me, for what humanity needs to do: Install a weir dam at St. Lawrence Is. and polder north the entire Chukchi Sea to prevent wave damage and stratify the water to refreeze the bottom creating a year-round seaice refuge. ALL shipping confined within 3-4km of shore, zero cross-ocean traffic, this uses Dutch ships, materials and methods to create polders, shoals & levees. And, building submerged "atolls" encircling methane vents, this uses the bubble flow to pull in colder bottom water which refreezes them. It all confines the freshwater runoff and most of all limits early melting from shore out to-sea in spring. This reduces 5-Amazons of warmer, fresher water to 1/100th of what is melting the seaice from below. Fresher water freezes at a higher temperature so true seaice isn't formed at the surface on freezeup, it needs -2C/28.4F for seaice to last over ONE season. This intends to prevent the Siberian jetstream from turning north and can be modelled, the N.Pacific is too warm and heats the airmass from below, with The Blob in the Gulf of AK, that drives the circulation pattern needing change back to Holocene patterns. So, the warmth sends rain to Anchorage in December and frozen oranges to Florida the routine now, started early, eh? As that air cools it now gets to low latitudes ONLY over land to balance equatorial overheating. The concept has 36,000 views on a seaice forum and zero actions upon it. It's the only geographic location on Earth with the ability to alter the Anthropocene jetstream paths back into N.America instead of going north. I can't order it done, the people in the poop deck party think everything's fine with lifeboats already in the water ... In any case, it's the ONLY sane try to alter things not dependent upon emissions to overcome those effects enough to give MIDWEST FARMERS a break, else, expect a repeat of this past year or worse, eh? Expect flooding after this snow, cold ground for maximum runoff vs a normal Holocene year. Welcome to the Anthropocene, CO2 won't go below 400ppm for >>120,000-years as oceans outgas their aragonite losses by reversing the carbonic acid cycle which acidifies fast and goes alkaline very, very, very slowly ... climatic hysteresis, a real reason to consider extinction with business-as-usual. "The rate of acidification is 10-times faster or more than anything we have seen for the past 50-million years and perhaps over the last 300-million years.". The red brigade came along to Millbank on day one to give support to the northern rebels during arrests. They slowly walked in, “performed” their slow movements and basically the whole crowd was stunned in silence. When they walked away all you could hear was sobbing and sniffing. What an experience. Why is this all of a sudden a big deal now? Didn't we know about this as early as the 60s? And even in 2016? Now it's a huge deal?? And the only way to save us is to drastically change our ways of life? Even if it makes cost of living to go up drastically? This could've been done steadily throughout the years.... Talk about procrastination........ This seems so last minute and fueled by fear. Especially if the World is 'supposed' to end in a decade. I am politically neutral... However I can't help but see political motives behind this. I genuinely believe the people protesting care about the planet and want what's best. I just feel like there is a lot of emotional manipulation going on. Idk this just gives me a bad gut feeling. God Bless.

we HAD the chance to "slowly change" our way of life since it became a big deal in the 70s. or you don't remember the climate protests back then when people would chain themselves to trees or bulldozers? everyone wrote them off as hippies and kept on polluting. the climate movement is not new, it's just that we've ran out of all this time. it's better we change late than never

That's ridiculous. You can have a diet with a lower carbon footprint than a vegan without being a vegan (but my just eating less meat and chose your animal products carefully). Because obviously there are vegetables with a very high carbon footprint (due to transportion, heated greenhouses and the type of vegetable) and highly processed vegan meals with a high carbon footprint. And obviously if you're a vegan, who's flying several times a year or who drives around with a gasoline car or who lives in a house with an oil heater then you can also have much higher CO2 emissions than a non-vegan. Also, we will always eat meat as long as we are this many people on the planet. Why? Because not all land is suitable for growing vegetables and with 8 to 10 billion people we can't afford to lose those calories. Especially with global warming stressing our food system even further we will probably be reliant on some animal products. Furthermore there's the aspect of fairness. Why do we have to give up things why everyone else just keeps doing whatever they want? Especially since all the CO2 emissions we are saving now can be undone by people deciding to use fossil fuels for a bit longer. So what we need aren't a couple of vegans here and there. We need the everyone to stop using fossil fuels. One country can ruin all of our efforts so we really need to focus on making sure that noone will be able to undo our efforts now.

@stauffap
@stauffap 4 жыл бұрын
What a great comment. As if anyone of us can live a live without oil in the kind of system we have now. What do you think why we are calling for changes? Because even if you are willing to make the sacrifices to live without oil you really can't do it in todays society. You can't even buy food if you want to avoid the use of oil. Of course we could set up a system that uses zero fossil fuels, but in order to do that we need to work together to build a new energy infrastructure. You know, you don't even realise that your critique is ridiculous, because you never really wanted to get informed about he subject. Those of us who truly tried to live without fossil fuels know that it's not possible. Of course people like you, who didn't try don't know that....
