The Batman Arkham series supposedly ended with Batman Arkham Knight. However, this was not always meant to be the case. WB Games has a long and complicated history of potential games, rejected and cancelled projects that never saw the light of day. There are several Batman games and even Superman games that never came out because they were either discarded, replaced, or deemed a bad idea. Rocksteady games is also no stranger to cancelling projects and both they and WB Games Montreal have a ton of cancelled superhero games that we will likely never see much of. Recently, I decided to go back through the Batman Arkham timeline of cancelled games and break down what happened to the Batman Beyond Arkham game. This game has gone by several names, including Batman Arkham Legacy, Project Sabbath and even, sometimes, Batman Arkham Insurgency. This game would have starred both Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne, the son of Bruce and Talia, and would have taken place in the future of Gotham City. Characters such as Dick Grayson, Black Mask and Two Face were all set to appear and this was the Batman game that is often mentioned to have had the Nemesis System. Many people still believe Gotham Knights will have the Nemesis System because of the reports and rumors around previously cancelled games, but that game and Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League will both have their own systems in play that are different. These rumors and reports span many years and paint a picture of many games that never saw the light of day. #batman #arkham #batmanbeyond

Hey all I wanted to mention that there was an additional source that got mixed up. The Jason Schreier story was actually originally broken by Byte-Size Impressions over on their site first. Then it was re-reported on by others including Schreier.

It'd be interesting to see how Bruce beat his Joker psychosis problem with Joker infecting his mind. Did Bruce ever find a cure? Part of his whole Shtick was that Bruce was fighting the Knight and saving Gotham one last time as his final mission before he locked himself away until a treatment could cure his Joker infection. Does anyone know if Rocksteady ever released something about any story after the game were Bruce either did or didn't cure his Joker infected blood? Faking his own death does sound like a Bruce thing to do and most Batfans probably already figured neither Bruce or Alfred died in the Manor explosion. Bruce had to hide himself away to keep himself from basically breaking the world. The Joker with a body and mind like Bruce's? That'd make him an unstoppable force that Superman himself would have troubles beating.

I agree. I was making a fan fic and was thinking about Arkham Legacy, but it would have nothing about Arkham and it's legacy, so Beyond Arkham is way better

And as beyond you could justify Terry bieng knocked out and the suit is controlled by batman in tje cave , to facilitate a classic "batman bye bye " to the last checkpoint , like instead of tje thug that downs you mocking you it's batman telling you about the thug ,forming a profile for the nemesis system , and maybe add. What if the suicide squad game sets up Batman beyond bc the justice league goes rogue except a few people maybe Batman is retired and helps them but can’t be Batman anymore and then they can have terry be the new Batman or they had the batmobile in the trailer maybe terry is a fan of batman and helps the squad and then becomes batman or sumthing

I’ve always wanted a proper Batman Beyond game from Rocksteady. It seems so perfect for them and a natural follow-up if they wanna make another Batman game. Neo-Gotham, doesn’t have to be an origin story for Terry and maybe picks up a couple of years into his Batman career. Bring back Will Freddle and Kevin Conroy. Traversal would be insane with the flying/gliding and even the batmobile if they wanted to. Would make for an amazing experience and a dream come true to see Batman Beyond continued in some way.

The series had perfect closure. BUT i still want at least one more game. These games were just way too good. And the emotions and feelings I had during my first play throughs are something that I will probably never feel again

I honestly thought thats what they were going for to begin with.....considering that there is a big portion of Gotham city that is under construction and looks vastly more futuristic in design compared to the rest of the city.

7:19 the judge name originates from my personal favorite btas episode known as judgement day. The episode shows a new vigilante who wears a judge suit attempting to murder criminals and is eventually taken on by Batman and in the end is revealed to be two face. Harvey created a third personality to do good to make up for his crimes except the dark thing about it is that Harvey and big bad harv don’t actually know that they’re the judge. It does a great job at concluding two faces arc in a sad but amazing way. When ever I see an accuser character type in dc media I always think back to the judge.

The Damian Wayne game would have been amazing! I remember bits of details that leaked about it and it sounded awesome! Plus the concept art was really fascinating and intriguing! I truly wish we could’ve gotten this game, but I’m hyped for Gotham Knights now!

@Bing Boom Pow I understand people wanting Terry and I like him too. But it is pretty clear DC is pushing Damian too be the heir and to be the Terry of the Batman future. If they ever decide to pull the trigger and have Bruce no longer be Batman then I think Damian will end up the next Batman just like Jon Kent.

A Batman Beyond type game is infinitely more interesting than Suicide Squad or Gotham Knights, but I’ll still play them. It’s never too late to do such a game though, especially since the Arkhamverse is still alive. I have no idea why Warner wouldn’t make such a thing ASAP.

Pretty sure the Arkham series is over, but if they decide to reboot it would be cool to be able to fly the Batwing (but don't make every other mission a Batwing mission like they did with the Batmobile)

Honestly doesn't need another Batman game. Hope Rocksteady gonna make Superman game next and overall other heroes gonna get a chance to have there own games. Batman had 4 (without countinng Telltale games and VR) and Arkham Knight still looks amazing dispite being relesed 5 years ago. Its time for WB games to deliver smn for fans of other heroes

The batmobile made the game unfinishable for me. So many shoehorned padded maze sections n superv clunky. Wish they had removed it, or made it optional. Now a real beyond flying batsuit would have made a bigger gotham way cooler

I remember a few years ago when wb Montreal revealed a Dev vid or something like that and you could see an early build of batman game as you could see on a computer a model of batman crouching in front of some cars and the tab logo was Arkham asylums so it might of been an early build of one of these rumoured games

I’m dying for a Batman game to where we actually get to leave Arkham, and venture into other cities. Imagine a story line where Superman is killed, and Batman has to venture out into Metropolis to find out who killed him. And since the death of Supes his city has become like Gotham.

I am actually kinda glad that the Damien game didn’t happen just the ideas they had for it didn’t sound that interesting, although the Batman beyond game did look pretty cool so I wish they did that at least. I still want a Superman game I just want metropolis to have bigger buildings than what they showed in the concept art but other than that I don’t have much to say besides this video was very well put together! sick video man I did hear about some of the games you talked about. as soon as I saw the title for this video I clicked instantly

Batman Arkham Beyond The story is based on a young Terry McGuiness who has just left college and found his father got killed by criminals so he wanted to find a way of getting them criminals, he went to the old Wayne mansion and went through the hole where the door was he went through the halls to find the old lounge area, accidentally opened the clock opening to the batcave to see old Bruce Wayne, he says "who are you, how did you get in, unless you came for help, I'll help you on one condition you be the new Batman."

I just don't see how you can make a game around those characters, like how do you make compelling game play ? 🤔 like dose the flash need to eat constantly ? Dose super mam have a time limit to remove monsters from the city to limit destruction? And how do you justify any danger ? To characters that can move so fast ? 29:38 there’s a gaming journalist, Gabe Galini (I think I spelled it right), who has been the main scooper of the game since 2015. He’s the one who gave slcmof and Bytesize Impressions the leaks that were described then and released today. He did mention in an old video that he’d seen a vertical slice of the game, like a rough demo, and that it was pretty far into development so this game is just sitting in a file in cold storage. There’s even concept art he mentioned that we still haven’t seen such as the Talon, Mr Freeze, Katana and Monarch Theater.

Going back to this video after Gotham Knights released, it is kinda sad we didn't get the AK sequel. I remember back in 2018-2019 Slcmof uploaded videos on this Arkham game and described every piece of concept art that was leaked in 2020, from the run down Gotham to the batbike to the new batsuit to the character art, so he had a source he was talking to but, for obvious reasons, he never showed the art accept for a one of these videos's thumbnails. He even talked about other leaked details such as the inclusion (or consideration of) the nemesis system from Monolith's Mordor games. Also, the leakered saying WB can be kinda scary, lmao foreshadowing to the last couple of years.

I would love to have a Batman Beyond game, taking place decades after the events of Arkham Knight. Having them going into the aftermath of Batman’s identity reveal and the consequences of the Knightfall Protocol, and how the villains would react. As I recall, the Batman Beyond animated to show went in depth on how Jason Todd was infected by the Joker Toxin and wound up becoming the Next Gen Joker.

I think it would have been cool patrolling Neo-Gotham and taking down gangs like the Jokerz, Splicers, T's and KOBRA cells before having to go to Neo-Arkham to stop a riot/breakout orchestrated by a new enemy, who is revealed before the final boss fight to be Damian al Ghul, who took over the League of Assassins after being disowned by Bruce.

Jesse man slc talked about leaks a lot, even had a reliable leaker on stream once, and when the leaker talked about the game pretty much the entire arkham community threw a bitch fit. So some people, unfairly, blame slcmof still.

I really want them to make a prequal trilogy starting with origins. Having roger craig smith return voice of batman...i dont know since his version of batman is more brutal and violent you could call it batman arkham vengence? Just a thought but i think that would be awesome

It's sad we won't get another, but the four we got are fine &, despite going overboard with DLC, Arkham Knight is my favorite PS4 game that I've finished so far, so they definitely went out on a high note. I enjoyed the other three, but none of them even cracked my top 5 PS3 games.

Its funny how Rocksteady's initial goal was to push Batman as a Symbol for Arkham/Gotham & a character ive come to appreciate over the years since keaton, bale and Now Affleck! I still often ask this why did They only make 2 amazing storylines for Arkham Asylum & Arkham City go to huge lengths to tell a Great story Great character development for Joker and Batman a long Rivalry that Conroy and Hamill both knocked out of the park and WB Montreal Improve upon with [The Matter of Family DLC] which It might be short but The level design is on point to then make Knight an Afterthought!

Damien Wayne or Terry McGinnis in my opinion there is no doubt in my mind That would have been a Excellent Sequel just ideas not just for them Releasing a NEW Arkham game but A Reason for me to want to Revisit the Original stories where it all began. Return to Arkham ruined that It would have been Much better Had it been a Trilogy and Origins just a Remaster!

In Arkham city taila says “you didn’t need to get arrest to see me Bruce after that night of what happen in metropolis you could’ve just called.” Means Damian Wayne is hinted to exist Arkhamverse and could’ve been the Arkham knight or the main villain.

They have to make a reboot of the series that actually makes sense. Game one would be a spin on Arkham origins where it started when Bruce was a child and seeing his parent shot as a prologue and the game starts when Bruce starts development on the suit and starts fighting crime. There would be villains like scarecrow and penguin and even the intro to joker and two face. No characters die but it opens the rest of the series. Game two is pretty much asylum with more villains and a tease to ra Al ghul and him escaping a prison. Game three is city where joker, strange, ghul and deathstroke are major villains. Joker does die as well as strange and even other villains that could be a side story. Game four is a spin on knight where again Jason is the villain that pairs up with crane and slade but the game isn’t focused around the Arkham knight and Jason would be a side story like an investigation where black mask dies and Bruce investigates deaths and the thought goes through Bruce and that the end of the story is red hood showing up and fighting Bruce revealing red hoods identity and Jason vanishes. Game five would start a year after knight where Bruce is still on the hunt for Jason and goes to ra Al ghul but gets controlled by talia after he gets his answers. The romance in the beginning of the game sets a future for Damian Wayne. And from there red hood is the main villain killing a lot of Batman’s villains. From here the games make sense chronologically and it makes the new rebooted series more lengthy. This series can lead into a Superman game and the intro of the justice league in the Arkham series. And from there a final game which could be a new series from the new rebooted Arkham series where the justice league go and take down league villains or even teen titans games and more. If they done it right to begin with maybe the series could go on and have one big explosive end with darkseid.
