Outside of Redoubts 9 and 10, little is known about the “other” redoubts of the Yorktown Battlefield. In this episode, we will pay a quick visit to the famous redoubts 9 and 10 and explore the very grounds where these famous attacks took place. We will also walk in the very footsteps of Alexander Hamilton as he led his men against redoubt 10. Then we will visit some lesser known sites that saw some pretty heavy fighting in and around the Yorktown Battlefield and even see earthworks that have remained untouched since 1781!

I was just there last week and we did all of the camp locations, except we were short on time, so we skipped the untouched redoubt. Later I heard it was worth seeing so thank you for completing that part of my trip!

Great content and information! I have really enjoyed all of your two dozen videos. Keep up the great work. Your love of history and your enthusiasm is very evident. The only negative is not against you but the condition of many of the wooden signs in this video that need serious replacement. The worst case was at the 11:18 mark on the "French Trench". Hopefully the National Park Service will get to replace all of these signs with a more hardy material.

I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying the content! Means a ton to me. Yeah, I agree. Some of signs were in rough shape. Not sure how the parks allocate funds to fix certain things or if there is even money available. Thanks for watching!

As a former Royal Welch Fusilier I thank you for this, really interesting. Have you seen the video about the RWF museum inside Caernarfon castle in North Wales.

I speak for all Redoubts that our kind demand to be more properly groomed by the Park Service so the public may see our magnificent cheavux de frise.

Yeah, some areas definitely needed some TLC and needed to be mowed.

I remember visiting as a kid and remembering that they were in much better shape. I’m hoping we just caught the park on a bad day.

I guess my question is - what are we looking at when visiting the so-called Redoubt #10? It is obviously now in the river and and surrounded by water. The markers seem to not be the actual redoubt location, but a facsimile fashioned years later to represent the redoubt. When was the actual location lost to the river erosion? Are there old photos showing its actual location before it was lost?

To my knowledge there are no photos but I could be wrong. I haven’t seen any. I would assume we are looking at a reconstructed portion to offer a visual.
