I feel like y’all missed it but the conversation between Aemond & Aegon during the council meeting WAS meant to embarrass Aegon…because he can’t speak High Valyrian lol. It wasn’t Aegon just wanting war - he literally couldn’t respond back in HV because he can’t speak it fluently (which Aemond knew.) I DO think Aegon can understand it for the most part though. Aemond wanted to embarrass Aegon by demonstrating to the council their “Targaryen ruler/the eldest son” can’t even speak the language the Targaryen’s are known for.

Rhaenys chose to stay because of Rhaenyra's situation. The little support she has needs her dragons to defend them. Rhaenys knows this. She represents the queen as one of her dragonriders so she can't flee. "If the Queen flees at the first sign of trouble, why should we support her against these overwhelming odds?" Also, as Aemond said, Rook's Rest is vital since the Blacks losing it cuts Dragonstone off from Westeros. The blacks must defend it. Lastly, Meleys is the Blacks best dragon. She's the most capable of harming Vhagar. Aegon & Aemond falling would be a huge victory despite the risk. Rhaenys knew this and bravely fought.

I just realized, with the two omens. The first omen when Alicent dropped the dragon, it broke off a wing, yet it was intact. Signifying Aegon’s dragon. At the end it was still alive, barely, with Aegon TBD. The second omen is with Rhaenys. When Aegon tipped over the dragon jug, it shattered completely, signifying Rhaenys and Meleys’ death.

The sad thing about the dragons is that meleys and vhagar were daemon and Viserys parent's dragon, the dragons were very close, flied together Many time they have a bond and now they're tearing each other apart, and on top of that vhagar was her daughter dragon, and they k!lled her on her birthday

The bond between Aegon and Sunfyre is so profound. He doesn't even speak to his dragon in High Valeriyan, but Sunfyre understands. Also protecting him in Vaghars DRACARYS and from the fall.

I feel really bad for Aegon. He was an insufferable frat boy, but, he did not want to be king and even admitted that he was not fit. After they made him king they made fun of him for being bad at it and got his son killed. When he was crying over the death of his son, his mother walked away and ended up with Cole.

The dragon riders can’t just abandon the houses that are fighting for them because a scarier dragon shows up. Rhaenyra did not know Rhaenys was going to die. The look was simple concern for going into battle because of course.

I like that this show actually shows that it takes a long time to get from place to place. The passage of time is really felt. You can also see who's dragons are battle tested and who isn't. Meleys has really good strategy when fighting. Not the biggest but this claws and talons are super sharp.

Guys, Rhaenyra would NEVER have sent Rhaenys if she knew Aegon's army would send out a dragon like Vhagar to the battlefield since he usually protects Kings Landing lol. She didn't want to send Jace because he's literally inexperienced and also she didn't want to lose another son so quickly to war. She was completely confident in Rhaenys. NOBODY expected Aemond to show up, nor did they expect Aegon to show up. Losing a dragon is a MASSIVE loss for either side.

Rhaenyra didn't know the Greens would have sent a dragon. Her initial idea was to go herself. They all expect the Greens to keep their dragons at Kingslanding to protect themselves. It's why Aemond and Cole's plan is kinda ingenious. The whole attack on Rooks Rest is to lure a dragon out of Dragonstone, painting a massive target on Cole and the main Green Army. Only for Aemond and his tactical nuke of a dragon to annihilate any dragon sent by the Blacks.

Gotta say, Aegon's an asshole, but he doesn't deserve half, well maybe 40% of the treatment he received from his council and family, especially Alicent. He really was trying his best to be a good king

one of the things I've really liked is the bonds between these targaryans and their dragons. Specifically the scene of Aegon preparing with Sunfyre, like even Aegon has an otherworldly relationship with this living nuke. Really cool and gives him a little credit because at the end of the day he IS one of them.

I’m team black all the way, but I feel the most sorry for Aegon. People say he craves power when really he just wants love. The few times we see him truly happy is with his son, and now that his boy is dead we see that only his dragon Sunfyre fills that role. Alicent and the other green members act like Aegon owes them some huge favor and that he should be greatful, but he didn’t want that role, he screamed he didn’t want to be king. And now they all belittle him because he isn’t the perfect puppet. Aegon feels way too deeply and he drinks to numb himself from his front emotions. Alicent said literally the worst words to him when he asked for help. It was sad too when he just told her that he just moved the books and not had them destroyed, she really is a terrible mother.

I don’t think that rhaenys declared herself dead, but she knew that she had to biggest dragon and was the best rider, she had the best chance to take out vhagar, and also it was her mission to make sure that they didn’t take the castle.

The scenes of aemond talking in high valyrian to his brother was to show us that aegon doesn't speak it and can say just few words which means he's unfit to be a Targaryen king, and he's more of a Hightower , he doesn't Care about his Targaryen blood or history

I think Rhaenys wasn't going to leave without trying her damn hardest to kill (or at the very least severely wound) Vahagar. She knows that as long as Vahagar lives, the Blacks have no chance of winning the war against the Greens. Even if they all end up dead in the end, one house might go out "victoriously" and Rhaenys had made up her mind that it would be them. I also think that with her family separated (Corlys off to sea again, Baela at risk of being shot out of the sky at any moment, and Rhaena sent away to Pentos) there wasn't much left keeping her in Dragonstone. She fought bravely and admirably until the very end, and with all of her past years of warring behind her both she and Meleys may finally rest. ❤

Rhaenys was not going back a second time, when she turned Meleys around, they were heading back towards Dragonstone, which was across the water. That's why Aemond and Vhagar hid there.

Aegon tried to literally tried to learn from Alicent in that scene, and all she did was demean him.

25:52 At first I didn’t understand why she kept turning back but I think that’s exactly why. It was war and at that moment Rhaenys wasn’t a princess, she was a soldier. Her mission/duty was to protect the castle and do as much damage to the enemy as she could, no matter what. Plus taking Vhagar out was wayyy too important. Who knows when or if Daemon would return? Rhaenys had to keep trying right then and there. Besides, Meleys was doing extremely well in the battle. She absolutely obliterated Sunfyre and won that first 1v1 with Vhagar. She still had a fairly decent chance to do some serious damage. I think the outcome would’ve been very different if Aemond didn’t go for that sneak attack. The situation was extremely complex but I think that’s the core of it. She had to keep fighting no matter what. Rhaenys was my favorite character in the show and Meleys was my favorite dragon and the coolest looking one imo. I wish they had retreated, but I understand why they didn’t. Rip Rhaenys the queen who should have been.

calling himself King isn't exactly wrong if you look in the perspective correctly. Alicent was called Queen and Your Grance while being married to Viserys. So was Cersei and Margery in GoT.

Rhaenys had to defend Rook's Rest. It was mentioned that it was an important mainland area for Dragonstone/Team Black but I also think that she kept going to try to injure/kill Vhagar to give Team Black an advantage in the war to come. She stayed longer to confirm the kill and mission. She said it herself that her dragon has battle experience and the largest they had... but she went in knowing it was a battle to the death. I still wish they survived. Her and her dragon exchanging last looks hurt so much 😭 Fucking granny Vhagar with her sneak attacks and the plan to draw out a team black dragon worked. Theres so many things we could pick at on lack of planning and patience for both sides but the point of this fight was to show how devastating dragon war is.

Wow y'all are good, It didn't clcik in my head that the dragon imagery being destroyed was foreshadowing. The one Alicent drops symbolizes Sunfyre being wounded and the dragon glassware that Aegon knocked over symbolizes Meleys dying. I didn't catch that the first time I watched this episode! Like, I knew who was going to die this episode because I'm familiar with the source material, like as soon as they mentioned Rooks Rest, I knew, oh yeah, they're going to die here. I just didn't catch the foreshadowing in those specific scenes.

I don't think Rhaenys intended to die, she just knew that if a dragon has to go, it makes sense to be her. Rhaenyra is the Queen, Jace is her heir and Rhaenys knows that she would never risk another son. She knows that she's the best option, they wouldn't sacrifice one of the best allies and one of the biggest dragons for nothing. My guess for why Rhaenys turns around knowing she'll prob die is because she'd take even a small chance of ending the war here. She's been behind Rhaenyra's pushes for peace. She's willing to put her life on the line for a shot at killing Vhagar (her dragon did do a bit of damage after all!) or a more likely way of winning would be to kill Aemond. She takes the chance, knew it was curtains the second she sees Vhagar, but tries her best because theres just the smallest chance she can draw or at least seriously damage Vhagar for her team

No one knew about the plan (Vhagar ambush) except for Aemond and Cole, not even the council. Aegon was pushed to go because of the way Alicent has been treating him. He never wanted to be king and he Expressed it many times , he even said he's not fit to rule. Yet they dragged him and made him King without even guiding him properly nor training him to rule. So I don't really blame Aegon for feeling frustrated especially when everyone is making him feel Insignificant, they just want him to sit and do nothing while they manipulate everything... I feel bad for him

Daemon's side quest isn't that wasteful because he already knows the Riverlands are key to winning the war since the Lannisters (and Westerlands) and Hightowers (and The Reach) are on the side of the greens. Harrenhal is the largest castle so he's trying to have another stronghold. In the first episode this season Alicent thought that Aegon would kind of get over being king but since his son was killed, Aegon has been acting irrationally (in her eyes) so she is lashing out on him. The plan was always to kind of make Aegon a puppet until he got some sense but when he fired Otto that's when he got her pubes all tinged.

No, Rhaenyra did not expect Rhaenys to die. If anything she knew Rhaenys and Meleys are battle tested and if anyone was going to survive a dragon fight it would be her. That's why she actually told her son he lacked experience she was truthful with that, if he had experience, she would have let him go. She came to the conclusion that it's war or death, sparing her son from battle is not on her mind, she sent the babies away, if she wanted to spare him, she would have forced him to leave too.

Rhaenyra gotta switch out of mommy mode and be the queen. There was nothing preventing her from sending both Rhaenys and Jace; Daemon said in episode 1 that one dragon is not enough for Vhagar. It's war time now, you don't have enough dragonriders to keep people sidelined because they "lack experience."

I didn't think I would feel pity for Aegon in this, but I do. Aemond's use of High Valarian during the council meeting showed that Aegon's understanding of the language is basic at best, it is clear that he didn't study it as well as his brother, just like he didn't learn many things, and then to have Alicent basically tell him he was taught just enough to be her, the council's and Otto's puppet, it was no wonder that he lashed out so foolishly.

Rhaenys put up a good fight she didn't want to go back home because she knew there would be a slim chance she could've beat Aemond and Vhagar and take out the greens wincon and she was willing to take that risk for it but I'm 100% certain if Meleys and Vhagar had continued to 1 v 1 head on Meleys would've won, the fact that she use her speed to fly under Vhagar then got caught, clawed her up, then manage to take Vhagar the second biggest dragon to the ground with her then manage to fly back up was very impressive,Vhagar only won due to cheap shot tactics by Aemond going behind the mountain and waiting.
